During the Finale Battle, Saturday Afternoon
A bunch of loaders swarmed in front of the Jack double, obscuring him from view. They stomped forward towards the team on their metal feet, priming their weapons and chattering in their electronic voices.
"First Law disabled. Combat commencing."
Best do something, team.

"First Law disabled. Combat commencing."
Best do something, team.
Cade | Cade sighted on the closest loader, aimed for its head and fired, just to see what kind of damage a souped-up blaster from his galaxy did on these guys. |
Loader | Had he ever heard electronic sputtering before? Because that was what the sound the loader made resembled most closely. It staggered back for about half a step, then focused its attention on Cade. "Bandit detected." Unsurprisingly, that was followed by an assault rifle shot from its arm gun. |
Cade | "Starting to remember the appeal of lightsabers," Cade muttered to himself, dodging behind a chair and hoping that Fandom made them bullet proof as he reached for a gun he'd pulled from the machine. |
Loader | Maybe not entirely bullet proof, but they did absorb some of the damage! Which was good because the loader fired at him again. They were single-minded like that. |
Cade | "Echuta," Cade said, moving so they couldn't get a lock on his position, "why don't you die already?" He aimed at its head this time. |
Loader | Well, what passed for a head on it, anyway. The bit with the eye! Which went out this time, so now it was firing blindly. "Requesting repairs." |
Cade | Cade aimed for the back of its knees and fired. "Reminds me of those ancient droids during the karking Clone Wars," he griped. |
Loader | The loader fell over. So now it was blind and couldn't move, although it could still shoot. Just without any precision. "Medic. Medic. Medic." |
Cade | Cade made sure no on was watching, then reached into the Force and yanked the weapon from its hand and out of the way. There. Problem solved. |
Loader | Considering that weapon wasn't even really in its hand as it was a part of its arm? "Unit destroyed." Problem very much solved. |
Jim | Jim really wished he'd picked a bigger gun at this point. Something small seemed like a good idea especially since it seemed like the Jack guy was out in the open but noooooooooope. He used the gun he had and started shooting while he moved, not wanting to be a stationary target. |
Loader | That was okay! "Moving to engage." The loaders could stomp after him! Which was what this one was doing, while raising its arm and priming its weapon. |
Jim | Well. Jim really hadn't thought it would stay still and just take potshots but he'd hoped! As soon as he saw that weapon being primed, he knew he was going to be dead if he let that hit him and he didn't want to die, temporary or not. So, he moved quick. Sure, the thing could move but he thought he was faster. And he had stupid plan but a plan nonetheless. He started circling around the thing, shooting as he moved. |
Loader | He was faster than the loader, this was true. They were heavy and a little clunky, and weren't built for quick moves. They generally made up for that with their fire power, but it was hard to hit him when he was moving like that. "Target in sights," it kept claiming, anyway. It took damage from Jim's shots, but nothing critical, not yet. It was clunky but sturdy too. |
Jim | "Not for long," Jim muttered, moving and ducking and weaving all along the dig area. He kept taking potshots at the loader, not really trying to do anything but damage it. He was just getting himself in position to put his stupid plan in motion and take this thing down. |
Loader | "Repairs wanted." So at least the loader was taking damage from his shots, even if it wasn't critical. Even a little bit of damage, bit by bit, was good. And it wasn't getting a good lock on him, no matter how much it tried. |
Jim | The robot was a total confidence booster, letting him know he needed repairs! Just what Jim wanted to hear! So, he kept shooting and then he took one more lap around the robot, trying to get him turned around just slightly. He was inching precariously closer on each movement too. |
Loader | The loader turned about the way he'd expected it to. Fast movement? Still not a thing. "Error. Error." Yeah, and that too. |
Jim | "Excellent!" And that was just what Jim wanted to hear because he charged directly at the damn robot now, gun held up. He stuck the gun right against that red light and fired off several shots from close range. |
Loader | "Injuries fatal." That was such a perfect critical hit that there wasn't much left for the loader to do except to fall over. "Mission... failed." Very much so. |
Jim | "Yeah!" Jim threw his gun up in triumph but didn't do that too long. He kicked the robot, proud that he'd done that without getting hurt, before he ran off to help anyone else that might need it. "I win!" That was thrown over his shoulder as he dashed into the mayhem. |
Kitty | Really? Robots? Well, this was going to be the easiest thing to ever easy... Staying nice and phased, Kitty whistled loudly to catch the attention of one, because why not make it fun? |
Loader | Loaders had no concept of fun. And even if they had, it would've probably differed from Kitty's a great deal. But, they did react to sound, which was why this one turned and began to head straight for Kitty. "Bandit detected. Removing bandit." It did not wait to fire a few shots at her. |
Kitty | And those shots went right through her and hit the ground, because phasing was awesome. Of course, she also didn't want stray shots hitting anyone else, which is why she just started running towards it. |
Kitty | And the loader kept shooting at her, now continuously. It did not possess human emotions, and could therefore not feel surprise at the bullets moving through her, nor terror at her running towards it. Probably for the best. |
Kitty | And thus Kitty sort of leaped right through it, so if there were any electronic parts in that spot, they'd be frying pretty good right now. This would have been cooler as a Fastball Special, true. |
Loader | And that would have been the single most confusing thing in the loader's life, had it had the concept of 'life' in its files in the first place, at least anything other than 'something to end'. Except all its critical functions were fried after that, so it just fell over like the piece of electronic scrap it now was. |
Kitty | That was pretty satisfying, actually. Kitty pulled herself into a standing position again and looked to find someone who needed help. Or more robots to fry. |
Alex | Alex spotted a loader (they were hard to miss!) and immediately began firing her weapon, hoping to do some damage to the thing. She had good aim. Usually. |
Loader | Some damage, sure. But enough to make it stop, especially now that it had spotted her and was priming its guns for her, specifically? Not really, not yet. "Combat commencing." |
Alex | "That's not good," Alex stated as she dove behind a tree, suddenly very thankful for the convenient wooded area. She fired her weapon from behind her current shield before reaching for one of her throwing knives. She could always find a use for those. |
Loader | There were definitely good targets for those! Like the big red eye, or any of the robot's joints. The single shot slowed it down for a step or two, but not for long. "Increasing aggression." It fired shots at the tree. |
Alex | That big red eye was exactly Alex's target. She tossed the knife in that direction, hoping it reached its destination or at least distract the loader enough so she could make her next move. |
Loader | The loader wasn't really made for fast movements. So while it detected the knife, it did so roughly ten seconds before said knife hit its eye and blinded it. "Repairs needed." Didn't stop it from shooting, but at least it didn't know where she was now. |
Alex | "Gotcha," Alex remarked as she watched the knife hit its target. Now that it was blinded, she took that opportunity to jump out from behind the tree, aiming her gun right at the shoulders. |
Loader | Sparks flew from the loader's shoulder as the bullet hit, making that arm useless to it. "Injuries critical." And about to get more critical, no doubt. |
Alex | "And about to get worse," Alex replied, agreeing with the narrative. With that said, she fired at the other shoulder. |
Loader | That was just no good. For the loader, that was. More sparks flew. "Critical damage sustained," it croaked in its electronic voice. "Unit destroyed." And that was that. |
Alex | "That's right!" Alex said, completely satisfied with her work here. Look, this was her first real fight. She couldn't help feeling a little proud. It didn't last long, though, as she jumped back into action. |
Jono | Oh, robotic body armour, you say? Jono gave a little grin at that. Yeah, he had this one all figured out, creating a glowing blue matching suit of his own. The joy of slowly working his way back up to being able to create hard-light objects with his collar again. "You want to dance? Let's dance, you and I." His battery pack wasn't going to last long. But that was fine. He'd make this quick. |
Loader | Loaders? Not so much with the robotic body armor. More so with the being robots themselves. Not that the distinction mattered to them. That would've required more thought that had been programmed to them. "Increasing aggression." ... So the loader that now had Jono in its sights and was starting to shoot at him didn't have a very quippy retort to give. |
Jono | "Ah." Jono furrowed his brow as the bullets pinged off of the shield at the front of his construct armor, gritting his teeth as he made his way closer to the machine. "Nobody home in there, then? Good. Means I can rip you apart without feeling bad about it later." Yes, that was a legitimate concern, even with all that was going on. Go figure. He stomped right up to the loader, gave it a grin, hauled his arm back, and threw a punch. There was no actual matter between his fist and the machine, no, but it was remarkable the capabilities of his hard-light tech. There might as well have been a mech throwing that punch, instead of a big blue man standing in the middle of a fairly impressive light show. |
Loader | The loader stumbled back with the punch, as much as it could be called stumbling. Its limbs weren't quite flexible enough for that, so it mostly just dug its metallic feet further into the earth. "Repairs needed," It said. But also: "Deleting." It was not very smart so yes, it was going to keep firing shots at Jono. |
Jono | "You think so?" It was sure as hell not going to delete him. Ignoring the bullets (his shielding had kept worse from hitting him in the past), he took a moment to look the loader over, nodded to himself, and then reached one hand for the barrel of the machine's gun and twisted. He was going to just grit his teeth and ignore the sound of groaning metal as he did so. Maybe the sound of another punch would drown that out some. |
Loader | "Requesting repairs. Medic. Requesting repairs. Medic." Apparently the loader found all this quite alarming! And also damaging. Since that gun was directly connected to its arm. This was probably not going end well for it. |
Jono | No, most likely not. But it was sounding fairly good to Jono, who, upon letting go of that mangled gun, grinned, raised both of his arms, and brought his hard-light elbows down, hard, on what looked most like the loader's shoulders. He'd almost be inclined to feel sorry for the thing, if it wasn't trying to kill him, and all. And he could keep this up until his batteries died, which gave him a couple more minutes to just beat this machine to a pulp. |
Loader | Those were indeed the loader's shoulders. And these were the loader's arms coming off at the impact. It wasn't really made take a beating, especially without repair surveyors around. "Malfunction." The red light that marked the loader's eye went out. |
Jono | And not a moment too soon. A couple of seconds later, both Jono's batteries and his voice gave out, and with a blue flicker, his construct disappeared, and he went toppling to the ground. .... He'd seen more graceful victories in his lifetime. |
