Pixie Dust, Monday, Jan. 5

It could be January outside all it wanted to, as far as Romeo was concerned. He was still going to put a more welcoming display in the store window. So it was all bikinis and shorts and designer sundresses there, and he'd relegated sweaters and other winter clothes to neat bins and tables at the side of the store.

He adjusted a bathing suit strap and admired his work before retreating to the counter to make a sign.

That in place, he was back at the counter, realizing with some pride that today marked a full year for him in Fandom.

Yurika regarded the new window display with amusement as she came in, carrying a bag with sandwiches and cookies.

"Wishful thinking, koibito?" she teased, coming up to the counter. "The ocean is a bit cold, this time of year."

"That's why people go on cruises," he argued, with a grin that lit up his face as he leaned over the counter to kiss her hello. "And ohaiyo, Yurika."

"Cruises? My, someone has high hopes!" she laughed, leaning over the counter for her kiss. "Cruising around the indoor pool on a floatie, maybe, but you're a bit late if you wanted to take a winter break vacation."

"We went to Verona!" Romeo argued with a laugh. "That might be more duty than vacation, true, but would you really have wanted to travel beyond that?"

He didn't give her a chance to answer before letting his lips touch hers.

Yurika let herself throughly enjoy the kiss, returning it for perhaps a bit longer than was entirely appropriate with the store being open.

"No, Verona was enough, but you should have put the swimsuits out before we left. I might have treated myself to a new one," she teased, pulling away and setting the bag between them. "Now what excuse can I use to model them for you?"

"We do have spring break coming up," Romeo said hopefully. "Though there's no way this one can better Mexico, unless we go back to the same place."

He started poking at the bag to see what was inside.

She had brought ~~moddable~~ soup and sandwiches from some place in town. Enough for both of them to share.

"Thinking about Spring Break already? Have you even had a single class yet?" Yurika laughed. "I don't have one until tomorrow, I like having Mondays off." It let her sleep in, and come visit him at work, which was fantastic.

"Not until management tomorrow," Romeo said, selecting a chicken salad sandwich and taking a delicate bite. "Is it ever too early to think about vacation, though?"

Yurika eyed him warily. "How do we keep getting classes together? Are you sneaking peeks at my schedule notebook?" she asked, sticking out her tongue at him as she grabbed the roast beef out of the bag.

"But no, it's never too early to think about vacation. Unless it's just going to depress you when you realize how long you have to wait for it."

"Call it a happy coincidence. And I almost would the wait were longer," Romeo admitted. "Since the break is halfway to graduation, and after graduation we've only got the summer, and ..." he trailed off, staring at his sandwich. He didn't mean to be depressing, but this subject made it far too easy.

Yurika raised an eyebrow and flicked part of her sandwich crust at him. "Stop that," she said sharply. "It is Monday, we have lunch, and you are not allowed to loose your appetite after I walked across town to get us food."

Romeo took a dutiful bite of his sandwich, though it was dry in his throat. "All right," he agreed. "So why are you in management? I know your father won't be impressed."

Mostly because nothing Yurika did would impress him.

Yurika did her best to hide the flash of hurt his words caused. There was no reason for him to throw her father into this.

"Maybe I'm doing it for myself," she said, tossing her hair back over her shoulder. "Maybe I want to prove to myself that he's wrong. Is that a problem?"

"Peace, love, you just surprised me," Romeo said, holding his hands up in surrender. He hadn't meant to hurt her. "Is that a problem?"

"No problem," she said smoothly, reaching for another bite of her sandwich. "I don't understand why you're so surprised. It's no different from me taking cooking or hunting class."

"Because I've never heard you mention any interest in business or management," Romeo answered, an edge of agitation in his voice. "But you're right, it's just another class. I shouldn't see it as anything more."

Dōjima gave him a dazzling smile. "You, of all people, should know I am very sneaky. There's more to me than meets the eye!"

"That," Romeo told her, with a smile of his own, "I definitely knew."

His eyes were still wary, though. "I didn't mean to hurt you, if I did."

She shrugged dismissively. "I don't do everything to try and win my father's approval, you know," she said, only a touch of defensiveness coloring her tone.

Only, you know, almost everything.

"Sometimes a girl just wants to try different things for herself, ne?"

"I know, and you should do it for you," he said, in a soothing tone he hoped didn't jump over the line to unctuous. "However the class is, we'll be in it together, and that will be nice even if unplanned."

"You can walk me home from class," she announced, ignoring his tone. She didn't need to be soothed, dammit. "It'll keep me from wandering off and getting in too much trouble."

"Ah, yes, I must make sure to guard you closely so you do not stray into some hazard," Romeo told her.

"You never know! I might go into the sushi place, and never come out again!"

"But then I would wither and die from missing you!"

"Then that's a good incentive to keep me from wandering off, isn't it?" she teased, scooting a bit closer to try and catch a surprise kiss. "Put a little necklace with a bell on me, so you can find me whenever I stray."

"I could give you a watch with GPS in it," Romeo suggested, letting her kiss him quickly. "Though that would be less romantic."

"Much less romantic," she agreed, "and it would take all the fun out of it next time Rikku and I run away to go shopping, and start sending you pictures."

"It's been too long since you did that," Romeo pouted.

"I didn't realize there was interest in another adventure," she replied, smirking at him. "Maybe I'll have to go find her sometime this week, and see what her schedule is like."

Romeo tried to steal another, deeper kiss before answering. "Love, anytime you want to go try on scanties and send me photos, you have my permission," he said. "And you should! I've not seen either of them in far too long."

She looked at him for a long moment before taking a big bite of her sandwich and grabbing her purse to head off into the store.

"Haaaaaaai," she called back, flipping though the racks until she found what she wanted and went into the dressing room. "We should all go out sometime!"

Romeo wasn't sure what she meant until his phone buzzed, and then -- well. He wasn't crazy about the little drape of fabric on the front of the cups, but he could not complain about the contents, and it took him a second to find his voice.

"I think you might need company to check the fit on that," he answered, pitching his voice so she'd hear him in the dressing room. "Or perhaps you'd like to see a different color."

"I don't think the roses are really me," she sighed. "What else do you have that's cute?"

She grinned and leaned against the wall as she waited to see what he'd do. "So, what do you want to do? Should the four of us go dancing? Out to the bar? Karaoke? A movie?"

Romeo gathered a handful of colorful bras as he spoke, barely glancing beyond noting the size as he took them off the rack. "Do you think we could get Reno drunk enough to sing about shooting a man in him just to watch him die?" he asked. "If we can, I vote karaoke."

Then he tapped lightly on the door of her fitting room. "May I show you a few other things?"

"Of course." Yurika cracked the door slightly and extended her hand. "It's Reno. Pretty sure he'd find it funny sober, too, but it might take a drink or two to make him actually sing."

"We have to hear him sing, sometime. I think Rikku likes to," Romeo answered, tracing a finger along the extended palm.

He then kissed each fingertip.

"I've done karaoke with Rikku before," she giggled, peeking though the door at him as he kissed his fingers. "You should have heard us. We sang about kissing girls, short skirts, and all sorts of fun things."

She reached out to tangle her fingers in his shirt, giggling a bit more as she opened the door just enough to tug him into the dressing room.

After all, she needed someone to help her check the fit.

The original info post for Pixie Dust is here, and not much has changed other than that there's a sad lack of pixie bitchiness in the store now. Oh, and Romeo's probably easier to get a job from than Tink was.
