Guilty as Charged - 9/5 - Early Afternoon

Feeling better than she had in a while, Haley was wide awake, only slightly bruised and achy from her excruciating workout yesterday, and moving things around to make room for the new inventory.

On the stereo, there was a slight change of pace as Haley opted for Outkast over her usual classic rock stuff. It had been a while since she had listened to them, but they were still on her iPod and she could still shake it like a Polaroid picture.

Of course, she just looked a little dorky doing it.

For all your bike and skate needs!

The music's loud and she's shaking her groove thing and moving things around, but she still completely botherable.

The dorky dancing woman caught Jim's attention pretty much as soon as he walked into the store. If nothing else, it helped make the place seem like a fun place to buy a bike.

"Excuse me?" he said, hoping to get Haley's attention.

"Yup?" Although a bit surprised by the man, Haley dropped the box she had in her hands and shimmied over shamelessly. She was actually kind of a good dancer; it was just the setting of the shop and that fact that she was alone which made it look dorky.

"Something I can help you with?"

"I'd hope so," Jim said. "I was thinking about buying a bike. I don't have to dance to get one, do I?"

"You don't have to, but I know I can't help myself with an Outkast beat." Haley replied. "It's made to move to. Plus, it's healthy to shake your groove thing every now and then." Yeah, that was her reason and she was sticking to it.

"What kind of bike are you looking for though?"

Jim decided to join in with the dancing. His dancing was probably genuinely dorky, but at least he owned it without any shame. "Just something simple to ride around town. You know, for exercise when I'm not dancing."

"So, old fashioned, nothing fancy." Haley repeated with a nod. "How do you feel about speed?" She liked speed; she liked it a lot. Speed, durability, maneuvering possibilities...it was all why she was consistently upgrading her bike.

"Speed's good. You never know when somebody might pull up and want to race," Jim said. "Actually, I just made a good point. Is that going to happen much around here?"

"All the time if I catch you. Purple Haze and I are seriously competitive, and geared up to the max." Haley teased.

"In that case, definitely, let's go for speed," Jim said. "I just have one question."

"I have one answer?" Haley replied.

"You really named your bike?" Jim asked, grinning.

"Of course. I don't really get to name much else aside from bikes. Plus, the names fit and are much easier than going with the defacto company name and model numbers." Haley reasoned. "You're not going to name yours?"

"Well, after that I guess I have to," Jim admitted. "I think I'll name it Dwight."

"Well, you know, it's no Purple Haze, but..." Haley said with a grin. "To each their own."

"I think I've got something for you." She added a moment later as she started towards the bike section of the shop. "I just have one question now. That being: what's your favorite color?"

"What you do if I just gave a color that you couldn't possibly have in stock?" Jim asked, already trying to think of difficult colors.

"I'd spray paint it that color and take great joy in the process." Haley replied. "Or just persuade you towards another color with my amazing persuasiveness. It couldn't be that hard."

"It's really not. I'm already persuaded by the good answer," Jim said. "Let's just go with blue."

Haley laughed a bit at that before going to pick a bike off the rack. It was blue, simple yet fast, and very durable from the reviews she'd seen in Bicycle Quarterly. Jim looked at the bike as if he was thinking very deeply about the selection. "Yeah, I think it'll do. Do you think it stands any chance against Purple Haze in a race?"

"Well, not to sound cheesy or anything, but a race is more about the rider than the bike itself. With you, the bike should be able to cover some serious ground. I don't know if you'll win," Haley said with another teasing smirk. "but you'll be able to cover some ground."

"As long as I can make it interesting," Jim said. "I'll take it."

"Good." She said as she kicked up the stand and rolled it up to the front to unlock the security thing around it and ring it up.

"I prefer BMX bikes myself, but that's just 'cause I like doing things I shouldn't do on them." Like destroying houses and getting arrested for it.

"Oh, yeah. I built a small ramp in my driveway when I was twelve. I was able to get, like, six inches off the ground with that thing, so I know exactly what you're talking about," Jim joked. "I thought about raising it up a little higher, but, you know, there are limits. And that's when I realized that BMX probably wasn't for me."

"Yeah, I think I would attribute about a quarter of my arrests to trespassing or damage to property because I wasn't into those limits." Haley replied with a smirk as she worked to find the right key to get the lock off. "Luckily, orange is a good color on me." Not that she ever really had to wear the whole jumpsuit.

"You know, that's not really the first thing I thought of when you said talked about things you shouldn't do," Jim mused.

"I know; I look innocent, don't I?" Haley said with her best look of innocence. Of course, it was always more believable when she was in a leotard, doing finger flicking moves.

Major, why are you so mean to me?
