Luke's Diner, 9/13 (Monday)
Lacey had been nattering on to the staff for a while now about a hundred little initiatives they could all take to be more environmentally conscious around the diner: CFL lightbulbs, more ecofriendly soaps and cleaning supplies, installing timers on the lighting, being careful about how often they opened the fridge, yadda yadda yadda.
She'd ordered the soaps and cleaning supplies over the weekend, come in this morning with a bag of CFL lightbulbs to tackle the kitchen and supply room lighting installations, and -- discovered that the walls had somehow sprouted wall planters of spinach and broccoli overnight.
"Boy, when I said I wanted to go green, this isn't exactly what I had in mind."
Luke's is not a greenhouse, but it's open.

Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Not pronounced like that, for one.
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Er, well. Yes.
"Gremolata," she replied, pronouncing it correctly. (She thought she was being tactful about that, but.) "It's chopped parsley, lemon zest, and garlic, and hazelnut in this case. I toss it with the pasta instead of pouring sauce over it. Did you want to try that?"

Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
How tragic was it that a fourteen-year-old wrinkling up her nose could put that much of a dent in Lacey's sense of accomplishment over that dish?
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Susan was very much a meat, potatoes, vegetables, more potatoes, six kinds of a pie cook.
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
But anyway! She was usually opposed to the idea of free samples, but never having Italian food was something of a crime, as far as she was concerned.
"Aww, of course you can try it," Lacey exclaimed, ducking into the kitchen for a moment and returning with a fork and a little plastic cup with about three bites' worth of the penne. "I'm not going to have to explain where Italy is to you, am I?"

"Wow," Angua found herself trying to even blink the green out of her eyes as she sat down. Then she turned a very serious look toward her friend. "Lacey. Let me see your thumbs."
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
. . . it did smell green, right?
"But it is kind of neat. I don't know . . ."
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
But Lacey's thumbs, however, were almost entirely green free, thus validating her frantic claim.
"It's definitely a different look for the place," Angua admitted, giving a doubtful glance around.
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
*dramatic sob*"It is, isn't it? Maybe I could have a skylight put in, keep up the planters," Lacey mused, tapping a finger (also slightly green-smudged) against her lips. "How much more local could the produce get? How are things, Angua? Trooper-related headaches today?"
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Pause for effect.
"Literally. I have papercuts in places I won't mention because I'd like to be eating soon. The omelette sounds good."
Even if eggs were technically cheating.
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
"I'm thinking about it," she admitted. "I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be to maintain . . . and let's keep the details of those papercuts vague, huh? Oh, gosh, how long were you under there for?"
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Her eyes, however, drifted back toward the wall. "Do you think," she wondered, "people might take to a Pick Your Own Broccoli thing?"
Re: Talk to Lacey [9/13]
Oh, right. She was supposed to be commiserating over the paperwork thing.
"Three days? I hope it was interesting reading, at least."
