The Streets of Fandom, Friday Afternoon

"Alright, guys!" Zack's arms were crossed over his chest as he looked around the streets. Handwavey Messages had been left on the phones of anybody who had exchanged numbers at past Reserve meetings, Martial or Magic, and people had been told to bring whatever they needed in order to go zombie-fish hunting. "This is kind of like the time we had alligators burping goldfish, but this time, there aren't any gators, and the fish mean business. I don't want anybody setting off to face them down on their own, you hear me?"

He casually ducked as a swarm of piranha zipped by, where his head had been a moment before.

Karla sent a flare of Sapphire power after the swarm, dropping them in mid-air. Hello! They were talking here! No reason to be man-eating and rude.

"There's no reason for anyone to keep fighting while injured, or anything like that, so if you get bit or something, head back to the dorms or the clinic and have someone stitch you back up," Karla continued. "The last thing any of us want is some kind of suppurating flesh wound. They're gross."

While Karla spoke, the piranhas had undergone their zombiefication and flung themselves back up into the air, heading back for the group.

"Great. Also, it looks like you have to kill them twice."

A well-aimed Fira spell courtesy of Zack took care of the re-raised fish, and after a moment taken to poke at one of the char-broiled bodies with his toe, Zack shrugged and looked to the group.

"Let's get to it, then, and show these fish that they're messing with the wrong island!"

[This was always in the streets, ssh. OCD-Free and open to all! If you think you got a message, then you totally did, but anybody is welcome to meander on in to check out the action! Co-Written with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] glacial_witch, of course!]

Tim's hand flew to his face, but his mask was still attached. Three of the ninja piranhas tried to take advantage of the opening, but Tim swept his staff and took them all out. "It's, uh, a secret identity thing," he said. "How did you know it was me?"

"Your psychic scent," Karla explained, still giving Tim a confused glance. "You still feel like you, even with a mask on. Why do you have a secret identity anyway? Why do you need one? And your costume is so...colorful."

"I'm a crimefighter," Tim said. He smashed another ninja piranha with his staff. "And other-things-fighter. It's kind of hard to explain. Can you please call me Robin when I'm dressed like this?"
glacial_queen: (Skeptical)

"Robin?" Karla wasn't sounding skeptical, really. "That's your superhero name? Waita--were you the one who was mean to Raven on the rooftop, back when you first arrived?!"

Mother Night, Robin. Holding the actions of a Raven from a different world against this one is wrong. Really.

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Robin is a perfectly good superhero name and I wasn't mean to her."
glacial_queen: (We are NOT amused)

"Do you know the Black Canary?" Karla asked. "Is there some weird law that you all need to be named after birds, too?"

Hadn't their been a Hawkman when they'd gone up against the JLA that time...?

"And that's not what she's says," she retorted, hands on hips. "She was quite distressed."

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"The bird thing's just coincidental," Tim said. Another swarm - school? - of piranhas approached on his left and Tim threw a bang-a-rang into the ground beneath them. "Well, what was I supposed to think about Raven?" he demanded. He threw another bang-a-rang and took out most of the piranhas just as they transitioned into zombies. "The last time I'd seen her, she killed a minister while he was trying to perform a wedding ceremony!"
glacial_queen: (Huffy)

Karla set the remaining ones on fire with a gesture.

"Well, I hope you've since changed your mind," Karla said huffily. "That Raven isn't our Raven. She still got the boot from Zatanna, but didn't have a Fandom to turn to."

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I know she's not the same Raven. I don't hold her responsible for what a different version of herself did," Tim said. Paranoia about what she could do was something different. And not something he was going to say out loud.
glacial_queen: (Conversation 5)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's good, at least," Karla said, thawing slightly. "So, you do this often? Run around as Robin and...do stuff? You can't fight off piranhas as...you?"

On the other hand, Karla never would have guessed that Tim would be out here at all, in costume or not. And certainly not acquitting himself as well. So it was possible he had a point.

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I have to maintain my secret identity, even here," Tim said. "It's better if people don't know Tim Drake can fight."
glacial_queen: (Not Best Pleased)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Why?" Karla asked. Then considered her own question "Well, I mean, I suppose there are a few people from your world, here, so if you don't want it getting out back home..."

Though, really, weren't most of the people here superheroes of one stripe or another anyway.

Which reminded her. "Hey! You really do know members of the JLA, don't you!"

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I... yes," Tim admitted. "Batman's my mentor."
glacial_queen: (Concerned)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Batman!" Karla protested. "He's a--" She bit back several of the adjectives that sprang to mind, since Tim would probably be upset if she used most of them. "He threw grenades at people! Grenades!"

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I doubt they were real grenades," Tim said. "Nobody lost any limbs, did they?"
glacial_queen: (Pursed lips)

"Jono destroyed them before had a chance to go off," Karla replied. "That was after they came in and ruined the ritual, but before they dashed off, leaving us to deal with an angry demon with delusions of grandeur."

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, I'm not going to try to defend him when I don't know the whole story," Tim said. "I'm proud to be part of his team."
glacial_queen: (Glare)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Karla bit back a comment about being excited to wear colored tights. After all, she didn't want to turn this into another fight with Tim.

...More of another fight with Tim.

"Is he the one that insists you keep your identity a secret?" Karla asked instead.

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"It's part of the job," Tim said. "I'd appreciate if you didn't tell anyone about this."
glacial_queen: (Don't try it glare)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, NOW Karla was going to give him a look: slightly exasperated tinged with a side of hurt. "Gee, Robin I had no idea what the 'secret' part of of 'secret identity' stood for. You being the first person I've run into with a secret identity and all. I suppose I shall have to put aside my ridiculous love of gossip to agree, but I guess I'll find the strength somehow."

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Tim looked at her for a long moment, then said in a low voice. "If my identity gets out, it could cost the lives of the people I love. Yes, I'll risk bruising your ego and asking what might be obvious when a miscommunication could kill someone in my family."

Okay, technically, he had a pretty good point. Karla, however, was tired and sore after a very long day killing things and had worked herself into a snit.

"You are not the only one with secrets!" she snapped, since she didn't actually have a logical rejoinder. "Not even the only person with secrets that could lead to others dying. But, fine! If you want to pat me on the head and tell me the obvious because it will make you feel better, just fine!"

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Tim clenched his jaw. "I don't have time to stroke your ego right now. We can discuss this another time when you've calmed down."
glacial_queen: (It is on)

Re: NFB, please

[personal profile] glacial_queen 2010-09-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Fine," Karla said, spinning about on her heel. "May I suggest doing so at a time when you're not in tights? I've noticed that when a male wears pants that snug, they tend to pinch his balls, and that tends to pinch his temper. Just something to think about, you know, the next time you're brooding on a rooftop or something."

Re: NFB, please

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Tim had never been so happy to see a swarm of ninja piranha. He didn't even bother with the bang-a-rangs this time. Beating them with his staff was much more satisfactory.
