The Perk, Sunday Afternoon

Clint had to admit that out of all the things this place had thrown at him so far, being followed around by a hawk wasn't so bad.

"That amount of coffee doesn't require that much sugar. You're just going to end up cranky later."

Okay, he could have done without the hawk talking to him, but at least she'd been mostly friendly? And maybe he didn't need that much sugar after all.

Natasha entered the Perk, followed by a snow leopard, and proceeded to the counter to order a coffee, tossing, "I don't want to hear it," over her shoulder at Clint as she went.

Clint bit his lip and gave Natasha an amused look. "I wasn't going to say anything."

"Liar," Camelai said calmly.

Clint made a face at the hawk. "Ignore the bird, I think she's trying to get me killed."

"He doesn't talk much," Natasha said, jerking her head toward the snow leopard. She was trying to avoid telling people his name if at all possible. "So that's not been a concern, at least. Although I'm a little concerned if I have to crawl through any air shafts..." She looked dubiously down at the snow leopard.

"He'll have to crawl in too?" Clint said uncertainly. "Apparently separation isn't an option, which is kind of weird."

"I've noticed," Natasha said dryly, then gave the snow leopard another look. "Couldn't you have been something smaller?"

The snow leopard sighed. "No," he said in Russian-accented English.

"Maybe it means you have a big heart, to have such a big animal," Clint said, only half teasing. "It could be worse, you could have something that wouldn't fit in the house."

"Or it could have been some kind of insect," Natasha said, giving Clint a look that suggested he not make the obvious joke. "The cat probably would have eaten it. Instead now I have two cats."

"You are not comparing me to that scrap of fluff, are you?" the snow leopard asked, insulted.

Considering the hawk currently perched on Clint's chair, he really couldn't joke about insects without the joke being pointed back at him. "Hey, that scrap of fluff is adorable, and someday it'll be a real cat. Maybe," he said. "But you're much better, clearly." Hey, Clint didn't know if these animals could attack people for being annoying or not.

"Don't go flattering him, he's annoying enough already," Natasha ~~whined~~ whined.

"Isn't flattering him like flattering you? Kind of?" Clint asked.

"I don't know," Natasha admitted. "None of this makes sense to me." Not least because if you'd asked her she'd have told you she didn't have a soul.

"I think when this place starts to make sense, it'll be the sign that we've been here for too long," Clint said with a smirk. "But look at it this way, now we have proof you're human." That was a positive thing to Clint, at least.

"I guess," Natasha said. The snow leopard butted its head against her knees. Natasha didn't jump a mile or try to kick it, which had to mean something, she supposed.

"And if this place starts to make sense I'm calling Fury for an evac immediately."

"It's so reassuring when we're on the same page," Clint said, giving her a genuine smile.

Kitty wasn't planning on going for coffee. But when she spotted Clint through the window, she had to stop and wave.

From atop her horse.

Look, you try not turning your soul into your own personal chauffeur.

Clint stared for a moment, before getting up and going outside. "Well, that's one way to get around, I suppose," he said. "How is that okay?"

"I think the important question is, how is this not okay?" Kitty grinned. "I'm on a horse."

"He can see that," said Kadin.

"Do you mind? I'm trying to reference a two-year-old commercial here. God."

"You're definitely more impressive than a nice smelling man," Clint said. "I guess if I was ever going to ride a horse, it'd be nice if it knew what I was saying.

"Mostly 'stop pretending you're in a western,'" Kadin said.

Kitty only looked mildly embarrassed. But she did ask really quickly, "What'd you get?"

Clint looked back as Camelai flew outside and hovered around him. "She's a hawk. It's pretty fitting. And she fits inside easily."

"There is that," Kitty said with a sigh, finally bringing her leg over to slide off her horse.

"That's not my fault," Kaidan reminded her.

Kitty ignored him. "Of course you got a hawk. And she's pretty, too." Don't suck up to pieces of people's souls, Kitty.

"Well, that's because I'm so handsome," Clint said.

Camelai swooped a little closer. "No, it's really not. But feel free to keep thinking so."

Kitty smiled. "And she's sassy. I like her."

"Yeah, that's just what I need, another sassy lady in my life," Clint teased with an eyeroll.

"If you didn't like it, you wouldn't hang around us," Kitty reasoned.

"I'd argue with that, but this one's keeping me honest," Clint said with a nod towards Camelai. "And arguing might only encourage you."

"I would kind of feel it was my responsibility to prove you wrong there," she nodded.

"Good. He needs to be proven wrong a lot more," Camelai said.

"Hey!" Clint protested. "That makes it sound like I'm always wrong."

"I'm sure you're not," Kitty said, but had to tease,"Though I am still getting to know you..."

"Hey, hey, no, I am almost always right."

"Except when it comes to females," Camelai said helpfully.

Clint scowled. "That's why I said almost always."

Well now she had to ask.

"Don't ask," Kadin said.

"Oh really? So," Kitty said, totally ignoring him, "how are you almost always right except when it comes to females?"

"Can we go back to having animals that don't talk? I like the ones that just purr and stay cute," Clint said, sighing. "There might be times, occasionally, when I'm not as good at knowing how to deal with women as I am in dealing with, well, anything else at all."

"I think that just means you're a guy." Seriously, she could tell stories about her previous boyfriends.

"Well, that's reassuring, I suppose," Clint said. "But it also implies that I'm stuck this way like every other guy."

"Nah. If I thought all guys were stuck a certain way I'd never date," Kitty pointed out. "It just means it's not a bad thing to get proven wrong every once in a while."

"It is to certain stubborn people," Camelai said.

Clint scowled and tried to ignore her. "Every once in a while is all right. I really am trying to learn."

"And I'm pretty sure that's what you've got on most guys," Kitty said, kind of happy to hear that. It was better than dealing with someone who just wanted to be stubborn for stubborn's sake. (Pete.)

"That, and nice arms. Supposedly," Clint teased. "Or so I've been told."

"Supposedly? Do you own a mirror?" Kitty laughed.

Clint gave Kitty an amused look. "I don't think I look at myself in the mirror the same way you look at me. Which isn't such a bad thing, really."

"Okay, good point. Then trust me when I say your arms are kind of fantastic, not just nice," she said, trying to ignore soul animals hearing this. Hers had to already know, at least, right?

"You're going to give him a big ego if you keep that up," Camelai said, but she sounded as amused as a hawk probably could.

"Don't listen to her," Clint said quickly. "I won't get an ego if you say nice, true things."

"I will give you as big an ego as I want," Kitty said. "I promise I'll stop before it starts trying to destroy Tokyo."
