Sushi Station, Wednesday Evening

After he closed up at the shop, Victor ran back to the dorms to get ready for his date with Isabelle. This involved putting extra gel in his hair in a (mostly failed) attempt to get it to stop doing the stupid thing it was currently doing and -- because Isabelle seemed classy that way -- changing into a shirt with buttons and an actual collar.

And now he was rocking back and forth on his heels as he waited in front of the sushi place. Raw fish wasn't normally his first pick, but it seemed like a good night to try new-ish things.

[OOC: Primarily for Isabelle but it is, after all, an open restaurant.]

Isabelle was classy that way, so buttons and a collar were a good call. She herself showed up in a nice dress (was there any other kind with her?) and in heels that should have made her a lot less graceful on Fandom's streets than they seemed to.

And of course, there was a smile on her face when she spotted Victor.

"Hey there," Victor smiled, standing up a little straighter. He could already tell the shirt with buttons had been a good choice, and was wondering if he should have even upgraded to a tie.

"You look really good. I never get how girls walk in those things."

"It's a natural skill," Isabelle decided with an easy shrug as she stopped in front of him and glanced down at her heels. "I'm not sure it can even be learned."

She was mostly joking, even if there was a lot of Shadowhunter advantages that went into her grace on her ridiculous shoes.

"See, and I was going to ask for a lesson. There go my big plans for after dinner," Victor joked, and opened the restaurant door to let Isabelle inside.

Isabelle brushed past him into the restaurant with a smirk. Her perfume smelled like spices and flowers.

"Well, it's still early," she quipped. "Maybe you'll discover hidden talents within yourself."

"It's completely possible." Victor, meanwhile, didn't smell like anything special -- Ivory soap, and a faint sharp tinge of electrical ions. He felt outclassed as he trailed after Isabelle.

He spoke to the hostess for a moment, and she showed them to a table. Once they were settled, he spoke again.

"So, do you have any hidden talents I should know about?"

Honestly, whenever people didn't feel like they were outclassed by Isabelle, she was doing something wrong. (If you asked her, anyway. It was probably best not to ask her.)

"I have many hidden talents," she replied easily, resting an elbow against the table, and her chin on her hand. "But, ones you should know about in this public a setting? Hmmm."

She tapped a fingertip against her cheek.

"I'm pretty handy with a whip."

That wasn't even a hidden talent. It was just the most amusing thing to say.

Victor was glad they didn't have water yet, or he would have choked.

"That is not an opener I expected you to go with," he admitted, though he sounded far more intrigued than anything else. "How often do you get to whip stuff?"

"Not as often as I'd like," she replied, wrinkling her nose. "I guess Fandom's not as whip-friendly as New York."

The best she'd managed here had been using her whip to pull Chuck's feet out from underneath him. Althogh admittedly that had been hilarious.

"Y'know, I've been thinking this place was missing something," Victor responded. "Now I know what it is."

He added, idly, "Funny how New York is weird stuff central basically everywhere. It's the same way back home."

"Well, it's the second greatest city in the world." The greatest being Idris, but maybe she wouldn't share that. She tilted her head curiously at something else, anyway. "What's weird about your New York?"

"It's superhero central," Victor answered. "So, lots of people with powers running around, and there's a whole neighborhood called Mutant Town where the people with, um, genetic differences can mostly get left alone. First time I went there, we ended up having sushi with Spider-Man."

He scratched awkwardly at the back of his neck. "Which ... you probably don't know who that is, huh?"

Isabelle, predictably, shook her head. And shrugged.

"A man made of spiders?"

That probably wasn't it. Although she was also extremely fuzzy on the concept of superheroes in general, if she was honest.

Isabelle gave him a look that suggested he shouldn't patronize her, but it was joking. Really, what guy on a date with her would be dumb enough to actually act patronizing towards her, anyway?

Victor's superpowers included the ability to be patronizing about superheroes to anyone. Including other superheroes. However, he wasn't quite oblivious to use that tone on Isabelle more than once.

"That, and he has the proportionate strength, speed and jumping ability of a spider," he said. "Which is cooler than it sounds."

Isabelle clearly didn't understand the meaning of cool.

Victor nodded. "Yeah, it was awesome up to the part where my ex got worried he was going to do something obnoxious and knocked him out with a sleeping spell." He went pink. "So ... probably I should apologize for that if I ever see him again."

It was all so very Marvel.

It was.

"Probably." Even if this Spider-Man person sounded mostly like a particularly odd kind of Downworlder, and Isabelle wasn't that big on apologizing just in general. "So, do you have any hidden talents I should know about? Beyond having friends who cause you to apologize to man-spiders."

"The weird friends are a power all their own," Victor told her, then paused awkwardly. It wasn't that he thought he had any secrets on the island anymore, but a direct conversation about what he was often got a little strange.

"Depends on how impressed you are that I can beat video games fast," he finally continued, deflecting slightly. "And I'm good with metal, electricity, magnets, anything like that. Kind of a whole powers package."

The first part didn't impress her much simply because she wasn't that familiar with video games. Were they hard to beat? She didn't know.

She also wasn't sure what qualified as being good with magnets.

"Like, I can make them do things without touching them," Victor clarified, then lowered his voice slightly out of self-consciousness. "I'm an android. Kind of comes with a bunch of hidden talents, at least for me."

For a second there, Isabelle gave him a blank look. She obviously wasn't genre savvy enough to be having this conversation.

"Like a robot?"

It was probably for the best that she didn't really know about the clockwork automatons some of her ancestors had battled in the prequel series, either.

"DNA, nanotechnology, and a very long story," Victor said, then tilted his head curiously. "No offense, but are you a science person at all? 'Cause I can go into more detail if you are."

That wasn't Victor being patronizing again. That was Victor having heard enough about Alec's family to assume technology wasn't a priority for any of them.

Mundane technology didn't even work back in the Shadowhunters' country of origin. So, he was not off with that assessment at all.

"No, I'm not a science person."

She was kind of eyeing him with something akin to professional curiosity now, though.

Under that cool gaze, Victor dropped his eyes and got very interested in rearranging the utensils and condiments on the table.

"Sorry," he half-mumbled. "I maybe should have saved the robot thing for after dinner."

"It's okay." And maybe she should have apologized (okay, she definitely should have apologized), but that... didn't really even occur to her. "I'm just curious."

Mostly she was tryig to decide whether this made him a Downworlder.

"That's probably a good idea," Victor said, ducking his head to mask the slow smile spreading across his face. It seemed he was a fan of dessert.

He flagged down the waiter and ordered shrimp sushi and tempura. He was still a little suspicious of raw fish in general.
