Atlas Gym, Friday Afternoon
For someone who was such a good toy, Clint was finding it a little hard to have fun right now. The reports on the radio were getting more terrible every day, more and more toys were turning out to be bad, and Kitty... no, Kitty was a good toy who had a wonderfully fun reason for not coming home last night, and she'd surely tell him and Lexi all about it when she came home tonight.
Lexi, of course, was being the best baby doll ever while Clint organized all the little plastic weights back into their rightful places. Staying focused on work would help him stay happy, and making sure the good toys had a place to exercise all their moveable parts really was fun!

Well, this was going to go beautifully.
"Clint, darling. Where is your wife?"
no subject
"Karla, hi." Oh, this awful week was making him feel such unpleasant feelings. "I... I don't know where Kitty is."
It wasn't a lie, at least?

She went to pat him on the arm with one wooden hand. "Clint. Would a good toy make you worry like this? Is there any reason you can think of that Kitty wouldn't come home for you? Or for Lexi?"
Oh god, Karla was going to send herself to Hell when all this was over.

"No, I... I think she's..." Oh, this was so hard to say! "I think she's gone bad."
He was going to owe so many apologies later.
Clint straightened himself up, which mostly meant unbending his knees and arms. "What should I do?"

Just twist that knife a little bit deeper, Karla, go ahead.
"You must have some idea of where she's gone to ground. Find her. Bring her back to the Toybox. And maybe...just maybe, she actually is innocent. In which case she'll be happy to cooperate and explain how this is all just one big misunderstanding. But either way, Clint, you've got to find her."
She lowered her voice, leaning in to whisper, "It'll be better if you're the one to find her. Some of the others are a little...excited. If you don't find her, she might not be able to be brought in safely."
no subject
"I'll find her, don't you worry," he said sternly. "I know a few places she might go, and the town isn't that big. She can't hide from me forever."

She made sure to pitch her voice loud enough for the squirrels outside to hear.
There was more than one way to skin a...kitty cat.
