Midsummer Festival - The Beach, Saturday Evening
Sure it was a week late. And sure it wasn't even a traditional Midsummer festival because there weren't any games or people selling fried foods or screaming eyeballs in the sky.
But Magnus was pretty darn proud of what had been tossed together for a fun costume party on the beach.
With a big, mildly terrifying wicker bear waiting to be set on fire because something something Midsommar. He wasn't sure of the details because scary movies weren't his jam.
Either way, it would be good, clean fun!
[Open party!]

Re: WICKER BEAR
Of course it wasn't.
Re: WICKER BEAR
Re: WICKER BEAR
"Yes."
And how much he'd enjoyed it.
Re: WICKER BEAR
Re: WICKER BEAR
"I wasn't trying to suggest that."
Re: WICKER BEAR
Re: WICKER BEAR
That was not a good answer and she knew it.
Re: WICKER BEAR
He knew he couldn’t her to just start opening up all the time, but she’d been having almost a normal week.
Re: WICKER BEAR
Octavia pressed her eyes closed, just for a second. Then opened them again, refocusing on the flames. "It's just a memory," she said. "It's just something I liked, a long time ago. I liked --"
She cut herself off. There were still things she wasn't sure she should say out loud.
Re: WICKER BEAR
He really shouldn’t promise that.
Re: WICKER BEAR
She tried not to.
"You liked it when I was vicious then. And I liked that."
Re: WICKER BEAR
“You standing in that caldera was one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen.”
He’d been exhausted and terrified and pissed and there she’d been, wreaking his vengeance. His, specifically. He still couldn’t think of any other time anyone had done that for him.
Re: WICKER BEAR
Sharp smiles for sharp smiles as they'd planned the revenge-in-effigy. It had stuck with her, but she wasn't surprised it didn't seem to have stuck with him, too.
(The worst parts of her were disappointed.)
Re: WICKER BEAR
Re: WICKER BEAR
And her gaze returned to the fire.
But she inhaled a deep breath, and exhaled a sigh. And tried anyway. "When we set up the goat-burning," she said. "It made you happy I wanted to do all of it, too. And you liked it when I wanted to cut the neck. Let it bleed out slow."
All straw and symbols, of course, but like Indra had so adamantly believed... Symbols mattered.
Re: WICKER BEAR
He didn’t much like that side of himself. Didn’t dislike it; it’d kept him alive more times than he could count. But he wasn’t proud of it.
“And that was. That was beautiful, to you.”
Re: WICKER BEAR
"Yes."
Re: WICKER BEAR
She’d called him important, when he hadn’t wanted to believe that. Who was he to argue?
“Well. Alright, then.”
He gave her mother look out of the corner of his eye, this time with a quirk of his lips.
“Wanna see how much better I’ve gotten at sword throwing?”
Re: WICKER BEAR
"Sure?"
That wasn't supposed to sound like a question.
Re: WICKER BEAR
“Cool.”
Re: WICKER BEAR
Not that Octavia could tell. So she just gave him the kind of tiny nod that seemed both mildly confused as well as too tired to try and figure it out.
Re: WICKER BEAR
"Maybe tomorrow?"
Re: WICKER BEAR
She hadn't even touched her sword since she'd returned. So. That was going to be a thing.
Re: WICKER BEAR
Re: WICKER BEAR
But eventually, she did. Linking hers with his.
