died8yearsago: (coffee at desk)

Diaz & Ass., Monday [09/13].

A Monday in the office seemed to be in the cards for Rosa that day, after spending most of her week on a case up in Brooklyn and following a few leads here and there, compiling evidence and even a few testimonials (her favorite). But now that the evidence was compiled, it was time to start going through it all, which meant a lot of combing and boring footage interpresed with maybe a few little sparks of inspiration or helpful information few and far between.

Some things just weren't adding up the way they should, and there may have been a few times where, after rubbing her eyes and refreshing her coffee, she sat back down and caught a glimpse of a math textbook on her desk (which she would deny she had anything to do with, it was clearly a weird Fandom thing, clearly), narrowed her eyes at it speculatively, and then considered what kind of story problem could be built out of some of her evidence.

Was it cheating to just try to use your class as a way to crack some mysteries? Or was it just being resourceful?

The point was kind of moot, anyway; not a lot of this stuff really translated well into math problems. It wasn't like she was dealing with someone just stealing forty cakes, or something...

Diaz & Ass. is open!

Here, Rosa, have more coffee!

Miguel came downstairs with two cups, plunked one down in front of her, and tried not to smirk too much.

"How was New York?"

Miguel put on his most innocent look. "It's perfectly good black coffee. Extra caffeinated, even. How was New York?"

"I never claimed subtle," Miguel pointed out. "Hey, it's not sweet, right? All the Fall, extra caffeine, none of the overpowering sugar." He drank his, still grinning.

"Acceptable fine or really shocking annoying fine?"

Miguel mimed a heart attack. "How could you treat caffeine like that, Diaz? That could be unforgiveable." Or he'd just make another pot. "Also I'm definitely not helping you clean that up."

He shrugged. "Don't suppose burning them's an option."

"I didn't put anything in it." Miguel shrugged. "It came like that." He'd just spent actual money on it.

"Oh, okay. Maybe make copies and burn them, just for the satisfaction. Anything digital to leave a trail?" He wiggled his fingers, happy to help with any hacking she needed.

Miguel smirked. "Might make it again, too. I have a whole bag."

He leaned back in his chair. "You know I'm happy to make Scully and Jake look bad." Not that he'd ever met them, but it was the principle of the thing.

He went back to grinning. "And speaking of looking bad..." He poked at the math book.

"Don't what?" Miguel grinned. "Okay, you're right. There's absolutely nothing bad about teaching math. Math is useful! I've done a ton of math myself. But then..."

He widened his eyes and leaned forward. "Wait, are you becoming a nerd? You can tell me."
