Dite's Decadent Delights | Tuesday
It wasn't Irene's usual day to open, but given that there was still the hardware from a broken fixture hovering over the dildos, it seemed better to open up and get things repaired rather than arbitrarily waiting until Wednesday.
She had at least cleaned up the broken glass from the week prior, and set up a little 'caution' sign and everything, and that was about the extent of what Irene felt capable of, in terms of taking care of this problem on her own.
Much more in her wheelhouse was making sure that the Halloween costumes were pulled a little more towards the front, given that the holiday in question was only a month or so off now and you never knew whether someone might be on the hunt for a sexy 'happy tree painter' costume.
[link nws, also I feel like I'm going to hell now.]

Talk to Irene
Re: Talk to Irene
"Good morning, Ms. Adler," he said as he walked in. "Is now a good time?" Dwight asked holding up the work bag.
Re: Talk to Irene
It was probably easy to tell, yes, but Irene led the way over, all the same, completely without acknowledging anything about their setting or the merchandise on display. She was a professional, and all.
Re: Talk to Irene
"From the looks of it, you're lucky it was just the chain that broke and the outer fixture only that fell. Could have had the entire thing come down and bring some of the ceiling with it. Let me get up there and get a closer look, but I think we will be fine with a quick swap out for now."
(I can type...I promise. Just not on my phone evidently lol )
Re: Talk to Irene
"I'm very lucky I was across the room," Irene admitted. "Scared the daylights out of me even so. No idea what happened to bring it down."
Re: Talk to Irene
handwavelygot the ladder and set it up and climbed up to get a closer look."It looks like the wiring got a bit frayed and the casing that's still attached up here looks a bit worn and cracked. The fixture was probably just hanging by the wires and it eventually just snapped. That can happen with these older buildings at time. Good thing is no one got hurt!"
Re: Talk to Irene
There was something for everyone out there. Maybe there was someone who preferred these things to have a chunk taken out of them.
Re: Talk to Irene
"I brought the two best fixtures I have on hand with me" he said as pulled them out the work bag. "I'm afraid neither are quite up to the same level of elegance the current ones are. I can order in whatever you may want, but I figured I would wait till you decide if you want to do a full upgrade on the lights or not."
What? Dwight keeping busy? Talk to distract himself? Never!
Re: Talk to Irene
She was not, after all, the Aphrodite who had opened the store to begin with, and it had changed hands a couple times since then, as well.
"But in the meantime, thank you," she added. "We still need to see."
Re: Talk to Irene
"So, you mentioned you inherited the shop from the previous owner...." Dwight said as he started clearing out the remnants of the old fixture. "How did you come about getting the shop?"
Yeah, he sucked at small talk at times. He was trying his best!
Re: Talk to Irene
Said with the casualness of someone who had...well, you know, been a sex worker for a long time.
Re: Talk to Irene
He fiddled with the wires for a moment before continuing. "Island is a lot different than Haven... got a lot of shops and things you definitely didn't see back home. I think the nearest shop we had like this one was the next big town over, more than an hour drive from Haven."
Re: Talk to Irene
It was honestly a feat that no one had come in wearing a pair of Groucho Marx glasses or something.
"And there's always the ever-discreet internet." Which, honestly, Irene was considering setting up a web store, considering.
Re: Talk to Irene
Yeah it had been a while. Quite a while.
Re: Talk to Irene
Just saying, Dwight.
Re: Talk to Irene
He paused for a moment as he looked down at Irene. "But going from a loveless marriage, to being a divorcee, to being a single father, and now I guess essentially a bachelor again? Just makes it a little more... ummm... interesting with not being a huge fan of it all in the first place," he said as he turned his attention back to the fixture.
So yeah, that all had just kinda came out.
Re: Talk to Irene
A pause, a smile, and, "Even the burliest amongst us can make discoveries about ourselves later in life." And it didn't even seem like Dwight was all that much older than her, anyway.
Re: Talk to Irene
When he finished he started down the ladder as he nodded towards the new fixture. "Feel like flipping the switch?" he asked Irene with a small smirk as he crossed his fingers jokingly.
Re: Talk to Irene
Which might have sounded flirtatious from someone less carefully clinical-but-warm. She shot a smile over, turning it into an exaggerated wince, before flipping the switch.
Hopefully she wouldn't have to call Travis.
Re: Talk to Irene
Giving Irene the thumbs up he waited. "Hey success!" he said in mock surprise as the lights came on. Dwight gave a chuckle as he turned to look at Irene. "What do you think?"
Re: Talk to Irene
Aww, look, Dwight. She wanted to keep you!
"And," she added, with a lift of one eyebrow, "all questions are welcome. Anything. I can get you resources on anything you'd like, too. No dumb questions, nothing too small. This can all be -- confusing, and things change over time, too. What was true in our teens might not be true in our twenties or our thirties or forties, and so on."
Re: Talk to Irene
He chuckled and held a hand up as he looked at Irene. "And you can stop the count at the thirties. I'm not that old, yet... though my back sometimes says otherwise" he added, shaking his head.
