Magpie Emporium, Thursday (1/6)

On Monday, Steph had gotten a package in the mail: a small framed portrait of herself gesturing dramatically behind her GM screen at a table in the Black Lantern, running a game for Alex, Ethan, and Hector, while Ryan and Charlotte and a couple of others looked on. Unmistakably Charlotte's style, even if that hadn't already been obvious from the return address and the note in the package.

Said portrait was up on the wall behind the register now, and yeah, Steph was damn proud of it.

Today's project: installing a new community bulletin board up near the front, all sectioned out with space for various regional events, a spotlight on crowdfunding campaigns for promising new games, business cards for crafty geek friends' Etsy shops, and ads for a few upcoming LARPs in the area.

Yeah, you know what? Steph could really get used to this kind of thing.

Guillermo had heard that there was a gaming shop in town and he didn’t have any classes today so that was going to be the first place that he checked out.

“Oh wow,” he said, eyes widening as he entered, “this place is awesome!”’he couldn’t help but exclaim.

[will be heading to work shortly but I had to have him visit :)

“Hey,” Guillermo waved, “I heard there was a gaming store in town, thought I’d check it out,” he grinned, “also I’m from 2004 so is there anything in particular I need to check out gaming wise that’s happened since then?”

"Bro, 2004? You have way more catching up on to do than I did," Steph said, whistling. "The gaming world has, like, way exploded with all kinds of new shit since then. There are so many new gaming systems to pick from and it's even gone pretty mainstream, if you can believe that shit. There's like pro athletes playing D&D online for charity and things now... it's a lot. Like. A lot, so take your time, check things out. Anything specific you had in mind?"

"Oh wow," Guillermo blinked at that, "not a lot of people even know about gaming systems back home, they think it's weird," he admitted, "I've always enjoyed D&D though and LARPING," he told her.

"Then are you ever in the right place," Steph told him. "I've got a fully equipped gaming area upstairs, and there's always a few NPC people up for a game if you feel like giving a new system a test drive. Of course... if you wanted to buy before you try, I guess I wouldn't actively discourage that either?"

“Well my roommate and I are still setting up our dorm room,” Guillermo grinned, “still looking for a few new things to finish decorating and stuff, so I’ll definitely be buying some things here,” he told her, “but I wouldn’t say no to trying a few new gaming systems as well to see what I’ve been missing out on,”

Yang had promised to stop by, so here she was, swinging in before her class started to check it out.

"Nice digs," she said approvingly, looking around. "My sister would lose her shit if we had a store this nice at home in Signal."

"Well, you need any heavy lifting or hammering done, hit me up," Yang said as she flexed her left arm and showed off the results of yesterday's workout. "No furniture too heavy!"

Her left arm had very, very nice guns. Yang was quite pleased with them.

"Mostly checking things out," and of course Yang had to wink when she said that, because she was still Yang and flirted like she was breathing.

"Though I'm absolutely taking recommendations for games for families are super competitive when playing. Anywhere from three-to-eight players, or around in there?"

Steph smirked faintly; this was just a week for getting flirted with, apparently.

"Look as much as you want to," she said easily. "Also, define super competitive: like, are we talking no-holds-barred, possibly tables getting flipped levels of competitive here?"

"Fair enough," Yang said easily. "Gotta protect the merchandise, and keep the store standing. I can respect that."

"Though I should show the security footage from a food fight I got in at my last school sometime." Her smile flickered slightly for a second, at the thought of Beacon, and Blake, before it came back strong. "Not only was it epic, but we won."

"... I didn't think of the store getting leveled," Steph said slowly. "Shit, is that something I might have to worry about around here? That probably explains the insurance paperwork."

It would make sense, given everything she'd experienced here so far.
