Caritas- Saturday before 8:15 pm

It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

"Hi," Jane said, maybe half wondering how she got roped into this, but more than willing to give it a go at least. "I'm Jane. Obviously."

Look, she was a little out of practice here.

Amaya's head ducked a little in concession to that obviously. "Probably would have been a bit awkward," she noted, "if you weren't. And I'm Amaya. Also obviously, and I'm, maybe quite a bit less obviously," especially now that she was wearing normal clothing, "the local blacksmith. What's it you do around here, Jane?"

And was it something she could rustle up some business out of?

"You one of the new teachers?"

That always seemed a fair guess, this time of year.

"I am," Jane replied. "Beginner's Guide to Heroism. Which hopefully makes the whole cape thing less unusual. I'm still working out how to change it."

A real work in progress with weird... Asgardian magic. Stuff.

The cape actually felt far more normal to Amaya, even after all her years here (see: just now actually wearing modern clothes, finally), but maybe not exactly in the context Jane had just put it in, and her head tilted, a little confusion mingled in with the intrigue.

"How to change it...how?" she asked, because, well, changing a cloak didn't really seem like it should be all that complicated, but, hey, also, she'd just met Jane, and, if she went by her experience sometimes with people in armor....they weren't always the...brightest lot at times.

Rude but fair. But really, she'd call Thor more of a precious himbo than dim.

"Oh, it's magic," Jane said, hauling Mjolnir up onto the table to thud into place. "Which, not really my forte. And I know it should be able to change the outfit, but I haven't figured out how just yet."

Because changing back? No thanks.

And to think, Amaya hadn't even met Whisper yet, too!

"Oh." She instantly seemed to deflate, as soon as magic was brought into it, but then, just as quickly, she perked right back up immediately once there was a big massive hammer on the table, because oh hello.

"Oh." That next one came with an understanding, almost sympathetic nod. "Cursed weapon, then, is it? That's always a tricksy one, but there's more than a few magically-inclined folks on the island that might be able to have a look at it for you. Can't say I'm much help there, when I work with weapons, I do it without the bells and whistles, unless you count the materia, which I really don't, they're more like technology than anything else, if you ask me. But, zounds."

Her eyes were trained on Mjolnir with admiration and she shook her head and let out a long whistle. "That's definitely a piece worth being cursed over."

"I don't think I'd say it's cursed," Jane said, giving Mjolnir a little pat purely out of reflex like it's feelings could be hurt here or something. "I definitely ended up almost a foot taller after picking it up. Which is great after being short for my whole life."

Again. Maybe not the biggest thing to gush about, but if you thought that, clearly you weren't short.

"And I guess if you're going to be stuck looking a certain way," said Amaya, who, in her her experience, felt like gaining a whole foot would just really mess up her center of balance and her rhythm at the forge and therefore would be more trouble than it was worth, but, to prove the narrative, she was categorically average on that front, "I'll have to admit, at least it's one that's working for you."

Because she had eyes, thank you.

Not very good ones, because she should really wear her glasses more, but that was beside the point.

"Still," she said, "the idea of being stuck with anything I can't change, no matter what benefits might come along with it, falls squarely into 'cursed' territory, if you ask me, but I never did hold much water for the magic stuff."

"Oh, I was there with you before it all kind of just... fell into my life." Like a guy being yeeted out of space by his dad.

"Yeah," said Amaya, sighing as though she could related, despite the fact that she, for the record, could not, actually, but she could sympathize! And she could definitely assume! "That does seem to be how those sorts of things typically go."

It was then that the sound went off to signal the end of the round.

"And," she added, pushing back her chair, "that sounds like a story for another time, at that."

She gave Jane a thoughtful look, though, as she stood up. "It was nice meeting you, Jane," she said. "Swing by the shop sometime if you the chance; I'd love to hear more about all this magical hammer stuff, and maybe even chat about some weapons and armor that are perhaps a lot less magical, too, while we're at it."

"I will," Jane promised. "It was nice to meet you!"
