Homecoming 2022, Community Center, Friday Evening

Homecoming in November meant the community center was decked out in harvest-themed decorations for this evening's festivities. There were pumpkins that had somehow survived un-carved after Halloween, baskets of glittery vegetables (not for eating, please), decorative hay bales, and... a disco ball?

It's a dance, some things get dug out of the decoration closet no matter what the theme might be.

The food table was full and the drinks were un-spiked for the moment, so it was time for everyone to get their dance on!

Kurt was absolutely all smiles as he walked with Libby to the dance floor. They had done this before, once, but that was a while ago and a lot had changed since then. He gave Libby a reassuring smile, hoping she didn't change her mind now that they were here and actually doing this.

To say that a lot had changed since that last dance they'd shared was an understatement; in a way, Libby's whole world had changed since then. So it was with a very particular timidity, a soft shyness and a hint of uncertainty, that she went with Kurt onto the dance floor, watching carefully to better follow his lead.

Kurt lead the way to the dance floor, keeping to the side a bit so as not to be too front and center in front of everyone. This was about him and Libby, not what anyone else thought or said.

"You really do look lovely," he said with a soft grin as he stood, trying to fight back the nerves as he went to put his hands on Libby's waist lightly, almost afraid himself of messing up the beautiful dress.

Well, that certainly was not helping with the blushing, although at least Libby managed to keep it from getting additionally worse as they settled into some sort of position together, her hand light as a feather with uncertainty on Kurt's shoulder.

"So do you," she said, and then laughed at little at how that sounded and shook her head. "I mean, you look handsome. But you always do."

And just when she thought she'd reached the capacity for blushing, too, she goes and proved herself completely wrong! But at least she managed to shut her mouth and keep herself from babbling further along that point.

OK by this point, the blush on his own face just might be visible under all that blue. Especially after that last little comment. And at that moment Kurt felt a mix of things-

Happiness at being able to spend time with Libby, which he always loved and enjoyed no matter what they were doing. Nervousness at not wanting to mess things up or make Libby feel uncomfortable at all. And a brief flutter of sadness as he remember what Libby had said about the decision she was going to have to make soon.

Pushing that last thought out Kurt smiled and started to lead Libby a little as he picked up on the beat of the song. There would be a time for that kind of talk later, if Libby ever wanted to. But that time was not right now. They had better, much better, things to think about and focus on.

And when Kurt didn't seem to have anything to say in response, Libby felt an uncomfortable swell of worry in her chest, wondering if she'd said the wrong thing, or if she shouldn't have said anything like that at all, and her hand curled nervously against his shoulder. Maybe if she just focused on the dancing instead? She really didn't know what she was doing, really, she was just sort of following along with Kurt, but what if she wasn't doing that right, either? So she was torn, between being able to use that as something to focus on and also feeling like she shouldn't focus on it too much, it was just dancing, it really shouldn't be all that complicated, right?

Should she say something else? But who even knew what she might say next? Maybe she should just focus on the dancing, and the music, and Kurt...and...and breathing, apparently, which she knew should be a pretty automatic function, but for someone reason seemed just a little bit more difficult than usual right now...

The silence was all on the nervous flipping Kurt felt in his stomach. He had wanted to reply with a compliment again, but that in a way felt like he was pushing it too much. And he didn't want to make Libby feel any more awkward and uneasy. But he had probably already done that.

So, after a few awkwardly quiet moments Kurt took a deep breath, finding it a little harder to keep his tail from nervously twitching behind him. He looked around the room for a moment, his mind thinking on something, and then gave a soft smile as he leaned in a little closer to Libby to whisper.

"I definitely think this place is enchanted. It has to be to have summoned a fair lady such as yourself" he said with a small grin. It was both an honest statement but also a small attempt to break that nervous tension that had fallen with the silence.

And when Kurt leaned in, Libby not only had to contend with the hitch in her breath and her face feelings like it just might as well be burning right off, but now her hear seemed to be beating so fast, she wondered if she should start shifting through her memory of how to treat palpitations before it became too late.

It was a good thing he whispered, too, because Libby didn't think she could manage a voice louder than one herself right now.

"It must be magic," she agreed. "To have brought me to someone so wonderful. But..." she bit her lip a little, curling and uncurling her hand at his shoulder, "in the stories, don't enchantments like this eventually fade away?"

"Aye, often yes. But maybe..." Kurt said softly after a second of hesitation, wondering if maybe it actually could be possible for once in his life. "Maybe we could find a way to make it last this time. Make our own enchantment that doesn't have to fade?"

"Maybe," Libby said, before cautiously lifting her eyes to try to look at Kurt; she had meant to catch his own eyes, but couldn't quite get them there. "I guess we'll have to wait and find out."

"Aye," Kurt said with a slow nod, ducking his head slightly both out of shyness and in an attempt to catch Libby's gaze. "I'm sure it will be a grand adventure. And I can't think of anyone else I'd rather go on it with."

And in that separate dance their awkward glances seem to be performing within their actual dancing, it was only inevitable that their eyes would actually chance to meet eventually.

So it would be a moment before she could actually remember to respond. Maybe even to blink.

"Kurt..."

"Libby .." Kurt started and trailed off as the song ended. He looked a Libby, suddenly unsure of what to say or do.

He had barely dared hope to get to dance with her at all. And now they had made it through one whole song. Did he dare risk it?

After a brief moment of internal panic and flailing Kurt asked, voice barely above a whisper as he felt butterflies really take off

"Would you like to keep dancing?"

When Libby realized that the song had ended, she felt like her stomach had just dropped down straight into her feet, but the fact that another one immediately followed it made it flutter right back up again, almost a little too far, as if into her throat.

"Y-yes, please," she managed to get out, with a nod, and, as that stomach seemed to burst out into her own butterflies, she laughed a little, feeling almost as if she'd snapped out of some sort of trance.

Enchantments, indeed.

"I really like dancing with you, Kurt."
