The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday

Mary had her suitcase sitting open on the front desk that morning. She'd gotten someone from housekeeping to do her laundry for her and was putting clothes neatly in the suitcase just as soon as they were done. Sometimes it was really nice to have people working for you.

She had no idea how much to pack since she had no idea how long she'd have to stay, but finally Mary gave up worrying and admitted that she could always buy what she needed in Las Vegas. She also wondered if she could persuade George Michael to go with her to the Policeman's Ball tonight. She had an early morning portal and wouldn't be able to stay too late, but it would be enjoyable.

Stan felt like he had been cloistering himself lately, and decided to visit his favorite hotel friend.

"Stan! I'm so glad you dropped by today," said Mary. "I've got to go on a little trip tomorrow," she added, glancing at the open suitcase. A very formal, very un-Mary-like business suit happened to be sitting on top.

"For how long?" he asked. "Not a casual trip?" he asked, his gaze falling on her suitcase.

"I'm not sure how long," replied Mary. "There's some matters back home in Las Vegas that I need to deal with before it becomes a bigger problem."

"How big of a problem?" he asked. After all, he was here talking to his favorite hotel manager. He'd hate to have to talk to a new hotel manager for a while...or worse.

"A very, very big problem," said Mary. "There's something from my past that came back to haunt me."

"Oh, Mary," Stan said. "Will you be in contact? I'm not sure that Gunther and I won't come to blows if I continue to eat here," he said with a sad half-smile, trying a bit of levity. If Stan were a more huggy person...

"I should be reachable, in case anything comes up," said Mary. "That is, unless Fandom decides to be weird and cut me off. Fandom time and Vegas time don't seem to run on the same system."

"Fandom time and any other time do not seem to be parallel," he agreed. "You will be coming back?" Funny, it almost sounded like a statement rather than a question.

"I have to come back at some point," said Mary with a smile. "I'm leaving behind my favorite dress, my favorite purse, and my favorite boyfriend."

"Only those favorites?" he asked, wondering if there was a favorite Stan in there. "You will certainly have to come back for those three." He smiled at her.

"I have a lot of friends here who are also important to me. That's why I'm leaving in the first place," said Mary. "If I take care of this problem now, then I won't be taken away from here later to face what I've done."

"That is very good," Stan declared. "I'm not sure if yours is the same as mine, but I have a few lawyer friends I trust back in the DC area, should you run in to trouble and need a bit of help. They owe me a favor or two." A look flashed across his face and quickly disappeared.

Possible SP throughout the day as I try to get things done before I get on a plane.
