The Boards - Tues - 6/24
Did you think that perhaps, after a weekend stuck in his worst nightmare that Geoffrey would take the time off to make sure that he's mentally equipped for practice?
Screw that.
Geoffrey's got the sign up, he's moving around some things, and he's showing the cast the new 'props' he'd made. Which didn't amount to much, but he had been a bit busy this week.
He's got a rock and a table. And he'd figured out that one of the lighting areas off to one side might be large enough for him to get an actor up there for addressing a crowd.
"So. Today? We're going to work on our blocking. I've been pretty lenient about letting you all get into your characters and deal with the text, but we're getting down to the practicalities of the stage. So! On the stage, now."

Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"We've got a death and a bit of public speaking. Which one do you want to cover first?"
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"Did you have any ideas for it?"
He lifted a finger.
"I know what I want to do. I just want to see if you've thought on it."
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"Well," he said, thoughtfully, and tilted his head. He had thought on it, and had perhaps been building up to this, "have you ever seen anyone die when they weren't expecting it?"
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"Yes, actually."
He had more life experience in the unpleasant sense than most people realized. Something about being an actor...
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"And did you notice how they sort of...really don't realize it at first? There's a...moment, that's sort of...in between life and death, and it's even harder for people observing it to notice, they think everything fine, their confused, they think someone was joking, and then it settles in that, no, something is definitely, definitely wrong here."
He bit his lip slightly. "That's what I want in this scene."
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"You could almost say the play is like that. Rome at large."
He leaned against a pillar.
"Not too far from what I wanted."
He turned to the
NPCswho were playing Chiron and Demetrius."A subtle stabbing in the back, almost like a pat from an old friend until you fall over. Something like that. How's it sound to you?"
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"Care to give it a shot?"
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
The pieces were quite literally falling into place. His production, his hodge-podge maddened half-baked pie of a production.
He smiled.
"Give it another shot, don't rush it, and feel it. Even if you have to pull in some real pain."
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Part of this wasn't necessarily just a rebellion or laziness on his part. Part of it was just a bit of an odd superstition that, if he was basing this off of an actual death from acting, there might be a chance that history could repeat itself.
He tried again, a little better this time, and, hey, he even got some real pain in it because Chiron accidentally stepped on his toe.
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"Think you can do that again?"
Then he smiled at Cal.
"That might be helpful, if your feet can stand it."
And if they couldn't.
...as for the dangers of method acting, Geoffrey was probably someone who could speak volumes to it. He'd delved so deeply into a character that it'd infected his soul, eaten away part of him, and left him somewhat hollow without a production to work on.
There are some people who act because they want to.
There are other people who 'act' because they have to.
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
He raised an eyebrow.
"Plus, if it's planned, there's less chance of him doing it accidentally."
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
"So we switch out an unlikely chance for practically a guarantee. You work that into the blocking, I'm going to start wearing steel-toed sandals."
He'd make it work somehow.
Re: Rehearsal - Blocking
Not that he was necessarily right, but that isn't what he'd say.
"Generally, people deliberately doing something like that are a lot more gentle than when it happens accidentally. But if you're really against it..."
