Spring Parents' Weekend Brunch | Sunday Morning to Afternoon | The Park

Another successful weekend of avoiding angry and confused parental figures and listening to radio with a broad smile on his face and a tub of popcorn at his side meant Barney was happy to oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park.

Ah, but the morning was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim. With el presidente and the rest of the student council taking care of friends and family, it was up to Barney to make brunch happen. Amazing what an iPhone could do these days, like make tents, chairs, and tables of blue and gold appear all around the park along with tables of hot and cold cuisine perfect for what anyone might expect of brunch. Apparently there was an app for that.

And now for the sitting, chatting, and eating. Today was the day when everyone would say goodbye and flee the island, leaving the land peaceful once more. Barney thought it was a lot like what happened after invasions, just with less blood and goop on the streets.

[OCD UP. Have at, bbs!]

"Which time?"

Timelines, Bobby. Timelines.

They all did sort of have this habit of declaring they were LEAVING FOREVER (...or dying, which was usually slightly less deliberate) and then eventually coming back.

"About when Magneto took over the school." Which was after Bobby was supposed to have graduated, and yet here he was, still a teenager. Enjoy that headache, Scott.

Yes. Yes, that headache was... he was rubbing at it right now. Metaphorically speaking. Literally speaking it was his forehead right over the visor. "Of course it was," Scott said, recovering like a champ. "It's been a while since you looked that much like a kid."

Jury was out on 'acting', ladies and gentlemen.

"It's been a while since you- well, no, you mostly look the same. Except for all the gray hair of course...." he mused.

Cue the blank visor look. Love it. Cherish it.

"Am I going to regret asking after your schoolwork?" Scott asked, ignoring him, and once it dawned on him he should... probably do something Parents Weekend-y.

Like figuring out whether he should lecture Bobby on not spilling anything about certain redheaded children.

Bobby wrinkled his nose at him. "What are you, my dad now?" Even if the vaguely-parental concern was kind of... nice... given his actual parents' complete lack of interest. Not that he would ever, ever admit such a thing in a million years. "I'm doing well in my classes." Except for that time Steve yelled at him for accidentally starting a food fight with Emmma... "Taking Accounting by correspondence, even." So that he'd have some actual marketable real-world skills beyond "beating up supervillians".

"You're decades younger than me at the moment," Scott told him. Because that proved something, clearly. "And only just about to graduate." If he had his timelines sorted out about right. "What's the situation here otherwise?"

The more intel he got, the better.

Well, he had a girlfriend who was not evil or Lorna or tied to the Japanese mafia, but that was probably not what Scott meant.

"We had alternate-universe children from the future show up a few weeks ago," Bobby supplied. "We get invaded a lot, actually. I think this island's a bit of a trouble magnet." Not entirely unlike wherever the X-Men happened to be staying at any point in time...

"I've heard about that," Scott said. One of many reasons why he thought Nathan had made a bad call in settling here, and--

Dammit, Jean. Nathan was not 'settled down'.

"How frequent is it? Any major damage?" (Though he'd be somewhat mollified hearing about the girlfriend. That would close off at least one potential huge safety issue... Drake.)

"Every couple of months or so?" Bobby hazarded. "The last time there were goblins, and the geography of the island sort of... changed." He frowned a little, because there were some superficial similarities to a rather recent (from Bobby's perspective) incident back in New York, now that he thought about it. "Not N'Astirh's work," he added. "There weren't any carnivorous hot dog stands this time."
