Parking Lot ; Monday Afternoon

Riley had, naturally, been a little concerned about his car once everything on the island seemed to be settling down. He hadn't gotten a chance to get out of the parking lot until just now and, when he saw that his darling car was all right, he breathed a deep sigh of relief.

He ran a hand over the car's curves reverently (and not at all creepily) before he jumped into the driver's seat and gripped the steering wheel. He was really, really gonna have to take a joyride and soon. His car hadn't been used enough since he'd gotten to the island. It was really just too bad the roads here were too narrow because his car would tear up the curves and dips.

For now, he was content just sitting in his car and relaxing.

[Open post, of course, if other people have a reason to be in the parking lot. He just missed his car.]

Oddly enough, there was someone else using the parking lot, that day. An orange charger pulled up, and Eliot got out, surveying the island with his customary scowl.

It'd been awhile, but he was pretty sure last time he was here, Baltimore didn't have its own quaint little French island town, complete with castle.

"What?" Oh, and now he looked unhappy to be talking to people.

Don't worry, Riley. That was really just his default expression.

He looked over Riley and his (really quite nice) car, and shook his head faintly. "You know you're supposed to drive one of those, right? Not just sit in it."

"Who the hell builds a town these days with roads that can't fit cars?"

Actually, the idea kind of appealed to Eliot. But the question still begged to be asked.

"That is some kind of tourist trap," Eliot decided. "They sell tickets to this place or something?"

"Not in this country," Eliot said. "This country doesn't do small."

"It means the same thing," Eliot said grumpily.

Grumpilier.

Or something.

"You live here?"

"It's a damned island castle in Maryland. Bears checking out."

"What?" Riley bought himself yet another scowl with that one. "No! A guy can't just be curious about a damned island castle?"

"You kidding? You can just drive right up to this lot." Eliot shook his head. "What, is it invisible most of the day or something?"

Eventually, Eliot would come to realize that this wasn't as preposterous a proposition as he thought. It'd be nice to think that he'd then apologize to Riley for getting his grumpy all over him, but that wasn't likely to happen.

Eliot shrugged. "You've been to Figgatewell, too?"

Funny, he didn't seem like the sort to end up in a tiny south Pacific oligarchy.

"Tiny south pacific oligarchy," Eliot said. "Three legged dogs, girls with beards, guys with tails, overthrew its European government about . . . ten years ago?" That'd been a good revolution. Too bad about the oligarchy. "It's not really important."

"The hell do you teach at a castle?"

That was not how you did introductions.

"I'm Eliot."

A little better.

"Why would anyone take a class on --" Right, Hardison. "Okay, then. Nice to meet you, too."

"Kinda figured I'd just wander around." He'd come because he'd just found a random island in the middle of a place he didn't know there was an island. He hadn't really planned much, here. "Maybe find a bar."

Walking shoes. Eliot wore boots, like a real man.

"I'm not afraid of stairs."

Eliot nodded. "Good to know. Have fun fondling your car."
