The Beach, Friday Evening

A new Friday, a new change of scenery. Tamsin had hoped for somewhere else that stocked booze, but thankfully, she'd had the foresight of getting a whole bunch of it from the Restaurant before they moved this morning.

It was Friday evening, and Mobius's sun hung low in the sky, but it was warm, and there were birds chirping as they flew past Fandom's dome. Perfect atmosphere or whatever. There were large, glittery umbrellas dotting the sand for effect, a bunch of chairs and tables arranged just a few feet away from the sandy parts of the beach, and a few grills were cooking away meat and veggies for the incoming guests.

Fandom beach party. This would definitely end well.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

Lucille nodded. "I would like that," she said.

She was quickly running out of money in Fandom. Coats, dresses, and now possibly musical instruments. It would make practicing easier though.

It would! And anyway, Jono wasn't actually aiming to make a sale, necessarily.

//You can feel free to stop by at any time to give them a test run,// he shared. //Or borrow them for things like this, if you want. You don't have to make a purchase, either. I know the decent ones aren't exactly inexpensive.//

"That is very kind of you. Lucille couldn't decide how she felt about a generous offer like that. It made her oddly nervous.

Jono gave his shoulders a shrug.

//If you'd rather not borrow, you can rent,// he said, easily. Not that he was picking up on that unease, per se, but he could tell when somebody was the sort of person to not trust anything that seemed too good to be true. //We have student rates, actually, but I thought I would make the offer first, since Hannibal is giving you lessons and all.//

"I didn't mean to be ungrateful," Lucille said hastily. "I was just surprised. But I would very much like to try one."

//Well, I'll tell you what... How about we see if you like them before we worry about any of the rest of it, then?// Jono gave her a faint smile, aiming for 'reassuring.' //There's really no hurry on the rest of it. Come on into Groovy Tunes any time, and we'll pull one out for you to try.//

"I will visit your shop," Lucille agreed. She couldn't see why she would turn down a possibility to practice on her own.

//Ah...// Jono blinked up at Lucille, tilting his head a bit. But he had finished the last song, and he'd been about to start one anyway. //Sure. Anything in mind? Or should I just play whatever jumps to mind?//

"I'll be happy to hear what ever you feel like playing." A solo guitar was a lovely instrument, after all.

Jono nodded, considering his audience for a moment. And then, of all things, he chose Metallica.

Because sometimes, that was a choice he felt confident in sharing with the island's more classical-minded residents, yes. He wouldn't be able to do the vocals, of course, but this one would stand just fine on its own without them.

Lucille listened in silence and it wasn't until he had finished the song that she spoke.

"That was beautiful. Is it a song from this time?"

[Perfect choice! :D]

//From about twenty-five years ago,// Jono admitted, //but it's one of the ones I always enjoyed while I was younger. It's Metallica's Nothing Else Matters.//

There was a pause, and then he added, a little tentatively, //Most of their music is much faster, and louder. But sometimes, metal music can be startlingly melodic.//

Jono actually projected a little bit of amusement at that, and then shrugged his shoulders.

//That's not necessarily far off,// he admitted. //A lot of metal music is hard, and fast, and loud, and angry.//

//Absolutely,// Jono replied, settling in to play some more. He was in it for the long haul tonight. He'd be all too happy to continue to play. Especially for an audience who appreciated the music.

And hell, he'd even play more Metallica.

Another beautiful and sad melody, and the way music often did it made Lucille fall silent and pensive. She thought of her brother and how much she would like him to be here and share this particular moment with her. Even when the song was over she said nothing, but her eyes looked sad.

And Jono really couldn't miss that one, no.

//Another,// he offered, gently, //or should we take a break from these ones for now?//

It was kind of like an offer, if she wanted to talk about it. A very open-ended one, the sort that didn't expect an answer if one wasn't forthcoming, but was willing to be an open ear if she needed one.

He got a weak smile in reply, then Lucille said: "I would very much like just to listen. Do you mind playing more?"

No, she wouldn't talk, but at least she felt safe enough to stay.

And Jono could appreciate that. He gave his head a shake.

//I never mind playing more,// he promised, and then he settled in to keep playing. For as long as he had an audience, he'd be happy to do so.
