Dite's Decadent Delights, Wednesday

Not even an adult entertainment and sexual health store was immune to some of Fandom's weirder effects. Kathy had come into work to discover the DVDs were in some kind of turf war with the novels. She tried to break it up several times, but as soon as her back was turned, one or the other would launch an attack, which mostly seemed to involve literally piling up on the other side.

Eventually, Kathy just gave up and went behind the counter to practice her guitar. She'd let the two sets of merchandise get it out of their systems and then clean up when they were done. Honestly, as far as weird went, she was getting off ~~not-dirty~~ pretty lightly and she knew it. Considering what was on her shelves, this could have been way more embarrassing.

"Somebody hungry?"

That was Dante leaning into the doorway with a pizza. Yep.

"Is it you?" Kathy teased, dimples deep as she glanced up. "But also me, so I'm hoping that pizza is for sharing."

In fairness, Kathy could usually be counted upon to be hungry.

"Please, it's veggie," Dante said, slipping into the store. "Like I'd touch that shit."

"It wouldn't kill you if you did," Kathy protested, setting her guitar aside so that she could open her arms wide--for the pizza.

Look, she was a hungry superball, okay?

"One day we're going to be trapped somewhere that only has vegetables and you're going to starve to death."

"Nah, you'll eat the vegetables, and I'll have clam," Dante said, smirking as he passed the box on.

That was her classy boyfriend. Not that Kathy could say she wasn't charmed, which was even worse.

"Dante, even you can't live on clam alone," she informed him. "...We'll need to make sure Anders is there, too, so you can round out your diet with sausage."

Aw, that was his girl.

Dante snickered and leaned over to press a kiss against her mouth. "Don't be a crude asshole," he said.

Kathy kissed him right back, nipping his lower lip as she pulled away. "What, don't want me stepping in on your turf?" she asked.

"Hey, it's an island, plenty of seafood," Dante sniffed, "Crude fuckin' names for genitals got no part in this."

"Oh dear, I'm dreadfully sorry," Kathy said, giving him an exaggerated apology face. "I can't believe I'd be so crass to have dragged the conversation away from fine dining down to sex. Truly, I am ashamed."

"As you should be," Dante said, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead. "How's business?"

You know. In the sex store.

"You're my first in-person customer this month!" Kathy said, waving her hands. "Ta-daaa! Can I interest you in actually being a paying customer, or would that be considered pushing my luck?"

Thank god for the internet or Kathy might be in danger of bankruptcy. On Fandom, of all places.

"I do have an employee now? So that's exciting."

"Oooh, who?" Dante said, glancing past her into the aisle.

"Reno--do you remember him? He was a teacher of mine back when I first started Fandom, but I don't know if he was around when you first started," Kathy said, opening the box and helping herself to a slice. "You'd like him. He's a smart-mouthed shit-stirrer."

One who did his best to flip off authority figures, even while being an authority figure.

"Don't remember if you ever saw it, but he gave me my Thunder Materia years ago."

"Really, teacher Reno?" Dante said. He snorted softly. "You got power now, Kat."

"Cause I'm the boss?" Kathy asked, then snorted. "Sure. Just as much power as your boss has with you."

Possibly less, because Dante at least liked Jono's guitars.

"You have the power to fire him," Dante pointed out sagely.

"I'm sure he will utterly care," Kathy said, laughing. "C'mon, what would your reaction be if Mr. Starsmore threatened to fire you?"

"I'd walk out but I'd have less money and less guitars," Dante mused.

"I'm pretty sure Reno makes stupid amounts of money at his other job," Kathy said. Which was probably being a contract killer, or, at the very least, a fixer. "And he can just buy sex toys online like everybody else."

"God, you suck at this," Dante said, shaking his head. "C'mon, Kathy."

"Power over people isn't my bag," Kathy said, shrugging.

Then she looked at him and smirked. "Most of the time, anyway."

Dante poked her in the side. "I was gonna say," he said. "He workin' good at least?"

"I mean, he volunteered to work on Saturday, which means I don't have to," Kathy said, grabbing another slice of pizza and ignoring that poke.

She never won their poke-battles. So sad.

"So even if he does nothing else in the store, he's my favorite."

"So does that mean we get lazy Saturdays?" Dante said, grinning. "Awesome."
