Dite's Decadent Delights, Wednesday

Not even an adult entertainment and sexual health store was immune to some of Fandom's weirder effects. Kathy had come into work to discover the DVDs were in some kind of turf war with the novels. She tried to break it up several times, but as soon as her back was turned, one or the other would launch an attack, which mostly seemed to involve literally piling up on the other side.

Eventually, Kathy just gave up and went behind the counter to practice her guitar. She'd let the two sets of merchandise get it out of their systems and then clean up when they were done. Honestly, as far as weird went, she was getting off ~~not-dirty~~ pretty lightly and she knew it. Considering what was on her shelves, this could have been way more embarrassing.

"I'm pretty sure Reno makes stupid amounts of money at his other job," Kathy said. Which was probably being a contract killer, or, at the very least, a fixer. "And he can just buy sex toys online like everybody else."

"God, you suck at this," Dante said, shaking his head. "C'mon, Kathy."

"Power over people isn't my bag," Kathy said, shrugging.

Then she looked at him and smirked. "Most of the time, anyway."

Dante poked her in the side. "I was gonna say," he said. "He workin' good at least?"

"I mean, he volunteered to work on Saturday, which means I don't have to," Kathy said, grabbing another slice of pizza and ignoring that poke.

She never won their poke-battles. So sad.

"So even if he does nothing else in the store, he's my favorite."

"So does that mean we get lazy Saturdays?" Dante said, grinning. "Awesome."

"All Saturdays get to be lazy now," Kathy said, unable to not grin back. "Finished my EMT class, I get the weekends off, what am I even going to do with all this free time?"

"I know one answer is blond," Dante said, grinning.

"You know my favorite part of that answer?" Kathy asked. "It's only one."

And on especially good days, she got two.

"I know you're a girl who likes a little variety in her answers, what can I say," Dante said, shrugging oh so idly. "... And we can finally have a second weekly movie night."

"You know this is my excuse to finally show you all those animated movies from my childhood that I've been waiting to share, right?" Kathy asked. "And every 80s fantasy flick that ever used a puppet is fair game."

"There's more of those?" Dante asked, blinking.

"So many more," Kathy said with a giant grin. "Oh god, so many. Like the one with the prince in space and his weird weapon, and the one with the little people and the baby, and the one about the giant crystal, and..."

She could absolutely keep going, yes.

"How?" Dante said, dropping his head. "How?"

"Because the good lord loves me and wants me to be happy," Kathy said, clasping her hands beneath her chest and gazing rapturously to the heavens.

Or at least her ceiling.

"I can't believe people bought into that shit," Dante said. "... Or bought into it for any other reason than those tight fucking pants."

"You shut up about my sexual awakening," Kathy said, hands on her hips. "I also wanted the dress, the soundtrack, and all her friends."

Look, how many times had tiny!Kathy dreamed about running away to a magical world where everybody wanted to be her friend and the hot magical guy fell in love with her?

So many.

...Wait a minute.

"Her friends were total shallow assholes," Dante pointed out.

"How dare you," Kathy declared, wishing she had pearls she could clutch dramatically. "They all learned valuable lessons about true friendship and I will throw down over how good a friend the big shaggy guy was."

"Why did they have to learn the lessons in the first place?" Dante sighed. "That's some bullshit."

"Being a good friend is hard," Kathy said, with a wry shrug. "Even when you think you already have a handle on it."

"They're still dumb fucking movies," said Dante, who had secretly totally enjoyed all the camp.

"Right, because you totally weren't into it at all," Kathy said, rolling her eyes. "And I definitely didn't hear you humming the soundtrack or anything."

"It's really close to this one technopunk song that came out a month ago," Dante defended himself.

"Oh?" Kathy asked, wide-eyed. "You'll have to let me listen to this awesome technopunk song that just happens to sound like 80s David Bowie."
