The Perk; Sunday Morning [01/19].
"Well, no," Summer admitted to the barista, "I don't know if it'll work, but it's worth a try, right? I mean, it shouldn't be too hard to make a latte taste like a pancake, without having to just, you know, blend a pancake right in there. Which isn't a terrible idea, either, but let's save that for the zero hour, and start simply. Maybe just maple syrup and...I don't know...oat milk? That's where we can start, and we'll work our way through from there ..."
And the resulting drink wasn't bad, it just wasn't quite what Summer was looking for, but she felt it was a good start and it would do for now, as she went to go find a comfortable spot to sit a little and work on her lesson plans on her tablet.
At least, that was the original idea, until she got thoroughly distracted shopping for cute winter boots.
"Ooh," she said, swiping through, "I am definitely ordering these for the store. And these. And thooooose...."
Because, you see, if she ordered them for the store, then she could put it on the store's account, and then buy them using her discount. Brilliant!

Summer looked up when Iris came in, meeting that Yo with a lift of her chin in response, and then waited until she at least had an order in before offering out, "How's it going, Iris?"
no subject
"Ain't so bad really," she said, leaning against the counter while the barista worked on her order. "Goin' a bit stir crazy at worst. You?"

"Sounds like most everyone were fine with the abductions now that they're over," she pointed out as she took a seat. "Ain't much point worryin' 'bout those that weren't when most of 'em ran away. And, hey, least the important things ain't space debris."

Her perspective on that sort of thing had been so skewed for so long that sometimes she really had no idea.

"That's the idea!" she said brightly. "Of course, I was expecting to have at least afew fresh brains to break, but I think I'll still have fun with the group I got."

"So is the goal breakin' 'em or is it preparin' them?" she wondered. "Or are you claimin' both for plausible deniability?"

She knew she had students who would never look at a banana the same way ever again, and she was only just getting started.
"Besides, they do kind of go hand-in-hand, anyway."
At least in her experience. She wasn't born this jaded, after all.

"And just coastin' by on reputation ain't seemin' like the sort of thin' you'd be unbored with for long," she noted.
Sure, that was a sentence.
"But what were that 'bout space debris?"

...This Summer definitely went with 'pick up.'
And maybe pick up others on her way, too.
But to Iris's question, she just waved a dismissive hand. "Had to blow up the jello shop," she said, not feeling really sure how much Iris even knew of what Summer's plans had been, but figuring it was a small enough town that bits and pieces would have gotten picked up here and there. "It's a long story, but I will say that it was definitely worth it, I'm just sort of....you know...banned in a good amount of that galaxy right now, so I figured, if I've got to lay low, I might as well do it here, until everything blows over."
no subject
"Well, it happens," she commiserated, "and it ain't like anyone here'll care that you're... a Jello outlaw."
Then she laughed.
