The Bookbelt | Monday
So.
Like. It had been awhile but Nina didn't feel particularly sorry for that in any sense as she surfaced in her shop, eyed the dust, and then got to cleaning because, like, if nothing else, cleaning was something that needed to be done and...
Well, she had a lot of research to reflect on. And probably more books to special order in to further it because she had ideas but she hadn't yet decided if she was running down the entirely wrong path or if she was On To Something.
(And even if she wasn't, like, she had picked up a lot and also no research was ever truly wasted...)
Once she was done cleaning, and checking her socials (which honestly took longer than the cleaning), both of which were as she expected, Nina contemplated her work and her class options for the semester. Like, sure, she'd taken Ethics before but she was getting awfully close to that ugly, ugly word (graduation, for the record) and it was a chance to hang around Bus Dean...
Hmmmm... decisions, decisions....

He could whip up a couple of sandwiches and make sure his very-much-alive teenage daughter had something for lunch today.
Yeah, that second option was absolutely the better one, so here he was, coming in to the Bookbelt
totally on the same day it was posted rly."Delivery!" he announced cheerfully, holding up the bag he'd packed their sandwiches in.
no subject
"Are you sure it's for meeeeeeee????????????" Nina asked, beaming up at her dad from where she'd been reviewing her class options. "I didn't order anything!!!!!!!!!!!!"
no subject

And him, the Sheriff! Tsk tsk!
no subject
“Suppose we’ll just have to eat these sandwiches whether you ordered them or not.”
Truly a great sacrifice you were making in the name of keeping your Dad on the straight and narrow, Nina!
[stg if this ends up being a double-post *shakes tiny fist at dw*]
no subject
She grinned at him. "We can't let it go to waste now!!!!!!!!!! That would be even worse!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Also, now that he'd interrupted her thoughts, she was hungry.
no subject
“What’re you up to?” he asked.
no subject
Nina was kind of terrible at attending classes but, like, she did care about which ones she was taking?
no subject
"Anything particularly interesting on the docket?"
no subject
"I'm honestly considering 'Fear in Literature'," she admitted thoughtfully. "Like, it would be fascinating????????? And, like, Ethics of course, because Bus Dean only has four semesters tops left with me in his class as a student-student and not an adult-student and I don't want him to forget me............."
She, ah, was that honest about motivations with... well. Dad was about it.
"And I'm pretty sure my brother and Noctis were drunk or something when they wrote the Chocobro class description????????? Though then I can't see why Iggy and Gladio would go along with it........... especially since if all three of them are here, what happens to Noct????????? Are they going to stick him in a box???????? Is he going to be sulking at the back of class each week??????????"
It was a mystery!
no subject
“Can I take a look?” Liam asked, curiosity piqued.
no subject
"Sure," she said, offering him her phone where the options were pulled up. "Like, I haven't made any decisions yet, you know?????????"
But while he read she was going to work on eating one of those delicious sandwiches he'd made.

Stark. Teaching superheroing.
Somehow he suspected there had been a bit of a mixup there.
"You're right," he agreed. "I have no idea what they're thinking with that class. Maybe... does Noctis have guards other than those three? Maybe it's a chance to let someone else get some more experience in the position?" A bit of a reach, but... possible? Maybe?
Or maybe Noctis was going to show up in town tending bar or something!
no subject
...
Actually, wait, Nina would love to see someone try to get him up and active enough for that. Noct was not a morning person. She would also kind of like to see Iggy argue that getting up to go work the morning shift at a bar was, like, a princely duty. That would be kind of amazing.
"I mean, like, he's a prince, so he's got tons of guards??????? But those three are his guards, instead of his father's, if that makes sense???????? Like, they're the only three who are aligned with him as Noctis instead of Prince Noctis Caelum, heir to the throne, blah blah blah?????????"
Nina shrugged a little.
"Like, I mean, who knows????????? I'm not exactly a chocobro."
Being a girl and all that.
no subject
"No, it does make sense," Liam nodded. "Back home, my loyalty as a Companion-Protector was always to Da'an himself, not Zo'or, not the Taelon Synod, just Da'an."
He'd taken orders and performed duties at the behest of Taelons other than Da'an, at times, but his loyalty had only ever belonged to the North American Companion.
no subject
"YeH, so like, I imagine they've got a plan but as to what it is???????????? No real idea..........."
And, sure, she could probably snoop around and find out but the theories she could come up with without facts were, in this case, more entertaining!
"I haven't decided about their class yet," she admitted. "But don't you think the fear one sounds neat?????????? Are you going to take any classes????????"
no subject
"And not being a student, I don't have as many options," he mused, looking at the two courses that were being offered at the community center. "I'd like to think I'm beyond basic cooking at this point..." Which really only left the volunteering one.
no subject
Sure, Nina.
no subject
“You think so?”
He clearly did not.
no subject
On the other hand...
"I don't mind things without the adults though," she admitted. "It still bothers me a lot how adults get to arbitrarily lock us out of things but we can't do the same back?????????"
no subject
no subject
"If that adult happens to be a student they're allowed to live in the dorms," she pointed out, right back at him. "We've had thirty year olds and older living in there because they're forced to attend school while living in a teenaged body."
Radio archives were fascinating things.
"It's actually super creepy if you think about it?????????? Actual fourteen year olds being forced to live with strangers in their thirties and forties just because they happen to be physically deaged or stuck in a teenage appearance???????????"
Nina hadn't cared until adults started making age be an issue. Now she cared a lot.

"I'm not worried about me, and the island doesn't seem to have creeps show up, because some people would be totally into....... all of the possibilities? But it's still creepy even if they've been good eggs from what I can tell??????????"
Oh well. If anyone tried anything on someone who couldn't take care of themselves--she'd kill them.
Literally.
And she'd dare Dad to stick her in jail for that crime.
no subject
"Suppose whatever ends up drawing people here thinks the island would be a better fit than... wherever they're from." Particularly most versions of Earth.
no subject
"I mean, like, it's working out pretty well for me!!!!!!!!!!"
She had a Dad! Did he know how big a deal that was?
no subject
"Glad to hear it," he said, giving her that fond smile that those who weren't family never really got to see.
no subject
And now--
"Back to the important thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Classes!!!!!!!!!!"
no subject
no subject
It really didn't matter what he was going to teach.
no subject
(Though even he knew Fandom's classes were a far cry from what most universities expected to see on a transcript. Thank goodness for those
handwaveyonline classes.)"Have you decided how many classes you want to take?"
no subject
"Four, at the very most," she said meditatively. "And I probably shouldn't take that many??????????"
She was a busy girl.
no subject
"You've got a lot on your plate."
no subject
no subject
He worried, okay?
