The Bookbelt | Monday

So.

Like. It had been awhile but Nina didn't feel particularly sorry for that in any sense as she surfaced in her shop, eyed the dust, and then got to cleaning because, like, if nothing else, cleaning was something that needed to be done and...

Well, she had a lot of research to reflect on. And probably more books to special order in to further it because she had ideas but she hadn't yet decided if she was running down the entirely wrong path or if she was On To Something.

(And even if she wasn't, like, she had picked up a lot and also no research was ever truly wasted...)

Once she was done cleaning, and checking her socials (which honestly took longer than the cleaning), both of which were as she expected, Nina contemplated her work and her class options for the semester. Like, sure, she'd taken Ethics before but she was getting awfully close to that ugly, ugly word (graduation, for the record) and it was a chance to hang around Bus Dean...

Hmmmm... decisions, decisions....

The Bookbelt is Open!

[And OCD free!]

There was at least one person in town who'd jump at the chance for some day-drinking!

"No, it does make sense," Liam nodded. "Back home, my loyalty as a Companion-Protector was always to Da'an himself, not Zo'or, not the Taelon Synod, just Da'an."

He'd taken orders and performed duties at the behest of Taelons other than Da'an, at times, but his loyalty had only ever belonged to the North American Companion.

"It does sound intriguing," Liam had to admit.

"And not being a student, I don't have as many options," he mused, looking at the two courses that were being offered at the community center. "I'd like to think I'm beyond basic cooking at this point..." Which really only left the volunteering one.

Liam gave her an extremely skeptical look. He could blend into a crowd with ease, but a handful of teenagers was hardly a crowd.

“You think so?”

He clearly did not.

"Adults aren't allowed in the dorms," Liam pointed out. "Not past the ground floor. So anything that takes place there kind of automatically excludes adults by default, doesn't it?"

“You’re not wrong,” Liam had to admit, because it was a little weird, sure.

Did she really think he would, though?

"Suppose whatever ends up drawing people here thinks the island would be a better fit than... wherever they're from." Particularly most versions of Earth.

Well, he had a kid, so. Yeah? He kinda got the 'big deal' part.

"Glad to hear it," he said, giving her that fond smile that those who weren't family never really got to see.

"So Ethics," Liam recounted. "That one's a given, right?"

"Good a reason as any, I guess," said the person who'd never had any sort of formal education.

(Though even he knew Fandom's classes were a far cry from what most universities expected to see on a transcript. Thank goodness for those handwavey online classes.)

"Have you decided how many classes you want to take?"
firstofitskind: (eyebrow of disbelief)

[personal profile] firstofitskind 2021-08-27 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Hm." Approving or disapproving, that noise?

"You've got a lot on your plate."
firstofitskind: (leaning back)

[personal profile] firstofitskind 2021-08-27 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure," Liam said with a nod. "But it also doesn't need to be so full that it's hard to balance." Just to take that plate metaphor a bit further.

He worried, okay?
firstofitskind: (a small smile)

"I believe you," Liam said. "But as your Dad I'm always going to be concerned anyway."

And coming by with meals every so often to enforce a break.
