First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue - Fire Station and Selkie Lake, Monday

The firehouse was all ready for guests, cleaned as much as humanly possible and organized within an inch of its life. Which meant it was time for people to come in and mess all that up.

But, you know. Lovingly.

And just across the way at Selkie Lake, the food and the general mingling place was all set up for people. Because it was time for the First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue!

"Lovely memories to look back on," Watts agreed as he just sort of... folded in on himself to sit down. He then grimaced slightly. "Unless I suppose the police force is defeated in some sort of embarrassing manner during the tug-of-war."

Steven sat beside him. He briefly regretting not thinking to bring a beach towel to help protect Llewellyn's clothes.

"I'll love you no matter what the result," Steven said. "And if there are embarrassing photos we can delete them, it's no problem."

"There, you see? Continuing to put the 'Gentleman' in Gentleman Knight," Watts said with a smile.

Steven smiled at him. "Perhaps when we get home we should take a cool shower to help you recover from whatever the exertion turns out to be?"

"So long as that we is a promise for you to join me."

A bit more direct than he usually was in public, but then, their spot was relatively secluded.

"How else will you wash your back?" Steven said. And then, just so it was clear, hastily added, "That's a yes. On the promise. To join you."

"That is a relief," Watts said. "I should hate for- my back. To be neglected."

"Could wash your hair as well?" Steven suggested, shyly. Also quietly because they were in public, even if no one was immediately near them.

The look that earned him in response probably said enough even without the soft "Yes. Please."

Steven gave Llewellyn a private smile to show how much he liked the answer. "We'll put that on the agenda then, shall we? Very important, that."

"You are making me wish we were home right this moment, Steven Grant," Watts admitted.

"Could we leave quickly after the tug of war?" Steven asked. "I can't remember if there's anything else on the schedule you need to be there for."

"Mmm, no, that's it," Watts said. "The finale."

"So going home straight after," Steven said, nodding decisively. "No delays."

"Good thing we live relatively close by," Watts said.

"Dead handy," Steven agreed. He grinned. "Not the sort of thing to ask Illyana for a portal for."

"No, she would likely laugh if we did so," Watts agreed. Forgive him, the distracting thoughts of this shower in the near-distant future meant he missed that Steven had been joking.

That was all right. It wasn't as though Llewellyn's comment was inaccurate. "I don't mind walking home with you. I like having you by my side."

"One of my very favourite places to be," Watts grinned back at him.

Steven bumped their shoulders together. "Perhaps arm in arm, if you're up for it?"

"I think I could manage that," Watts replied.

"And if you change your mind it's all right," Steven told him, giving him a gentle smile. Softer, he added, "Have as much sugar in your tea as you like. Even if it's different from yesterday."

The reminder of their discussion the other day had Watts's smile changing slightly, becoming something softer. "You are wonderful, you know."

"Thank you," Steven said, smiling back to show he knew he was demonstrating having learned something the same as Llewellyn was in the process of doing.

Watts reached up to cup Steven's cheek briefly, thumb brushing across his cheekbone. His expression clear as his hand pulled away that it was a promise of sorts for later.
