Midnight Manor Boarding House, Tuesday Daytime
Marc's office was still there. Which was worth noting because he could make it go somewhere. But, yanno, fine. If he had to be in charge of the place might as well have somewhere to be in charge from. Somewhere that didn't involve inviting people into the private residence. (Which was entirely a concern for privacy and not for Watts and Steven's cat who still got skittish around strangers sometimes. Just so that was clear.)
Today Marc was at his desk and using his phone to try to look up information on buying and installing outdoor speakers. Midnight could do a lot of things but creating something electronic that allowed for playing music either on the roof or out by the grill was apparently not on that list.
Getting this done was on Marc's list because... it was getting warmer out and the residents would probably make use of such a thing.
What? That wasn't not a reason.
All of which meant Marc was in his office, regretting the choices in life that led him to try to navigate his way through far too many pop-ups on websites that sold outdoor speakers, and thinking a tiny bit fondly of the days when his annoyances came in the form of people trying to shoot him.
Out front the chalkboard sign had the usual note about rooms available for rent, along with one underneath it which said Come on in, office is to your right. Don't mind Marc, he has other facial expressions, we promise.

fondsmile on her face that certainly had nothing to do with Marc and certainly required no commentary or return."Hey, Marc, got a minute?" she asked.

"Yeah, what's up?" He motioned for her to have a seat if she wanted.

She pulled out a banker's check for a little over a grand and pushed that towards him. "That's pretty much everything I've managed to save in my bank account so far, except a little left to pay for my phone and food and stuff. And the library pays me $25 an hour, so if I can work eight hour shifts or maybe pick up a second shift on another day, I can pay you seven hundred a month. I know that makes more bookkeeping for you though, so I wanted to see if you'd be okay with me getting a jump on rent in the fall?"
She didn't exactly know how much it was, but she was betting expensive.

(On the plus side? Arden was not talking to Marc about her love life. Marc was very much for nobody talking to him about their love lives. Steven being an obvious exception.)
Then the details started filtering through to him. So, in no particular order, "You wanna pay that's fine. I'm not taking all your savings though."
no subject
"But..." Arden said. "But once I start paying in earnest, that's gonna be most of my income anyway. So the more I put down now, the longer it is before I have to start to worry."

Harley already had a load of laundry going in the basement. It was entirely possible she'd come up here to steal more booze from his stash. It was equally possible that would have been her official reason had anyone asked. Ahem.
Anyway, there she was in the doorway, all bright and pleased despite her crushed dreams of stealing things from a deserted office.

He was aware it was probably the booze. Officially.

He was reaching for the open bottle of whiskey though. Checking to see if it was emptier than he remembered from last time, but reaching.

"Did I say I was disappointed?" Harley replied, flopping into the nearest convenient seat and making herself at home. "Now I don't have to even pretend to be in charge of anything but little old me!"
She paused for a thought.
"And the laundry I got goin' downstairs."

BD-1 gave a beep and a head nod as well, because that seemed like the right amount of greeting for Marc.
no subject
Or whatever BD's beeps counted as.
Though seeing the droid got Marc thinking...
"You good with tech at all?"

What she actually said was "Fucking hell."
But at least some of the proper color was coming back to her face now.

"Afternoon, Marc," he said, poking his head in to drop off said coffee before heading to the house.
