The Park, Monday Evening

Some would rejoice, others would cry, and a good chunk of Fandom's population would probably wind up with mixed feelings. This portal had brought the children onto the island but two nights ago, and now it had reversed the polarity of the neutron flow returned to take them back.

It floated calmly in the middle of the park's clearing, exuding a soft yellow light. It wouldn't steer the children wrong.

Say your goodbyes, Fandom... for the year.

Jason didn't exactly know what was happening when JJ insisted that he and Nico take her to the park, but the portal was kind of hard to miss. "What's this for?" he asked, even though he already knew. He'd been surprised to find JJ still around this morning, since the weekend was over, but he had a good feeling that extra time was done for.

"I gotta go home," JJ said, pouting a little as she squeezed her daddies' hands. "I'm gonna miss you. Even if I am gonna see you at home. It's not the same though."

Nico wasn't sure what the rules were on missing children he would never have, with boyfriend-types from other universes. "Just make sure you hug us lots at home. I think that'll help it along," he suggested, feeling a little dumb.

"Are you gonna be good?" she asked. "And stay away from the pool? And mean Percy?" No one was allowed to mess with her daddies and get away with it.

"Of course we'll be good," Jason said, since that seemed like the only reasonable answer. "You'd better be good when you get home too, right?" he said, glancing to Nico.

"Right, no chasing anybody with skeleton mice, no matter how cool you think it is." So not a way to make friends. Nico had learned that lesson the hard way.

"Awww, you're no fun," JJ said, but she was giggling and wrapping her arms around Nico's waist for a hug. "Take good care of Daddy. Give him lots of hugs and kisses."

How Nico wished he could tell Jason earmuffs and know he wouldn't be listening to the conversation. Really, Ethan had the right idea about how to get through life. "I think I can do that," Nico answered JJ, leaning down to give her a squeeze.

"Good!" JJ said, before running to give Jason a hug as well. "You take care of Daddy too! You can kiss lots once I go, right?" Because it was weird that they hadn't done that a lot with her around.

"Yeah, totally," Jason said, grateful for the height advantage that prevented JJ from seeing how red he was getting. "We'll take good care of each other, I promise." It wasn't lying, not really.

Even if the kid hadn't seen, Nico didn't miss Jason turning red. He liked the reaction if only because he fully intended to kiss him lots the second he was allowed to again. "I swear on the Styx," Nico added, pressing his hand to his heart. He knew JJ would understand that promise even if Jason didn't.

That made JJ brighten up, knowing that Nico really meant it. "You're the best daddies ever. I love you!" she said, waving and running for the portal. She didn't want to get sad all over again, and make them sad too. Besides, she had other daddies to check on. Who knew what they'd gotten up to while she was gone?

It was more weird than sad to him, but Nico watched her run off and then he grabbed for Jason's hand. "Wanna get a pizza and take it back to your room?" It was totally consolation food and hanging out.

A few weeks ago, Jason wouldn't have dreamed of holding Nico's hand. Now, he found himself not really wanting to let go. It was definitely strange, but he was just going to roll with it. "Pizza and my room sounds good," he said. "Especially since I don't have any classes tomorrow."
