The Park, Monday Evening

Some would rejoice, others would cry, and a good chunk of Fandom's population would probably wind up with mixed feelings. This portal had brought the children onto the island but two nights ago, and now it had reversed the polarity of the neutron flow returned to take them back.

It floated calmly in the middle of the park's clearing, exuding a soft yellow light. It wouldn't steer the children wrong.

Say your goodbyes, Fandom... for the year.

[[ up early for sp, and open to all. *hands out tissues at the door* ]]

"Hi Des," Tara said, with a question mark in her voice. She remembered him from last year, too. "I ... didn't know you were here. Did you --?"

The last question was aimed at Kennedy. If she'd kept her away from another child, she was going to feel guilty.

"We hung out the other night," Kennedy reassured her. "Him and me and these guys."

"Plus I was busy, lots," Des spoke up. Thanks to Dad he had a lot of new siblings to meet this time and everything! He was looking at Kennedy, but seemed to be drifting toward Tara as he spoke. "I gotta go too, but I wanted to say bye."

"Oh good," Tara told Kennedy, bust more of her attention was on Des. "Well then ... hi," she said. "And bye. Do you know me where you're from?"

Well now. Des could answer that, or he could not, because he sort of did, but he didn't, and it was all complicated because the rules worked differently in Dad's world than they did in Mom's.

But he knew who she was, so that counted, right? Des nodded hastily, and ran up to just give her a hug instead.

Like Tara could turn down a cute little boy who wanted to give her a hug, especially one who was half Kennedy.

"Have a good trip home, honey."

"I will," Des promised, disentangling himself to go and give Kennedy a hug too, but not before he whispered, "Take care of Mom, 'kay?"

"You couldn't stop me," Tara promised, and ignored the slight stinging at her eyes.

"Okay, good." Des seemed pleased with the answer; he smiled and stepped away once Kennedy let go of him. "Bye, you guys," he called, and took off in search of his dad.

Kennedy looked down at the twins. "Guess that's your cue too, huh." It wasn't really a question any more, which was a relief in some ways; otherwise, she might start wondering if they could just stay.

"We have to go home," Asher said gravely, as if he wanted to be certain his mothers knew he wasn't leaving on a whim.

Miraya was more impatient, as if pulled toward the portal. "We love you guys, see other-yous at home!" she said. "C'mon, Asher. Probably they miss us back there."

...yeah, Kennedy had to jam one hand into her pocket and reach for Tara's with the other to keep herself from pulling them in for one more hug.

"Duh, they do." Who wouldn't? These two were awesome. She almost said something about behaving themselves, but really now. "Go on, get home."

Other them had done a good job. How had that happened?
