Covent Garden Flowers, Monday
Yes Shiemi had been gone for a few days but that didn't mean she'd forgotten how weird Fandom Island could sometimes be. And today it was really being weird. Covent Garden... looked like a normal flower shop.
It had started when she'd found all the stock in place or as put away by the last shift. Then her quick tour of the store showed that nothing was missing and nothing was new. Nothing was the wrong shape or colour and all displays were properly set up, only needing a light dusting. The plants weren't talking or dancing or eating anything unusual (for them) and they all seemed to be in the correct pots and soils... even the fish seemed to be normal fish.
The windows showed the right views when the blinds were opened. The broom actually swept up things when she used it. The lights weren't odd colours and didn't give off smells or make music. The bell over the door tinkled like a bell should and only when the door was used. The register wasn't in some strange language or holding alien currency and the weirdest phone call was from someone who had asked if she would inflate balloons that were bought at another store.
Nothing. Was. Weird.
Shiemi was worried; had she come to the wrong island?!
[Open! Had to, sorry.]

He walked in, relieved to see everything was back to being vegetable, animal, and...well, plastic, mostly...and nodded to Shiemi. "Hi; how's everything going today?"
no subject
"Ah! Octavian-san!" Shiemi sighed in obvious relief as she looked up, the baby's breath falling neatly into place in the vase despite the distraction. "Thank goodness! I was afraid I'd come back to the wrong place."

Shiemi looked around too. "Because everything is normal. Can't you tell?"

He still wasn't happy about last week.

"Everything! Listen!" She lifted a few of the Lily of the Valley she was to add to the order, shaking them in her boss' face.
If he was wondering... the little bell-shaped flowers made no sound.

That gave Shiemi pause and then her eyes lit up. "Ah! That's true!" Her shoulders sagged. "Oh I am so relieved."
She added the lillies to the vase, feeling much better now that she understood the store was actually being weird. "Was last week really bad, then? I'm sorry I had to go home instead of helping."

"Ooookay. That is definitely worth a little normal-time." Shiemi nodded.
"So you're allergic to silver, the metal, Octavian-san?"
no subject
no subject
"Poison. Is it because of your spells?"

"Ah Sorry! S-sometimes spells have requirements, in my world. Like maybe you have to stop eating meat or can only speak in certain languages. It can also happen if you've made a contract. I-I've heard lots of stories like that from the exorcists who came to our shop."

He held up a hand, then made it short and furry. Then long and leafy, just because.

"I don't mind at allllooooooh!" Shiemi leaned in close to watch his hand. "How are you doing that?"

Shiemi clapped. "So it's not something you can teach?"

"Because it's what you... are?" Shiemi thought a moment. "You're not a demon, though."

Shiemi nodded slowly. "I don't really know what that means, but it sounds complicated. Why are you called 'shadows'? Because you can change shapes?"

"I've never seen you do that." She blinked curiously. "Does it bother you?"
