Shiemi had been up all night and so wasn't feeling very good today, but she was in the shop and willing to help with all your flower and plant needs.

Just... don't ask her about the report on Naiads she had yet to complete. She will possibly cry at you.

Shiemi stared at the list of plants included in the shipment today: purple loosestrife, leafy spurge, asian knotweed, drooping brome, scotch broom, and tansy.

While some were very pretty and she knew some of them had medicinal and herbal uses, they all had one other thing in common - they were all invasive species! "What was Octavian-san thinking?!"

She double-checked online to be sure, but she didn't think any of these plants were illegal. At least not in this part of the world. Just almost guaranteed to take over land and kill off native species.

What was she going to do with them?!

Shiemi had just come back from a week at home where she'd been observing a team exorcising a haunted house. Shiemi liked ghosts, normally, but these... Let's just say that she was totally not in the mood to put up with cranky fire-breathing plants.

She summoned Nii-chan and a moment later, the area with the new plants was enveloped in a shell of rowan branches.

"And when you decide you want to behave, I will let you out."

She really had to ask Octavian-san where he was purchasing his stock from. They were so ill-bred!

Sure it was almost autumn, but gourds as pots? Shiemi wasn't sure what that was all about, but they were kind of cute. And they would look nice with some of the fall flowers that were in the shop. She started to gather flowers to make arrangements for the last of the gourds but was interrupted... the delivery man had arrived with a large packing crate.

"Why does a flower shop need apples?"

"Ma'am? I don't question any deliveries I make to this place anymore." The deliveryman was skittish and kept looking over his shoulder. "Please? Just sign and I'll go."

Shiemi signed and the deliveryman ran out the door, not even offering to help move the crate from the center of the room. She kicked at it a moment, but since it didn't make a sound she figured the chances were good that it really was 'apples' and not some weird 'apple' monster. She looked for a note regarding a delivery of apples, but didn't find one so with a shrug, she opened the crate and began sorting them to be priced.

A sign soon went up:

Seasonal Apples for Sale

The monsoon was apparently fully over and the waters receded enough that Shiemi was spending most of her day mopping it up. It gave her lots of time to wonder why the store smelled so lovely... it was a slightly sweet mixture of spices. Maybe even apples? Cinnamon-spiced candied apples?

Covent Garden is open and smelling lovely!

It was still monsoon season in the flower shop, apparently. Nathan had come in after hearing about it on the radio, prepared for some kind of flooded out disaster, and had been met with a small lake.

So. His day was going to be spent moving the succulents to a table outside of the shop so that they wouldn't rot out due to all of the extra humidity. Bouquets were going to either have to be put on hold today, or be delivered damp. Customer's choice.

It was raining. Normally Shiemi would only be a little disappointed at this since rain helped plants grow, after all. And this was probably trying to help, but really? A mini-monsoon in the tropical plants aisle?

Shiemi had the section blocked off by sandbags and fans set up to cool off the adjacent aisles, and was flipping through the store's paperwork trying to find Octavian-san's phone number to ask about flood insurance.

Hopefully no one wanted any orchids, bouganvillea, or hibiscus today...

...

"Ah!!" She dropped the papers she was leafing through as a thought occurred to her. "I should move the jasmine over to that aisle!"

Yes Shiemi had been gone for a few days but that didn't mean she'd forgotten how weird Fandom Island could sometimes be. And today it was really being weird. Covent Garden... looked like a normal flower shop.

It had started when she'd found all the stock in place or as put away by the last shift. Then her quick tour of the store showed that nothing was missing and nothing was new. Nothing was the wrong shape or colour and all displays were properly set up, only needing a light dusting. The plants weren't talking or dancing or eating anything unusual (for them) and they all seemed to be in the correct pots and soils... even the fish seemed to be normal fish.

The windows showed the right views when the blinds were opened. The broom actually swept up things when she used it. The lights weren't odd colours and didn't give off smells or make music. The bell over the door tinkled like a bell should and only when the door was used. The register wasn't in some strange language or holding alien currency and the weirdest phone call was from someone who had asked if she would inflate balloons that were bought at another store.

Nothing. Was. Weird.

Shiemi was worried; had she come to the wrong island?!

[Open! Had to, sorry.]

Today was going to be a very odd day.

Anyone coming into the shop would find Shiemi on the phone trying to track down why they had been sent a shipment of weird looking fish.

Really.

Shiemi had a new book! Or rather, an old book. While home on a mission, she'd found a copy of a book called PLANT LORE, LEGENDS, and LYRICS. It was written using even older texts and stories and Shiemi may have been reading it ever since she got back to the island.

"Listen to this one, Nii-chan!" She'd found yet another bit to read aloud to her poor demon familiar. "According to a tradition of the Arabs, the Melon is to be found in Paradise, where it signifies that God is One, and that Ali is his true prophet. Sebastian, a Roman traveller of the seventeenth century, recorded that on Mount Carmel, in the Holy Land, he had seen a field of Melons which had been turned into stones by the curse of Elias."

She frowned. "Wouldn't a field of stone melons just be boulders?"

Though she was curious about the curse of Elias... whatever that was. Turning plants into stone sounded interesting.

[NOW IN TOWNIES and Open! Feel free to come bother her! She promises to not read aloud to you. Although it is really interesting.]

Shiemi was at a counter in the flowershop, willing to help anyone who came in. Please ignore the mess of dried flowers and stems and bulbs and... things... and the boiling water she was adding to the mix. She was a professional and she knew what she was doing and it was safe.

Yep!

Very, very saf--

She stopped muddling the ingredients a moment to turn back a few pages of the book on the counter in front of her and then used some smelly black grounds to create a small magical diagram around the mixing bowl.

Okay, yes. Totally safe.

Shiemi yawned as she moved through the shop today. She really needed to stop staying up so late; the research paper she was doing for her herbology course back home didn't have to be done while the moonflowers were actually were blooming.

Luckily the plants at the shop were being super nice and there wasn't a big holiday coming up. Ah, the phone...

"Covent Garden florists, may I help you?"

...

"No sir. Uhm usually they don't get sold as flowers; they're more a decorative plant."

...

"Yes sir. I understand Google says they are -"

...

"Yes, but sir. A hens-and-chicks blooms only when it dies, so it's not something you can really give to someone as a bouquet. Perhaps if I knew the occasion, I could suggest something?"

...

"... Ah. Uuuhm. I'm... afraid I don't really know what flower is traditional for National Chicken Wing Day. If I can have your name and number, I will definitely have the owner assist you with this. "

Shiemi stood in the center of the flowers, hands on her hips and lips pursed. "I keep hearing on the radio news and from the others that you are all behaving poorly and have even been attacking people. You should be ashamed!"

"Nii-ii!" Agreed Nii-chan, who was standing on Shiemi's head in a similar pose.

The flowers... did not reply. As usual when Shiemi was around. She didn't understand what was happening (she'd checked for demons and sprites and even gremlins!) but she believed her co-workers. Stranger things had happened to her, after all.

Shiemi listed off a few punishments she would exact they continued their behavior and then spent the rest of her shift splitting her attention between the flower section of the store and preparing an early monthly supply order for Octavian-san. They were running dangerously low on both tape and foam and were completely out of tiny flags, yellow ribbon, and crosses.

Shiemi didn't see a note about any holidays or special orders, despite the pretty bouquets that Octavian-san had set out. She also wasn't sure why the snapdragons were isolated. Well, except for possibly the fact that they were out of season? She'd have to ask.

For now, Shiemi contented herself with accepting a supply delivery and preparing orders.

Shiemi held off as many weird animals as she could and only when everything seemed to calm down did she dare leave her precious garden.

Or what remained of it.

She was at the Flower Shop now, though, Octavian-san! The store was closed, but if you needed something you could knock? She was buzzing around the store checking for damage and seeing what stock they had to replace and listing some things she thought that could be donated to help the town.

And maybe also a list of items to get the school garden back again.

When was the next supply delivery, again?

[Can be open, sure!]
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
The florist shop was open and Shiemi was there. By herself, though, so if you were looking to have some fun conversation with a cute little demon, you were out of luck. Shiemi was still too tired from Friday's trip to Dante-sempai's world to even bring Nee-chan out.

Sure she'd slept most of the weekend, but she'd used a lot of her spiritual energy as well as physical; being a Demon Tamer used up more than most other types of exorcists!

So basically, Shiemi was at work but doing as little as possible. Spring stuff was over there, lawn care and new bulbs were in the back along the wall; Easter stuff was still at the front, between the discounted Valentines and the approaching Mothers' Day items.

Just *yawn* wake Shiemi when you were done shopping; she will try to make sure you get *yawn* correct change.

[Covent Gardens is ooooopen!!]
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
Shiemi opened the store and did her usual cleaning and greeting of the plants in the shop. She had Nii-chan help her move the displays around. No shipments were due until later in the day, so when her chores were done, Shiemi brewed some tea and began looking over the papers she'd brought with her while waiting for customers.

"Who knew getting a phone could be so complicated," she muttered as she set about comparing plans and phone models and coverage areas. "Where is Borostyria and why would this plan have coverage there but not in Canada?"
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
Shiemi had the strangest feeling all day that she was not alone in the shop, but she didn't let that stop her from finishing the stock rotation and getting all of the YAY SPRING items into the front of the store.

"Oh my gosh? LOOK AT ALL OF THE CUTE SOLAR DANCING FIGURES!"

Shiemi finally found a nice place with enough open space that she didn't have to worry and set her things down. She began spreading a blanket. "I don't want to, Nee-chan. But I am going to have to let you go while I do this." She knelt and reached for her bag, pulling out the sheets of paper she'd been working on at the flower shop earlier.

"Nee?" Her familiar jumped from the top of her head to the ground to help. "NeEE."

"I'm worried, too. But I don't know if I have enough strength to hold you and summon anyone else." She was planning on only calling smaller golem-type demons but it was still dangerous. Demons were dangerous. It was hard enough dealing with demons for normal people, but a Tamer had to not only be stronger than the demon he or she called, but to have no fear and not lack confidence.

Sheimi shook her head and sent Nee-chan to gather rocks while she looked through the circles she had copied.

If the Tamer wavered at all, the demon could take over the Tamer or attack them... or run away into the world and cause troubles. Shiemi had actually seen this happen; Kamiki-san's familiars had turned against her and refused to serve her.

"That's if I can summon anything at all," She reminded herself as she set out one of the larger, simpler circles. Nee-chan helping now to weight it down with the rocks he'd found. She thanked him and then pulled a small piece of paper from her coat pocket and, with great reluctance, ripped it in half. Nee-chan disappeared in a puff of smoke. She hated doing that; even though she knew she could call him back, it still hurt.

"Now." She sat back, taking a deep breath, and reached for her book bag again. She could do this! "What was the summoning for Snowman?"

[open! She won't ACTUALLY summon anything today!]

Shiemi had seen the Easter sign on the door, but still marveled at the decorations she found in and around the store. She worked for the Vatican and lived just outside a town called 'True Cross', so she had knowledge of the Easter season and holiday, but she was apparently not at all familiar with all of it. This western version...

The eggs and the lambs she could understand but ducks and rabbits and chocolate?

She shrugged and rolled up her kimono sleeves. The first part of the day was spent tidying up and making cute arrangements, even if she didn't understand them.

...

...

And then she dragged out her books and began copying summoning circles. She was going to practice some summoning after work and wanted to be prepared.

Shiemi was at work. And had been since early this morning. She had never realized Valentines Day was so much WORK. There were still stacks of orders to get out, lots more to build, and a truckload of flowers for EASTER had just arrived and needed tending to, preferably not where near the shamrocks that were due in a few hours.

In addition, the phone was ringing off the hook. Apparently they were the only florist who could deliver to multiple universes and planets? Who knew: "Yes mam, I understand, but... No ma'am, I am not refusing to serve you. I would never refuse someone flowers."

One alumni in particular had in fact been taking up a lot of her time today with multiple calls and last minute orders.

"But... No ma'am, I understand you're having a special guest. It's just that those flowers together in an arrangement like that, they can act as a curse and... Yes they are very pretty flowers, but it's what they... No ma'am we definitely do have them on hand. and in those colours. No I don't know who you are. Ah. ok. That's a very nice list of names!" Shiemi totally had no idea who the woman was. "Well, what if ma'am came into the store to see the arrangement first? I could show you what I... Oh. An uncharted desert island, I see." Shiemi sighed and took up her pencil again and began marking the order. It almost felt like she was casting a spell already. "Then this fourth one will be for delivery?"

It was going to be a late night. The countdown to Valentines Day said:

And a huge handmade potato-stamp sign on the window said:

Untitled-1-copy

Shiemi was probably going to be at the store all night trying to get orders ready, so... yeah. Flowers.
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
Shiemi changed the Valentine's Day countdown sign

7 heart

and tidied up the front entrance-way before finally feeling ready to tackle the Dahlias mentioned in Octavian-san's note.

...

The dahlias were upset that the roses were getting all the attention.

~Aren't we royalty?~We, the Queen of the Autumn Gardens?~We are a symbol of an everlasting union, of elegance and dignity, commitment of one who stands strong in their sacred values.~We provide medicine and when there was nothing that grew but our tuber roots, did we refuse to let you eat them?~Why should that... that... SMELLY SHRUB! get to have a day in its honour?~

Shiemi listened politely through the whole rant, nodding in agreement at the unfair ideas people had about the poor dahlia. Finally, when they'd calmed own a little, she excused herself and went back to the counter for her bag. When she returned a few minutes later she asked Nii-chan to step back and began watering the still agitated flowers.

With Holy Water.

Shiemi left the cooler door open as the demon miasma started to escape the poor now-exorcised plants. "In about an hour, the last of the demons taint should be gone and we can repot them and let them rest under the sun lamp with some extra fertilizer." She scribbled a reply to Octavian-san about the flowers. "They did have a point, you know, Nii-chan. Dahlias are very romantic when you're serious about someone. Maybe we should make a few signs about the language of flowers and plants?"

"Nii!"

[OPEN POST! Come order flowers that aren't Roses or Carnations! Or a tree! That symbolizes a long commitment! Unless it's a pillow tree... that's a bit shady, if you know what I mean. *wink wink*]

Shiemi was still getting tingles when she went into the fresh-cut flowers cooler, so she made another note for Octavian-san. She doublechecked the rest of the wards, refreshed the soil in three shelves of live plants and dusted the fake ones.

A few more tasks and she was back at the counter reading. The Feng Shui book was still in the pile, but she decided to start on the swordsmanship one... Especially since the Gardening books were still slightly puffy.

The door had a "Countdown to Valentines Day" calendar on it and the Flower shop is open!
[identity profile] greenexorcist.livejournal.com
The flower shop was open! Shiemi was still not sure how all of the wards and protections that Octavian-san had put up worked... if they even did... except that she had felt a small tingle in her nose when opening the cooler where the fresh-cut flowers were kept. She made a note to ask him about that.

General shop tasks done, she was now at the counter waiting for customers and reading a book on Feng Shui for plants. She knew how to balance a garden, but a flower shop?

Flowers and plants. Shiemi couldn't do wrong with flowers and plants, right? Right. So she was determined to forget all the thing that had gone wrong recently and spend a wonderful day with her friends, the flowers and plants.

The shop was open and Shiemi was somewhere in the shop taking inventory and preparing a list of things to suggest Octavian-san should order.

"EH?! Is that...?! Nii-chaaaaan! Come over to the peony seedlings! Quickly! We have blight spores! We have to quarantine these poor little ones and check everyone else!"

Shiemi was in the shop today, but you may have to get her attention. She failed a test in Demon Summoning at Cram School yesterday and has to make it up, so she's a bit buried in her books today.

But if you choose to come in out of the cold, it smells of warm peppermint inside the store, there's tea ready, and some pretty winter wreaths (now half off!) are still hanging by the register.

A homemade sign on the door says, "Bet no one is getting them a hand-selected personalized bouquet for Christmas! Why don't you?"

Shiemi had missed much of what had gone on, but what little she had been here for... well.

Her paycheck back in the till, she had a whole bunch of flowers and plants set up on a table outside, and now she and Nii-chan were going to sit and pass them out to people for free.

Though she wished someone would explain why the large sunflowers were going so fast...

Sparkle just... couldn't. The island had gone back to normal, which meant that he could go home, eat like half his weight in pancakes and ice cream and shower until the end of days while playing C Is For Cookie on repeat until he lost his freaking mind, but he was restless. Anxious. Feeling kind of on the awful side.

The apartment would be quiet, unless Atton happened to come home, and he'd be left in the company of houseplants and he just. Could. Not.

So he'd made a detour from the park to the Demon Marcus with a mission in mind.

He was taking his betta home for the night.

Yep. That was all.

He was going to collect his fish, walk back to his apartment with it, set up the tank on the counter in the bathroom, and then shower for like three hours because he was basically never going to be clean again. Maybe he'd clean the apartment from top to bottom. It had been a few months since the last desperate bleach-the-whole-bathroom fiasco, he was overdue for another one. Maybe he'd just retreat into the living room and put, like, Peppa Pig on to play on Netflix forever and surround himself with houseplants and the fish and his stuffed cat and make a pillow fort and never come out of it again, and Atton would have to live life walking around a little blanket fortress and Sparkle would fight him for those couch cushions, dammit.

His face hurt where that other him had clawed at it and Sparkle was taking his pet fish for a walk.

No big deal.

Raven was desperate to do something useful, so patrolling the edges of the park for any trouble that might threaten the makeshift village within seemed like a plan. She was frustrated by her inability to heal any of the "hollow" she'd encountered, and she was anxious to get Karla back to Glacia and (relative) safety, but she couldn't teleport off the island. On top of that, she knew there was another her running around somewhere out there. Talking to herself was both tempting and too strange at the same time.

So far everything seemed quiet along the outskirts of the village. Whether that would stay that way remained to be seen.

The shop was crowded today!

With flowers. There were flowers everywhere. Shelves, floor, counters, the little table by the door... Speaking of which, how had they managed to get inside the locked store?

"Right. Bouquets." Shiemi rolled up her sleeves and waded in, finally making it to the counter that held the scissors, tape, and cellophane. "Nii-chan? Fetch me pink blossoms, please? Small and friendly. Like carnations, daisies, dahlias..."

Her familiar popped out of a pocket with a small chirrupy "Nii!" and gave her a small salute before wading off into the flowers.

"I wonder if we have some of the wreath vines left," Shiemi mused. "We could make baskets... oh!" She grabbed a marker and some paper and hurriedly made a small sign to go on the door:

"Bouquet and giftbasket making event today."

Maybe someone would come watch and buy one!

Shiemi read over her list again. The plants and obvious plant supplies she could get from her new job at the flower shop - or at least she could try. Apparently this shop wasn't as extensive as the one she shopped back home. Though that was likely, she thought with a soft smile, because they had become used to her grandmother's odd and detailed requests before Shiemi was even born.

The rest... well, to Shiemi they were obviously gardening supplies, but she wasn't sure where on Fandom to try to find manure, let alone frost cloths, black plastic, gravel, linseed oil, cleaning rags, a proper hoe and hopefully a scythe... should she fetch her hori-hori from home or try to find a new one here?

She also couldn't find a garden record book for the dorm garden, so she wanted one of those, and the small shed needed repairs before winter started. She wanted to clean up the compost pile, so she needed supplies for that... She sighed happily, despite the length of the list of things she needed to do. It was nice to be thinking about gardening instead of her Exorcist lessons. She was good at gardening.

She was going to sit here a while and enjoy the weather a little more, then go look at stores again.

She totally should have brought a thermos of tea.

Shiemi had a job!

A quick tour of the shop made sure all the live plants were okay and that all the cut flowers were fresh or replaced. She'd swept the front walk and dusted the windows and was now staring at a box that had just been delivered. Wreathes. Wreathes and wreath making supplies. There were vines and branches and dried flowers and berries and pine-cones and... "Dried fruit"?

America was a strange country. But doing her job, she soon had the boxes unpacked and was setting up a display to show them off.

She put the cutest of the pre-made wreathes on the shop door.

Blue-Exorcist-(125) Yesterday, Shiemi had stayed in the strange room she'd woken in. But today there was something funny-looking growing on one of the plants, so Shiemi had decided to take it to her gramma to figure out what it was. Because Shiemi's gramma knew everything about flowers and plants and she'd surely be able to make it better if it was sick!

But this wasn't True Cross, and while Shiemi wasn't really very scared, she didn't remember how she got here or where home was. And she'd been carrying the plant for a long time now and it was awfully heav... "Oooh!" Shiemi ran quickly to a small patch of wildflowers, setting down her plant to get a closer look. "Pretty! Ah!" She espied more a few feet away and rushed over, reaching for a stick to poke at the small patch of colour. "Those are yarrow, right? Ano... what are they good for, again?" She looked up, thinking... and saw a small patch of purple in the distance. "Oooooooh!"

And so on.

Which is why there is a lonely potted plant sitting in the middle of... somewhere and a tiny blonde girl in a rather untidy kimono running around poking at plants and flowers.

It had been really quiet last week with most of the folks with the school out of town. It had been peaceful, but given Peter too much time to think.

So today, he was back in the flower shop, poring through catalogues. The books Khadgar had brought in had mentioned a lot of different plants and herbs, and now he was looking up everything from mint to catnip to lavender to aloe and seeing where he could get them and how well they'd cultivate indoors.

If nothing else, the shop should smell great by the weekend.
