First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue - Fire Station and Selkie Lake, Monday

The firehouse was all ready for guests, cleaned as much as humanly possible and organized within an inch of its life. Which meant it was time for people to come in and mess all that up.

But, you know. Lovingly.

And just across the way at Selkie Lake, the food and the general mingling place was all set up for people. Because it was time for the First Responder's Memorial Day Barbecue!

"Not too many of the firefighters, I hope," Watts said, knowing full well where Steven's focus would be.

"There's firefighters?" Steven asked, grinning to show it was a joke and not an actual memory issue. He only had eyes for his beau was all.

And in seeing the response was a joke, Watts's grin grew wider. "It would not be much of a competition without opponents," he pointed out slyly.

"Hmm," Steven said. "Nice for them I suppose. I only have eyes for you."

"Flirt," Watts declared fondly, darting in to give Steven a quick peck on the cheek.

Steven smiled at him, since he knew what courage it took for Llewellyn to do that. "Looking at you is its own reward. Don't mind having excuses to do it at all."

"Mmm, what a coincidence, I feel much the same regarding you," Watts said, reaching out to brush some bit of lint from the front of Steven's shirt.

"Lucky me," Steven said, giving Llewellyn a warm look. "So what shall we do in the meanwhile? Always good to see who comes to these sorts of things. Meet new people."

"Get something to eat," Watts added, glancing towards the grill.

Steven had his priorities, Watts had his.

"I'm all for it," Steven said as he looked in that direction. "I'm peckish."

Possibly a bad thing to be if you were a vegan at a barbeque, but Steven could always manage to find something. Both in general and because everyone on the island was thoughtful that way.

"A man after my own heart," Watts said. "Or stomach, I suppose."

"Very much after your heart," Steven said, grinning. "I want to keep it for my own, you see."

"Oh, my heart is yours," Watts said. "Without question."

"All the other bits too," Steven said. "Just in case anyone gets any ideas during the tug of war."

"I don't know that anyone would, but I do appreciate the sentiment," Watts replied.

"Ahem." Steven stepped into Llewellyn's personal space, giving him a warm look. "I believe I've explained I would have strong words with anyone who tried to take you? So if anyone gets any ideas I want to be aware of it."

"How very chivalrous of you, my Gentleman Knight," was Watts's reply.

Steven gave a light tug on Llewellyn's tie. "Long as that's understood. I got there before anyone else. It's their loss."

"Well and spoiled me for anyone else, you have," Watts said. "It's simply not possible for anyone to compare."

Steven blushed. "Yes. Well. Thank you. Do my best."

"And I love you for it," Watts said, as they reached the spot he'd picked out.

Steven looked around once they got there. "I like it. Good spot for photos as well, I think. Pictures of the crowd, I mean."

"Lovely memories to look back on," Watts agreed as he just sort of... folded in on himself to sit down. He then grimaced slightly. "Unless I suppose the police force is defeated in some sort of embarrassing manner during the tug-of-war."

Steven sat beside him. He briefly regretting not thinking to bring a beach towel to help protect Llewellyn's clothes.

"I'll love you no matter what the result," Steven said. "And if there are embarrassing photos we can delete them, it's no problem."

"There, you see? Continuing to put the 'Gentleman' in Gentleman Knight," Watts said with a smile.
