Everything but the Monkey - late afternoon
"Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!" Dinah was peering down into a mass of seething, purring, squirming kittens, and trying to discern an individual kitten in all that mess. "What do you think?"

Finally, Chad managed to come up with a very helpful observation.
"There's a lot of them."
Well, that was what he thought.

Thankfully, it would seem that Prince Oscar Pedro had no problem reminding the both of them, letting out a long, objective sort of meow. Chad shifted, lifting him up off his shoulder and setting him down. Maybe he could sniff out a good one for them. He certainly looked ready to try.
"This'll be hard."

Some of the kittens were bouncing around and ignoring Prince Oscar Pedro. Some of them were actively avoiding him.
"Okay. Right. Girl kitten, I said I wanted a girl," Dinah reminded herself. Then frowned. "Can you even tell when they're this little? They're all... fuzzy."

"The employees probably know; we can ask one when narrow it down a little."
no subject
"Could you tell me, which ones are girls?" Dinah asked, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "We, uh." She turned pink. "Can't tell."
He laughed, and started pointing. "The two chocolate-point Siamese. The blue point there, washing her back. The two Birmans. Aaaand this lilac-point," he pointed at a little kitten staring at Prince Oscar Pedro.
"Mmrrrrrrr."

"I think they like each other," Chad noted. Chad might have possibly have already imagined them being best friends forever in his head in the span of about three seconds.

The lilac point was sniffing Prince Oscar Pedro's breath, inquisitively, whiskers quivering. She stepped back a bit, then leaned forward, tilting her head until it was almost upside down to look up at him.
Prince Oscar Pedro tilted his head back, looking puzzled, maybe.
Dinah started giggling, and the lilac-point turned at the sound and shot her an offended look.

"She is cute," he had to admit.

Pretty kitty did the head-tilt-upside-down thing, then padded forward. "Mew," she said imperiously. "Mrrrrrrrrrrr."
"Awwwww!"

The new kitten was now balancing precariously on her hind legs, front paws tapping Dinah's fingers with great concentration. "Mrrr. Meeeeee. Mrrrrrr."
Prince Oscar Pedro wandered over again, clearly trying to make up his mind. The kitten kept batting at Dinah's fingers, but turned her head toward him, her eyes narrowing. "Mrrrr?"

Staring.
Staaaaaaring.
Sta-- then she tried to pounce.

The purring always gave him away.

"Awww! Oh, poor little thing, was that a bad surprise?" Dinah reached over to pick her up and cuddle her close.
The kitten immediately went even more limp, closed her eyes, and purred like a baby race car. She might have almost looked... smug.
no subject
"She's not a bad one," he decided.

"We'll just have to wait until Teddy and Galliano get here to see what they thing."
Picking out a cat was a very invovled process.
no subject
"I hope they like her. And she likes them. They're going to be in such close quarters most of the time."
no subject
"Hey!"
no subject
"Hey," Chad lifted his hand and then, without saying much else (he was pretty sure Dinah would say enough in just a second, anyway), he nodded toward where Prince Oscar Pedro was leading the little lilac-point around the petstore for Teddy to check out.

"...Sorry about him."
no subject
"Galliano likes her," he noted.
"Galliano likes everything, though."

Dinah had barely said this when the new kitten had spun around, sensing something. "MEW." Back off, buddy. I'm the stalker! Not the stalkee! She tried to bat at Galliano's nose, mrrrring loudly.
Galliano appeared to Not Care.

"He might need supervision," Teddy said, watching to make sure nothing went wrong.
no subject
Hey, he just wanted to make sure he didn't end up eating the new kitten before they even decided on her.
no subject
"You're fine, you silly," Dinah cooed, picking her up anyway. "Awwwww."
"Mrrrrr!" The kitten turned over in her hands, and growled over at Galliano.
