The Park [Friday night after dark]

Ben had found a giant movie screen...somewhere...and had set it up in the park along with rickshaws and cardboard boxes decorated to look like cars. (On a carless island, you improvised when you'd decided you wanted a drive-in movie experience).

There was also burgers, shakes, fries and other drive-in food for those who were coming to see the cinematic classic that was ~~Fast and Furious~~ Quick and Angry 6: This Time We Have a Tank!

The weather was cooperating tonight, so the sky was clear. Come on out for a movie before the newbies arrive!

Grab food and a rickshaw or a totally realistic cardboard car box (they can fit two if you're trying) and chat with your neighbors before the movie starts!

Ben had brought so much food back to his (extremely souped up and tricked out because Ben) cardboard car that there almost wasn't room in it for Ender to sit.

Ender was probably not going to be the least bit surprised by that.

Ender had not brought a cardboard car because he knew Ben would take constructing his as some kind of challenge for his honour, so...

He just showed up instead, settling back in said cardboard card eventually and looking terribly amused.

Ben grinned over at him. "Are you going to pretend to be surprised by the ending?"

"Are you implying I've seen this movie before?" Ender asked innocently.

Ben poked him. "Well, you've slept through it a lot..." he said.

Atton showed up for the free food. What a surprise!

He didn't bring anything car-shaped. In fact, he flopped down next to a cardboard box with burger in hand and settled back. Hey, there were worse ways to spend an evening.

Well it wasn't like there was much else going on tonight. Cade had brought beer (because Cade always had beer) and was now sitting next to a rickshaw, looking bemused.

He'd heard stories about these movies when he'd been growing up, but he'd never seen one.

April was not climbing into a fake car, because she was a rebel (much like the characters in this movie). She collapsed a box and lay down on the flattened cardboard instead.

If anyone asked, she was going to say that her driving was terrible enough that this was just realistic.

"Your car is squashed," Cade observed.

"Unsquashed cars are boring," April replied.

"That's why I'm in a rickshaw," Cade said. "With beer."

Victor hadn't kept up with this series of films, but a brainless action movie sounded like the perfect capper to a week of doing nothing much.

He helped himself to a burger and two chocolate shakes, then sat in a cardboard box. Because apparently that was what one did at a fake drive-in.

Cade gave him a little wave. "Beer?" he offered.

It wasn't like he'd paid for them, so he could afford to be generous.

Victor squinted indecisively for a minute, then went with "Why not?" and reached for a bottle.

"Bad action movies need beer."

"It certainly can't karking hurt," Cade agreed. "There have been five other movies? Really?"

Sholeh and Evan had agreed that this sounded kind of fun (even if neither of them had seen the first five movies) and had decided to attend. They'd brought candies and popcorn (enough to share!) and settled into a rickshaw to wait for the movie to begin.

"Is this something that people often do?" she asked. "For dates?"

"They might," Evan replied, giving the rickshaw they were sitting in a thoughtfEul glance before shrugging his shoulders and turning a smile her way. "I haven't seen a drive-in one like this in a while, but I... kind of remember something like that in Kansas, I guess. I have no idea if it's something that's really there, though."

Unfortunately.

Evan was quiet for a moment more before he added, "If this is a normal date thing or not, I'm glad to share it with you. You look really pretty tonight, by the way."

"Thanks," Sholeh replied, instantly blushing, even though she'd hoped for this exact reaction when she'd sat down for Sparkle. "I had some help tonight. Sparkle was doing everybody's makeup and decided to ask him to do mine, too."

Where Gert was suddenly 'everybody.'

There's a blond guy and a guy with biceps, and a taller guy with biceps and they all drive cars that blow up a lot!

Also there's a tank. And a lot of homoerotic tension, if you notice that sort of thing.

The movie plotline, other than that, is totally moddable, or you can ignore the movie and be a person who is making out in a cardboard car. Ben won't judge you, but the squirrels might.

Ender watched this movie he always watched this movie: with his brain turned off as far as it could go (which wasn't far) and his eyes occasionally on Blondie whenever he managed to swagger onto the screen.

Sigh, the car movies.

Blondie kind of looked like him.

...huh.

"That's karking weird," Cade declared, cracking open another beer.

"...Are most movies this terrible?"

Because the world might end otherwise.

IF THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN FOR SHARKNADO, WE MAY NO LONGER BE ABLE TO BE FRIENDS.
