Ino was… so not in the mood for her regular schedule of work work work and then nothing and that, well, showed in her lackluster enthusiasm in even watering the plants. The only reason she'd even made it in to work was because, after yesterday's abject failure, she hadn't wanted to…

It had seemed like a bad idea to not keep to her schedule. Especially since she didn't want to be here.

Blah. Ino settled in her usual spot in Cable-san's chair and brooded. She had a lot of things to brood about, lately.

Upon his return to work, Alexander was pleased to discover that an excess of creepy cat statues had not been building up around the shop in his absence. Of course, after thinking on that, he realized that perhaps that had not been present because he was not there, and it was possible that they only arrived due to his being in the store.

...Alexander was just going to find a new, awful romance novel to read while sitting at the counter to get his mind firmly away from that prospect, thank you. And he was also going to wonder if staying with Wednesdays would work, or if he should request of Miss Lehane a new day to better fit his school schedule.

New classes meant William was quite cheerful as he opened up the store today. Not that he was usually the melancholy sort, but it was typically a reserved sort of cheerfulness. Today? There was almost humming as he worked on his research into antimony in his free time.

Angua was finally back after a long, long, long holiday in Ankh-Morpork, and she wasn't exactly thrilled about it.

Of course, that had more to do with the impressive mountain of paperwork that had piled up on her desk in her absence than anything else, though the noteable increase of vampire stench to the place was a contributing factor as well.

"Honestly," she informed Ralph, "I seriously doubt this much happened while I was gone."

Still, she settled in to start putting a dent in the mountain, though it was more like taking a cup of water out of the ocean, and she stumbled across the real reason for all the paperwork.

"Ralph, is this a novel? You know, if you wanted me to read it, you could have just asked, right?"

But for now, she was just going to set it aside for later. She figured she'd be needing a good laugh in about an hour or two.

Hank had originally been wandering the town looking for a comic book shop, but when he discovered Turtle & Canary, he fell in love. With profit!

It only took Apu being in the back room for a few minutes before Hank had thrown on a cap and apron, put up a new sign out front overtop of the old one, and taken charge of the register.

Apu was less than pleased when he came back out and Hank greeted him warmly.

"Aaahhhhh, our first customer! Welcome to HankCo.! How may I help you?"

The argument that ensued was long and heated, but it ended when Hank pulled out his trump card: "Well, you must be a customer, because if you're an employee, I don't see you working!"

Grumbling, Apu went to mop the floors.

One of Shelley's resolutions for the new year was to be a better employee, which in addition to making sure she was up to date on all the trends, included occasionally picking up a broom and sweeping the store. "Hello, Mr. Dust Bunny," she said to the fur ball forming on the floor. "I'm sorry to say I'm going to have to ask you to leave the premises."

She swept the pile into a dustpan and dropped it in the trash. "Don't worry, I'll be sending some friends along for the journey," she said reassuringly and turned to go sweep up another section of the store.

Jane had been sloppy lately. With the number of returns she had had to her world over the festivities, she had grown a little complacent at life. She couldn't have that obviously, so the first thing she did after readying herself for the day was go and open the store. She regretted that immediately, as a wave of books literally fell from the insides right on her, as if someone had made a very precise column -columns- of books in such a way that when the door was removed, they would fall. "I presume", muttered as she sat on the ground, removing books from herself. "That this is the store's way to tell me not to slack." She could take the criticism, but next time, a note would suffice. Picking up the books she could, Jane went on to order them around again.

Moments later the store was ready to go...although she felt like the walls were expecting her not to look so they could throw things at her. Fandom's crazy, it was getting to her.

Turned out the Sergeant wasn't actually around yesterday, so Kūkaku didn't get the chance to talk to her about the duel planned at the docks today, but she, a big fan of throwing caution to the wind and watching it burst into little itty bits, wasn't going to worry about it. What was the worst that could happen? With all the crazy shit that went down at this place, two consenting adults on the docks having a duel would hardly cause a blip on the radars.

Right?

Either way, Kūkaku was there a little early to scope out the area and twirl her blade in her hand to get familiar with the weight of it again. It had been a long time since she'd had to actually use the thing for a regular fight, but she was looking forward to it.

The twins, of course, were there and ready to carry away the battered Hook and his trashed pride once Kūkaku was finished with him.

It only took three days into the new semester before Jaina started questioning if she'd done the right thing by staying. She'd known that was going to happen, though, which made it a lot easier to suck it up and deal. And for her, "dealing" meant things like "more training." It was a tried and true method.

She ended with a run around town, and by the time she found herself on the beach, she did feel better. She slowed to a walk, using it as a cool down to slow her breathing and to take a moment without worrying about negative thoughts creeping into her head. And when she told herself that she could get through the next few months without a problem, she even found a place to sit and watch the sunset. Besides, if she started having doubts again, there was a nice big body of water right over there she could always throw herself into.

So Puck and Quinn? Were on a date. Nothing special, just two kids from Lima getting together for steak, Blooming Onions, and keeping a promise from the labyrinth. Totally platonic.

Or so Quinn would insist, anyhow.

"I think I might have to get dessert," Quinn told him, as a tray with something covered in hot fudge and whipped cream was carried past the hostess stand where they waited. "You'll share with me?"

Alex wasn't feeling too talkative when he arrived into work. He wanted to drink. When Tino tried to engage him in conversation, Alex sent him a glare and told him that his mission for tonight was to taste every liquor to make sure none had gone bad over the holidays.

Tino grumbled and started to actually do it. Alex was more than amused. Tino was going to be so drunk by the end of the night.

"Good afternoon!"

Dolf was sounding pretty chirpy today, though whether that was a case of genuine cheer or Trying Too Hard was a case of Eye of the Beholder. "Welcome back if you have been with us before, and just welcome if you haven't. If you haven't, we're the Magic Reserves and Support Services - I'm the head of Support Services, because I don't know any magic." Yeah. "We're happy to have you all here, though. It is a new semester, so new people, and new troubles. And a lot of new introductions, too."
Let it never be said he wasn't Genre Savvy.

"So tell us about yourselves and what you can do. I'll start," he added. "I'm Dolf Wega, I'm Dutch, I speak a few languages, like German--" both the medieval and the current variety, "French, and I'm learning Italian, I know first-aid and how to make sure everyone has enough food and drink and all that. I have been Support Services leader since the start of the last semester, and I spent some time in the 13th century."

One of these things was not like the others.

Raven had had another bad dream last night, this time a shapeless, nameless feeling of terror and despair, and the hint of black circles under her eyes might indicate her troubled sleep. Otherwise, she tried to keep her face and voice pleasant and welcoming. "I am Raven," she said. "I was born in a place called Azarath, though my mother is of Earth. I am the liaison between the Magical and Support Reserves, for my gifts fall into both. I am an empath and a healer -- if you are ever hurt, I am able to take that injury into myself and heal your own body."

Tara had a slightly anxious crease in her brow as Raven spoke. It wasn't hard to see things were not right with her friend, but she wasn't sure how to ask about it. "Hi, I'm Tara Maclay," she said, after a moment, "and I'm a witch, so, uh, I'm on the Magic side of the reserves. In my world, magic is a learned skill, and the kind of magic I do makes me a Wiccan. I know locating spells, shielding, some basic work with charms, a little telekinesis ... and I work at the Magic Box on Thursdays, so come find me there if you ever want a tour of the store or anything."

Karla also sent a sharp glance Raven's way but turned back with a smile towards everyone else once it was her turn for introductions. "My name is Karla and I'm also a witch, though my powers extend to Healing as well. In my world, magic is an innate skill of my people. I am primarily a Healer--of bodies, of minds, of hearts and the land, but basic Craft lets me do lots of other things, too, like shielding and calling in and vanishing items. I've been a co-leader of the Magic Reserves since last summer."

"So now it's your turn," Dolf finished up. "And have some cookies." He was too cool for more exclamation marks. ... Or possibly a little embarrassed, it was hard to tell.
