So Eric's weekend was going really well so far. Like, really, really well.

It should come as no surprise, then, that he was whistling as he bustled around the store today, wondering if he might not get a visitor after handwavily mentioning his shift to Marshall the day before.
[identity profile] notasuiciderisk.livejournal.com
So far, this was an awesome weekend.

His mother had stayed home rather that coming out -- Bart was here, she'd said in her email, but Eric thought he might just try to avoid his step-father. There were lots of hot guys on the island.

And he'd met another gay guy just about his age, and he was cute.

Eric fairly bounced his way into the Perk. On the one hand, he probably didn't need the extra caffeine. On the other, he needed to build his strength so that he could track down the guy's sister -- he'd said her name was Kate, and that she was a student -- so, uh. He could ask her what her brother's name was.

So they'd missed an important part of the conversation yesterday. Oops?

He got his order, a venti, non-fat, no-whip raspberry hot chocolate with extra foam, and sat down at a table to plan his plan of action.

It was still a good day to torment guests and locals alike and there was still plenty of food (courtesy of your Fandom High StuCO) in the Park, welcoming visitors to Fandom Island.

The registration desk was still open and the banner waved in the comfortable breeze announcing the event of the day.

Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2009!

Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.

Eric was spending the day going through the scarves; he'd realised belatedly that he didn't any for the new season -- everything he owned was from last season, and that just wouldn't do.

Don't mind the little gay boy, he's having a crisis of fashion. He's still more than happy to help you with any of your Pixie Dust needs!

"No, Mom, really, I'm fine. Things are going great here."

Silence, as Eric listened to his mother's response. "Sorry about that," he said. There was the briefest hesitation. "My phone died, and I was so busy with class and stuff that I didn't notice for a week, that's all." Or, y'know, he'd completely avoided her calls because she was getting... interested. Of all things. "I'll make sure to pay more attention to it from now on, okay?"

Pixie Dust was open; Eric was trying to learn how to throttle people through the phone.

[As with Addy in the clinic, I'm off to work! Back at some point this evening, SP is, as always, made of yay.]

Eric opened the store with a minimum of fuss, this particular Sunday.

He spent most of his time sorting through the new fall fashions that were starting to come in. It was never too early to start shopping for the new season, after all.

Chuck had the feeling that some people were looking to drink tonight so he made a point of opening the place a bit early. It wasn't too much of a hassle; he looked good, was dressed well and damn if this wasn't an excuse to show off both. Tino, or, Tina rather wasn't as lucky as Chuck when it came to the looks department when the genderswap happened. And Chuck wasn't letting it go.

"My god, you must be so jealous of me right now," Chuck said, hopping up on to the back counter and crossing his legs all nice and lady-like. "You look like a cross between Steve Buscemi and Ashley Tisdale pre-nose job."

Tino just pouted.

Eric had his script with him today, and was going over the lines he'd studied the day before with Jack. Still, he'd be more than happy to take a break and help you with your shopping needs.

Today was a hat day.

A new shipment had come in, and while Eric knew that, really, he should just put them on display, he couldn't resist trying on this one particularly fabulous hat. And then he'd liked it so much, he kept wearing it.

He wouldn't be surprised if you stared.

[As with the clinic, OCD-free and potential SP!]

Really, Eric should have known better than to risk it. Of course, that presumed that whatever had struck Fandom that day -- the evidence, no matter where he'd went, had been both unavoidable and audible -- would have passed him by in his alcove.

Fat chance.

Still, he hadn't expected quite what had struck him as he walked down the street:

Whenever life gets you down,
keeps you wearing a frown,
and the gravy train has left you behind...
and when you're all out of hope,
down at the end of your rope,
and nobody's there to throw you a line...

"Oh my god, people actually wear this stuff?"

Eric couldn't help but snicker as his waffle-maker looked through the bin of... rejected... clothing. "Not if we can help it," he explained. "Why do you think is there, and not on the racks?"

...if it wasn't enough that Tony had left for the rest of the summer, leaving the production stage manager-less, the island had decided that today, Geoffrey would be sporting a new fur coat in the middle of July.

The fact that he was a beaver inside of it wasn't too keen either.

That didn't mean that he couldn't direct, even if the strange honking grumbling noises he made weren't all that pleasant to listen to.

He'd only bite if someone mentioned the Curse.

While the students had been completing their last finals, an NPC staff had been hard at work converting one of the empty warehouses into the site of tonight's dance. When the guests arrived this evening, they'd be greeted by a long yellow carpet, leading up to the open glass doors of the warehouse.

Once inside, they would find the space brightly decorated to celebrate the summer season. Gold drapes covered the walls, splashed liberally with glitter to make them sparkle in the low lights of the warehouse. Flowers were placed here and there, not overwhelming but definitely noticeable and fragrant. Images of beaches, palm trees, sunsets, sunrises, hammocks, and other various summer images were being projected on the walls randomly.

A long table consisting of food and drinks was along one wall, providing plenty of sustenance for everyone for their long night of fun. Dark corners could be found here and there, of course. There was music playing and a disco balls projecting light onto the dance floor.

It was time for the summer dance.

This week, Eric was prepared.

... For what, he wasn't entirely certain; he was mostly entertaining vague thoughts of proving to Harper that there was absolutely no chance whatsoever of him ever, y'know, liking her. To that end, he... ... ...

Okay, so he wasn't prepared. He didn't have the first clue how to handle things, no matter the advice he'd been getting lately. Regardless, Pixie Dust was open.

And if you knew how to get rid of crazy stalkers, you'd probably get a 50% discount.

"We've been doing this a couple months now," Tyler said abruptly once the group was gathered. Ghani stood at his side, laughing at some private joke. "It's evaluations day so we can see who's moved up a level, who's stagnant, and who's getting worse."

He gestured to the mats. "Beginners there, intermediates there, advanced there. We're going to lead you in some totally handwavy exercises. Try to follow along. Next week we'll have new rankings."

"While your group isn't sparring, you're free to finds your own matches. Now, beginners? Let's get to it."

Eric was there for his shift when it started on Sunday -- in fact, he'd been there most of the day before, and all night. Because he'd been a mouse.

It was not that long into the scheduled start of his shift when he was, suddenly, no longer a mouse. ... And decidedly lacking in clothes. "That motherfucking son of a bitchface whoremonger," he swore, the minute he could speak again. He started to daydream gleefully of what he might learn to do with a sword, should Arthur continue to give him lessons, as he began grabbing clothes for himself. He'd mark down his purchases with a note of explanation for Romeo, and bring the money by on his next shift.

Unbeknownst to him, whether through human error or some vagary of Fandom, the door was unlocked.

Karla waited for Eric to show up on their date. She changed after the Reserves meeting into sharply tailored navy blue pants, and a skimpy, shimmery silver top. It was more formal that her loose-fitting cast-offs, but wasn't one of the numerous gowns that the High Lord had packed. The outfit came with a long jacket that Karla carried over a shoulder; for one thing, it was too hot to wear. For another, the skimpiness of the top appealed to her.

She didn't think too closely about the reason why.

Eric stood at the cash in Pixie Dust today; that, itself, was rather like the previous week. This time, however, he was looking about two seconds from banging his head on the counter as he all-but-yelled into the phone. "I don't care if you don't have the address in your system," he said. "I'm here, and I can't be here if it doesn't exist, can I? Get that shipment here by 10AM tomorrow -- at not cost to us, we already paid for the shipping -- or you won't find any more business from us."

No, he didn't actually have the ability to follow through on that threat, but he thought he could probably convince Romeo if he tried hard enough.

Eric? Not terribly impressed with his crash-course in retail.

The shop is open, sure, but Eric's a little too busy tearing the supplier a new one to do more than ring you through. You're best shopping on your own.

[Third verse, same as the first -- leaving the coffeeshop soon to return to the land of no 'net, so you're best modding your Pixie Dust experience. I cannot wait for Wednesday.]

Eric had come into the store for his first shift a little anxious, what with never having had a job before, or even considering needing one like this. It wasn't, after all, like he really needed the money. The chance to be around the clothes, however, was something he couldn't pass up.

His first order of business was to check through the most recent stock and make notes about which suppliers they could stop dealing with, and which seemed to actually have some promise for providing recent fashions. He'd leave the recommendations for Romeo to look at when his shift was over.

It was late afternoon when Romeo ran into town to take care of some business in the shop. He hadn't realized until Toby left how much the boy really did at the store; with just Romeo and Jenny (and Jenny only showing up when the stars were so aligned), the paperwork and inventory were hopelessly behind.

He left the store lights dimly on as he plugged away in the office.

Marion and Tino weren't talking at the moment. There had been a fight over whose job it was to tape up the zombies this week. Tino was in the right here. Marion knew that but she felt like being stubborn anyway.

It was just the sort of evening that usually began with a disclaimer about strong personal convictions regarding a belief in the occult before fading serenely into darkness and the sound of frogs croaking pleasantly in the background.

It was also just the sort of evening that, by some twist of fate, would see a scary man in a skirt young woman in a pink blouse and a purple poodle skirt walking around after dark because somebody's boyfriend had forgotten to top off the tank of his convertible with gas.

Not that she minded much, of course. If she could find him, then the night would be so much better, wouldn't it?

After dealing with, ugh, kids all morning, Chuck headed down to the one place where he thought kids would never show up: the bar. He forced one of the zombies to let him in early and then proceeded to sit behind the bar and go shot for shot with Tino.

He reaaaaally hated kids.

By some act of Fandom, the weather was behaving itself. Any clouds or rain the weather forecasters had blathered about on the news seemed to have skipped over the entirety of Fandom Island. It was a perfect afternoon in October, just the right temperature in which to spend the day outside with pleasant company. Or even relatives.

A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. Myn still kind of had a hard time thinking of it as a date, but it was a good kind of confusion. The worries were easily squished and shoved out of the way.

He showed up a little earlier than the time he'd agreed to meet Eric, getting them a table but not ordering anything without him.

Which had nothing at all to do with not really knowing what was on the menu. Nothing at all. Really.

(for one, but open for your seafood needs!)

Chuck was very disappointed to find that his favorite pair of breasts bartender wasn't in Caritas this evening. Now what was he going to look at all evening? Well, he came all the way down here, he wasn't about to leave without having some fun first.

"Move aside, Rico," Chuck said, pushing Tino away from the bar. "I'll help myself this evening."

Tino started to protest but Chuck shoved a hundred dollar bill into his hand. That shut him up quite effectively.

Myn hadn't felt like attempting to cook, and Eric had been hungry too. As roommates, it was only natural to offer to go to dinner together and solve the problem for both of them.

"That was really good," Myn commented as they left the restaurant. "Thank you for coming with me, Eric."

It totally hadn't been a date. At all.

(up early for sp purposes, and so totally open to anyone...including any teachers who want to give out detention, after The Event happens. Eric totally modded with permission.)
