There was no bouncer at the entrance to the Community Center, all the better for any underclassmen to sneak into the night's festivities and pray that their own official final dance in Fandom would be half so...red. To be technical, the shade was rust.

Thankfully to the more practical among the StuCo Prom Committee, the Mars theme lended itself to plenty of starry twinkle lights and a decadant foggy mist rising from the dance floor that might just help the chaperones in their quest to look the other way when students got too handsy. That was really all that mattered at an event like this. Well, other than the food on hand and the ability for the punch to merge well with whatever spirits were 'accidentally' dropped into over the course of the evening.

For this was a night to be remembered! Even if all that stuck in the memories of the students was the terrifying spacemen floating around the giant papier mache Mars that dangled in place of a disco ball over the dance floor. Or perhaps it would be the fantastic flavor of the fiery fountain of cherry pie filling. Fake fire, of course, but the filling? Totally real and delicious. Even if it looked a little too much like fiery blood for some people.

Welcome to your 2012 Fandom High Senior Prom!

It was that time of the year again: spring break, with its travels to far away and exotic locales! Like Brazil.

Teachers and students had been asked to assemble at the causeway as per usual. Their portal would be leaving early on into the afternoon, so there was plenty of time to pack up your things and hurry on down to catch it.

So, the question remained: was everyone ready for some fun in the sun? Or was there still too much bodyswappy freaking out to be done?

Stay tuned.

So this week was beginning to get tiring even for Rebecca. Which meant sugary coffee drinks were in order.

Or it could mean she could just... stop having sex this week, but that was ridiculous.

So. She was here loading up on sugary drinks, at least in between rounds of being... elsewhere. Yes. And she was wearing a skimpy little outfit that might, very possibly, get in the way of her goal of recharging her batteries. You know. Maybe.

Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Welcome to your 2011 Homecoming Dance!

There were more glittery moose decorations than you could shake a stick at (not that the Student Council recommended shaking a stick at a moose) and the slight breeze from the crisp fall day was making some of the decorative maple leaves rustle around the many booths that had been placed in the park.

After you've had your fill of games and food, who wouldn't want to throw a ball or a pie at Jamie Madrox? And other people, of course, but mostly Jamie!

Ramona didn't do it often, but girl knew how to throw a party. Granted, at the age of seventeen, she hadn't been to a ton of college parties, but she'd been to enough to emulate them effectively.

She'd gotten to the beach early enough to set up a couple beer pong tables, along with one for flip cup. There were several kegs of (really, really cheap -- might as well go for the full college draw here) beer, and nearby those, she'd placed an assortment of liquors and mixers. There was no bartender or anything for this party -- not only to fit with the theme, but also because Ramona was cheap and practical. See also the traditional red party cups she'd gotten for their drinks!

There were, however, tiki torches and a bonfire, and she'd sprung for festive little umbrellas to go in the drinks. Ramona hadn't really wanted to go totally tropical for this thing, but she'd dressed relatively beachy for her -- she was wearing a sundress, at least, over her swimsuit, and she had a little white flower in her blue hair.

She was determined to make sure Kate didn't miss any of that vital college experience. Because clearly, this was the important stuff.

Quinn stomped snow off her boots as she made her way to the restaurant's hostess stand for her date with Puck. Good old Outback: Even when your island was in a frozen wasteland in the middle of July, the Blooming Onions tasted about the same as they did in Lima. Quinn was immeasurably grateful for that.

She gave Puck a slight, frazzled smile. It felt like a long time since they'd done a couple thing, and she was eager for the night out. "I think my fingertips are numb inside my mittens," she announced, as they waited to be seated. "How are yours?"

[OOC: Open restaurant, but Quinn's here for one.]

Rilla was probably a little stickier than the traditional bride normally was (she'd had cotton candy. And ice cream. And a couple of cookies. Look, Warren and Karla's party had good food), but she was sure she looked beauuuuuuuutiful in her wedding gown made of a bedsheet and her window curtain veil.

She had flowers that she'd taken from the ground (with most of the dirt taken off of them, even!) and had even found a very nice--if a little confused--man to perform the ceremony!

And after she was done gettin' married, she would be more than willing to share her wedding dress with anyone else who wanted to get married! Weddings for everyone!

Life was pretty easy when you're six.

If anyone could recall the dance from the night before, they would have thought that it was decorated tastefully compared to what was going on tonight. There were streamers, balloons and what appeared to be paper flower ornaments everywhere. All done in yellow and blue for the proud graduates of Fandom High, of course.

And there were the 'classic' songs from twenty years ago blaring loudly for people to dance or cringe to. Who knew Ke$ha and Justin Bieber would get to be classic pop music for future generations?

Just be glad there is an open bar.

Quinn got to work a little late and looking harried, robobaby Susannah firmly in her arms.

Of course it was a day when there was some construction going on in the hotel. After Quinn's third attempt to get the workmen to quiet down and quit hammering already, she gave up and decided to live with the baby's wailing. "Life is hard," she told the droid as she bounced it in her arms. "You have to learn to deal."

Strangely, Susannah was not soothed by this.

So Puck and Quinn? Were on a date. Nothing special, just two kids from Lima getting together for steak, Blooming Onions, and keeping a promise from the labyrinth. Totally platonic.

Or so Quinn would insist, anyhow.

"I think I might have to get dessert," Quinn told him, as a tray with something covered in hot fudge and whipped cream was carried past the hostess stand where they waited. "You'll share with me?"

When Alex got into work that day, Tino was quietly cleaning the glasses. He didn't even look at Alex and was even being moderately polite.

"You know, everyone thinks you're a creeper and I wouldn't be surprised if you peep on the zombies when they're naked. You really need to get the Dummy's Guide to Not Being So Creepy. Might help you out."

Tino stood there open mouthed and Alex got to work. Of course, considering Alex would tell Tino this on any ole day, it hadn't dawned on him that this day was weird. Tino deserved it considering Alex was all wound up, tense and still jumpy. There was nothing weird going on here.

Yet.

The Homecoming Carnival was in full swing and decorated according to the theme: blues and greens of all sorts, and little fish decorations everywhere.

But that wasn't the important part, oh no.

The important part was how much fun could be had at all of the booths! Step up, step up! Take your chances!

Really, who would want to miss this?

After Quinn spoke with Santana at the picnic, it didn't take her long to realize she and Puck needed to meet up and do damage control. She'd been so focused on her mother and Finn that it hadn't even occurred to her that Puck might invite people, too. And she didn't need Santana Lopez thinking she had randomly gone crazy in two separate universes.

She and Puck needed a cover story, and it would help if it was the same one. She texted him to ask him to meet her for coffee -- and to leave the guests behind.

For now, she'd sit at a table by the window, staring into the street and contemplating whether running away was any kind of an option.

[OOC: Open coffee shop, yes!]

Jane wasn't really a bar person, but talking to Trent earlier had put her in the mood to check out some actual live music. And some of it might- might- even be good!

Once she saw the band, she considered that one hell of a long shot.

"So what's wrong with their faces?" she started to ask the bartender, but was surprised when he snapped his fingers and pointed where he was standing, like she should go behind the bar. That was what happened when your usual bartender was still unexpectedly gone. He had to get someone to fill in. And Jane had walked in.

"Look, I'm not hanging out behind a bar tonight. I'm seventeen, I'm pretty sure that's ille-"

He did it again, more insistently this time, and Jane sighed. "I'm not serving a thing but I'm taking all the tips."

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

Puck had promised to teach Ariel about chopsticks and about very exciting foods offered here in the land of Not Wherever Ariel Was From. (His vote: still Canada.) And for some reason, he felt like the sushi place would result only in trauma. Hence, he staked out a decent table at Ching Tai, and even went to the effort of looking nice.

You know, as nice as you could look with a mohawk. He had at least conditioned it. That was something.

When Ellie woke up today, all she wanted to do was watch cartoons and eat a breakfast consisting of cookies. Then she remembered she was supposed to be responsible. That meant drinking regular milk with cookies instead of chocolate. There was also the whole thing where she was supposed to help people at the hotel.

But, being seven-years-old, she was not going to sit still behind a desk, answering phones. Not when there was exploring to be done! Besides, she was hungry and there was a grumpy chef who did not want to deal with a crying child. That would be why she could have as many pancakes as she wanted with lots of syrup.

Ooh, and maybe she could sneak into one of the rooms to watch cartoons after all!

[no ocd, but very much open!]

As the night went on, an assortment of prom favours were replacing the masks on the table just inside the tent. Everyone was free to take a picture frame and disposable camera to record their own Prom memories. Also were shot glasses with the Fandom High gremlin on them. Such things happened when Dean Stinson was the Student Council advisor.

The punch was thoroughly spiked by now, but the dessert table had been refilled o soaking up all that alcohol was a definite possibility. The music would still be playing for a few hours for all to get in as much dancing and time to be with their friends as they wanted.

And in just a moment, Dean Stinson was going to announce the Prom Court.

[OOC: How much do we rock that LJ was down all day and we STILL needed a second post? SO MUCH. Again, Prom is open for SP and also getting LJ to load should not be such a rush. Please wait for the OCD is up and good to go!]

Just on the other side of the Causeway, the weather was cool, but in Fandom, a beautiful, warm nearly-summer evening welcomed Fandom's seniors and juniors to their Prom.

A large tent open on one side had been erected in the center of the park. Garlands of small white lights entwined with greenery decorated the edges and roof of the tent, while two of the canvas sides were covered in large pictures of cherry blossoms and the middle had a wall-sized painting of a masquerade. Under the canopy were clusters of little chairs and tables along with the table of food and punch bowl.

Beyond the tent's open wall, a dance floor had been set up on the grass under the conveniently flowering trees. More fairy lights had been wound through the tree branches leaving the area softly lit in most areas. Torches were placed in a few clusters around the dance floor, making flickering areas of brighter light for people to congregate.

A photographer waited for his clients just beyond the dance floor with several backdrops of flowers or masquerades or, oddly, a lemur family to choose from.

The voting box for Prom King and Queen stood right at the entrance to the dance for those last-minute votes.

And, of course for Fandom's Masquerade, a table of elaborately decorated (or some more simple ones) waited for their new owners to simply slip them on and join the revelry.

[OOC: Weather modded with permission. The Prom is open to juniors, seniors, and their dates and definitely open to slowplay. Another post will be going up later this evening set for 10pm-midnight. Prom voting is open until 4pm EDST Please to be waiting for the OCD IS UP! (No thanks to LJ)]

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.
