Lottie had been in a weird mood all day, after strange dreams all night full of aliens and hunters and chicken-faced beasts that called her "mommy".

And onions. So many onions.

And then she kept finding more onions around the dorms all day. Just looking at them made her stomach hurt.

So sometime around sunset, she'd decided she needed ice cream. There was little in this world that couldn't be fixed with ice cream! So she headed off to Chilly Boulder, ate her fill of banana splits, and already felt better by the time it was full dark.

Of course, that meant walking home. In the dark. While weird screams echoed in the distance. And she had the weirdest feeling like something was following her. . . .

She glanced back over her shoulder towards the alley, catching the streetlights glinting yellow green off a crooked grin, and shrieked.

"NIGHTSTALKER!!!!!"

"How does a ragtag volunteer army in need of a shower
Somehow defeat a global superpower?
"

"We weren't really into it!" Lottie told the stereo. "Seriously, we had, like, fourteen bazillion wars going on, mostly with France, and nobody really cared about the colonies except George! Who we hated, too! He was well bonkers!"

Lottie didn't really know that much about the American war for independence or her own country in the late 18th century, but she knew George III was crazy and she was well tired of the stereo constantly playing hiphop history at her.

"Ev’ryone give it up for America’s favorite fighting Frenchman!"

"You're singing about a war! You could be so much more metal!"

This had been going on for a month now. This stereo system was non-stop.

The sky was clear and the temperature was nice, and the park was once again filled with tables and, hopefully, parents. After all, there was so much brunch food waiting for them, it would be a shame to let it go to waste. There was also a table exclusively for mimosas. Thanks, Frank. Also on that table were cards reading "If You Know How To Banish the Astral Projection of an Elder Demon Clown, See Frank Doyle." It was probably a joke or something. Don't worry about it, just sit back, sip your mimosas, and do what the big glittery banner said.

HEY PARENTS: HAVE SOME FOOD!

The store's stereo was playing patriotic country music. No matter what Lottie did. Including unplugging everything she could find.

The cash register was going to finish rebooting any moment now.

Lottie was lying on the counter with her leather jacket pressed over her ears, moaning. It was all pretty melodramatic.

The store's stereo system was back to playing 90s German techno again. Lottie was not really amused by it.

"You couldn't at least make it Ramstein?"

Lottie hadn't been quite as affected by the recent alien abduction as a lot of other folks. Honestly, she'd mostly had fun with it. Which was probably why her idea of an appropriate way to unwind from it was to spend her day at Groovy Tunes listening to songs about shipwrecks and shootings.

There seemed to be a CD stuck in the stereo, which was giving it fits every time it tried to play any other CDs.

Which was fine by Lottie. She preferred vinyl, anyway. Those little pops and scratches that showed up every now and then just added to the gritty realness of her metal, after all.

Really, why had anyone ever bothered with CDs when there were vinyl and mp3s? Go whole-hog digital or analog or go home.

Today's music was a little too intelligible to be properly metal, but it did involve some nice discordant yelling at each other, so Lottie was still digging it pretty well.

She especially appreciated the combination of violin with relentless snare drum. She could totally play relentless snare drum. She should become a drummer! Hopefully Jono wouldn't mind her banging on everything in the store with pencils for the day. She'd lose interest and develop some other idle musical fantasy by the end of her shift, anyway.

Lottie had accidentally stayed up too late last night regaling her friends back in Tackleford with her Conspiracy Theory class speech. As a result, she was currently lying flat out on the check out counter at Groovy Tunes, pondering taking a nap.

One would think that melodic Swedish death metal would be an odd choice for relaxing nap-music, but Lottie found it totally soothing.

Lottie had managed to stumble her way into the wrong bathroom this morning before work, dealing a painful blow to her fragile adolescent sense of self. So when she was rummaging through the supply closet at Groovy Tunes and found a little pot of glittery nail polish, she decided it was time to over compensate and girly the fuck up.

Which would be why she was perched on the check out desk, painting glittery streaks over her toe nails (and lets be real, most of the rest of her foot as well), with her phone tucked between her shoulder and her ear as she gossiped with Mildred back home.

"Bright pink," she said. "Electric pink. In streaks all the way around my hair. It'd be well amazin!"

"Is that -- Lottie, are you listening to Ariana Grande?"

"I dunno, probably." Lottie tilted her head to admire her sparkly toes. "The video is about pashing at the end of the world."

"Since when do you think about pashing?" Mildred gasped. "LOTTIE DO YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND?"

Lottie's eyes went wide. "Is that what I'm s'posed to do next? Noooooooo!"

Lottie had only just gotten back into town with Pepper this morning, her mother having insisted on keeping her home for most of the week. She wasn't coping well with her prematurely empty nest, as Lottie explained to her friends. But finally, Lottie's insistence that she had a job to get to, and her continuing wild tales about Fandom's strangeness, which were not so much unbelievable as just exhausting, had convinced her mum that it was time to send her on her way again.

Lottie decided to let Pepper choose the music for the day, in honor of it being his first day on the island. She roamed the stacks with him until he stopped, then scooped him up and held him over the albums to see which one he sniffed first. The result was some mid-90s German pop about teddybears.

"You have terrible taste, Pepper," Lottie said.

Pepper licked her nose.

A large banner was set up in the park which read "HAPPY SUMMERWEEN!" in all its glittery glory. All around the party area were watermelons carved as jack-o-lanterns and all your typical halloween party type activities and treats. Except it was Summerween instead of Halloween but you get the idea.

Dipper and Mabel were also running around making sure everything was set up correctly in their twin based costume which consisted of Mabel wearing what looked like giant macaroni noodles and Dipper resembling a big block of cheddar.

Twin costumes for the win.

True to her word to Kathy, Lottie went looking for K-Pop at Groovy Tunes today. But a combination of her being honestly pretty bad so far at telling Korean and Japanese things apart and being just generally attuned to finding metal whenever possible led her to the most amazing thing she'd found in Fandom to date.

Adorable Japanese schoolgirl metal.

So this was Lottie texting all of her friends in between flinging herself around the store in time to the blasting music. This was even better than Klingon opera.

Kathy had to meet up with Eliot to return Val, but she figured that she and the puppy had time for at least one more walk together. So after strapping on her ATs and grabbing an ice cream cone from Chilly Boulder, she headed over to the park to run about with Val and maybe toss a ball around for her to fetch. It seemed like an appropriately summery thing to do, didn't it? One of those scenarios that came right out of a Rockwell painting.

If one ignored the trio of squirrels hanging out in a tree passing a nipper bottle of rum around and a teal deer that had wandered out of the preserve.

Lottie was continuing her adventures in exploring new music today at work. Right now she was rocking out to some Rachid Taha. She felt his voice could use rather a bit more growl and scream to it (she thought that about most singers), but otherwise she was well enjoying the combination of electric guitar and traditional middle eastern stringed instruments.

She was skulking through the racks to it, pretending she was on a super secret strike force getting ready to do battle with aliens. And confusing the hell out of Mildred when she decided to start texting coordinates and attack plans at her. Really now. Some folks would know to just play along.

Lottie took her time selecting the music she wanted to play at the store while she worked today. It seemed silly to work in a music store and only listen to music she already knew, so she delved deep into the stacks before finally coming up with something that looked promising.

The Dø were not quite what she expected. They had some great percussion and she rather liked the anxious tempo, which was very good for flinging herself around maniacally when there were customers to disturb, but it wasn't nearly as metal as she'd anticipated.

It had that Scandinavian slashed O! She could be forgiven, she thought, for her assumptions.

It was Lottie's first day of work ever. This called for her very best cool record store girl look (which mostly meant wearing sunglasses and excessive eyeliner), and all the selfies.

Shauna and Mildred were initially very excited by these when Lottie started sending them to them, but got a bit tired of it by her fifteenth "dancing in the aisles" shot.

Then she found her first Beatles album cover and sent a shot of her holding it up and making a confused and disappointed face and the responses started pouring in again. omg wth theyre so boring looking! sent Mildred. Which one is which? They all look exactly the same. wrote Shauna, who had the cutest habit of actually spelling things out and punctuating them in her text messages.

i kno! Lottie sent back. And added a half dozen poop emojis. & they cant even spell!

As one of, what, possibly three people on the island who hadn't been affected by Fandom's whims over the weekend, Jono was actually in a fairly decent mood today. And why shouldn't he be? The last time he'd found himself twenty years older thanks to Fandom's whims, he'd had a pair of boots thrown at his head.

Still and all, he'd been terrible at opening the shop over the weekend anyway, and had decided to make it up tonight by not only opening the Groovy Tunes, but also putting a 'buy one CD, get a second one free' sign up in the window in an attempt to attract customers.

Who knew? Maybe he could introduce the island's population to something they'd never heard before. That was always fun.

There was a small chance of rain on the island today, but as the weather was still warm enough, that had not stopped the school administration for having the customary brunch outdoors in the park. It just meant some more canopies had been set out, to protect both the alumni as well as all the food and drink on offer from any possible rain.

There were flowers and streamers in blue and gold on tables, as well as perhaps some tasteful glitter.

Okay, more than enough glitter. Sorry, bad habit.

Much like the last time this event had taken place, it would appear to anyone who came to the community center tonight that whoever had been responsible for decorating for the reunion mixer actually had some taste. The decorations were simple - blue linen on the tables with gold flowers as centerpieces, and a notable lack of any tacky accoutrements - but there was, of course, gold and blue glitter scattered just about everywhere.

Don't tell us you hadn't missed it, old Fandomites.
