As usual, the decorations from the dance had escaped the confines of Town Hall, which mean the park was filled with Halloween decorated sea creatures, "sea" "creatures," and plenty of glitter. It just wouldn't be right to send the alumni home without a few more weird things to dream about, right?

It seemed that one of the elements that needed to be found was a representation of kindness, so by definition it was likely a foregone conclusion that a group would assemble to look for it.

If they could figure out what it looked like, at least. )

The mayor had ordered anyone who liked party planning to the community center to, well, plan a party.

Just to make that point clear, she'd also pasted a giant sheet of paper on the front door, with the specific text from Special Collections photocopied up top, and a message underneath:

WE NEED TO WARD THIS STUFF OFF WITH A PARTY
A KID'S CHRISTMAS PARTY
MAKE IT GOOD
(DON'T SKIMP ON THE BOOZE)

[[ for team party planning! wait for the ocd up. ]]

It had been some time since Edward had promised Cosette a picnic, but now he had the means to make it happen. He'd wanted to do it properly: a basket full of baked goods and fruit, flowers, a nice cloth to sit on. He'd laid it all out as well as he could, underneath a tree, so that if it started raining they'd be more or less shielded from the worst.

Now he was sprawled across the cloth, resisting the urge to eat an apple as he waited for Cosette. Reshuffling the flowers some, to make them more appealing.

[[ edward's here for that girl, but park is open like a park. ]]

On Friday night, Éponine caught a small hand sneaking into her pocket, but to put some stolen bit of pastry into it; ever since then she'd been spending her time in keeping Gavroche from stealing things from various shops (he laughed the first time she hissed at him that she had to be respectable around here, taking him to see movies, and treating him to meals at all of her favorite restaurants in town.

She'd bought him clothes, too, and shoes, even if she knew perfectly well that he would likely have to go away again soon; Gavroche had rolled his eyes at this, but indulged her; he'd never been one to complain when he was alive, and, as he informed her solemnly, he wasn't going to change his policy now. There was an odd sort of pleasure in getting to do this, as if for the first time in her life she could look after him the way an older sibling ought to. The way their parents never did -- Gavroche had done more to look after her and Azelma in the end than they had.

It was odd. For what might be the first time, it felt like they were actually a family.

They had a table outside the bakery this morning (Gavroche was highly amused by the name of the place), with coffee and a pile of pastries on a plate, and Éponine was prepared to have a nice leisurely meal with her brother.

That is, until Cosette spotted them and introduced them to her mother, at which point -- even though Cosette was alert enough to not let on that her last name was Thénardier -- Éponine wanted to crawl under the table and die of shame. She had no illusions about what Fantine must have gone through for Cosette's sake, which only made it worse for her, knowing that she and Azelma had been the beneficiaries of it all.

Gavroche took a liking to Cosette immediately, even before she realized he'd been the little boy who was always crying in the inn and went out of her way to be especially kind to him. As for Éponine, she couldn't help but like Cosette's mother despite her guilt, and Fantine -- who must have recognized something of herself in Éponine -- seemed to take care to treat her nicely in return.

So it was still strange, but turning out to be the closest thing to a real family dinner she'd ever had. She knew she'd have a headache later trying to make sense of it all.

[OOC: . . . yeah, just throwing them all in one post so my brain doesn't explode, but open!]

Getting a bucket and filling it with salt had been surprisingly easy. As it turned out, even Fosse wasn't a huge fan of the idea of being possessed by interloping ghosts, and Elsa and Cosette were now well armed with all of the salt they could get their hands on after a pit-stop in the school cafeteria for good measure.

Now they were wandering through the preserve, looking for a rowan tree, like the ones that they needed in order to create a dowsing rod. Finding the tree would be easy enough - the preserve was full of them, after all. The trek itself, on the other hand?

"I'm going to stop jumping at shadows any minute now, I promise," Elsa whispered, fingers holding on, white-knuckled, to the handle of the bucket. "Aaany minute."

[OOC: For the partner in crime, but open preserve is open, if anybody wants to wander in!]

Soooo the carnival was out this year, due to that whole murder carnival this summer. But it did bring the arrival of the Homecoming Fall Festival, which was open nice and early for everyone to get playing around and mingling. You might even be enticed to come in just by the dulcet sounds of the zombie band playing at the concert stage. Yeah, that was a thing that was happening.

There was plenty of new fall-themed stuff going on to see and explore, and who doesn't want to catch up with everyone who's come into town for the weekend? Come one, come all, and remember to stick around for the parade! Because this was a town full of stairs and that was gonna be interesting.

Oh and you were almost guaranteed to leave with glitter on your person but you knew this job was dangerous when you took it.

The beach held a certain fascination for Cosette, who had never lived anywhere beside the shore before she came to Fandom, and while she still preferred to spend hours in explorations of the preserve where she could surround herself with animals and plant life she found the beach relaxing.

It seemed like a good place to be today, so there Cosette was with her knees tucked up against her chest and her toes dug into the sand, looking out at the water; the rhythm of the waves was soothing somehow, and watching them crash against the sand was oddly cathartic. Perhaps she'd call her father later; she was sure he'd have no objection if she wanted to come over for dinner. Perhaps she'd ask him a few questions, too. He was intractably tight-lipped about his own past, no matter how good Cosette was at cajoling him into just about anything else, but perhaps she could persuade him to help her fill in the blanks about the night he found her. There wasn't much she could do about that now but face up to it.

[OOC: Totally open. Apologies in advance for slowness, basically like always.]

Had the carnival changed? Retreated? No, but perhaps it had filled up even worse over the past twenty-four hours or so.

The look on that mustached man's face certainly exuded a certain amount of triumph as the lights went on again early on Sunday morning. He stabbed the ground with his cane and watched; if experience counted for anything, then there would be yet more pouring into his carnival today.

The feeding was good, here.

That scent of cotton candy rolled over the island once more, and the carnival's music touched what it could not.

It's a new day, Fandom. Come, enjoy it.

Anakin had a finally dug out his office from the pink bunnies that Bel had infested it with (he didn't need proof to know it was Bel, okay? HE KNEW). After taking two home for Juliet and Chris (and ignoring the vague smirk on Rory's face because of course she remembered their first year and why pink bunnies were hilarious and now he missed Hamlet and dammit it, he'd gotten over that particular heartache a decade ago), he filled up a wheelbarrow with the rest and was now dumping them into the Belthazor-shaped hole in the ground located just off of the pond in the park.

Because Anakin was a petty, petty bastard.

A sign was posted at the front door:

Caritas Presents:
3 MINUTE DATES

Just before 8:00, Bruce walked up onto the stage, dressed in a suit and a smile. "Hello, and welcome to Three Minute Dates. I'm not exactly sure how I got roped into this to begin with, but I agreed because it kept me from participating for once. Trust me, my dating history doesn't really need another five dates in a night. That said, I will be at the bar once this is done, so you can still have a chance to chat me up if you really want to."

After a very brief pause for laughter, Bruce clapped his hands together. "Well, without further ado, let's get this started. I'll read off a bunch of pairings, then you'll have three minutes until the air horn sounds..." Which it did, just then. Bruce visibly cringed. "Then it's time to cover your ears and run off to your next date once I call your name. It's just five rounds, so you'll be done with this in no time. Good luck."

[OOC: Three minutes = ten comments total, five per person. You don't need to do your threads chronologically, but try not to Joss yourself.

Epic OCD is beginning. has been completed. You have permission to play.

If I made a blatant mistake, like skipping a character completely for a round or posting a pairing twice, feel free to grab me on AIM or in the OOC thread and I'll make a quick fix. Remember, attacks on your dates will get you teleported elsewhere on the island.

Also remember that most playing should happen on Saturday, but if you need to finish things up on Sunday, that's fine.

A regular post-dates Caritas post will go up Saturday afternoon when I'm snowed in like Edward. Zing!]
