The Cafe Fina staff was rejoicing at suddenly being human again. They were excited to be making things like they had before, though one of the whisks had accidentally stuck his head in a bowl before remembering it wouldn't do anything but make a mess.

On the downside, it also meant that the Cheese Grater had to go out and buy plates, silverware, and other essential kitchen utensils so that the Cafe could actually function.

Kurogane was going to be annoyed at the sudden cost. Fai was in his usual place in the corner of the Cafe, not seeming to notice that there was anything out of the ordinary.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The ingredients shipment that had just come in for the cafe had completely boggled Fai. It included a large amount of something wiggly and creepy and vaguely fishy, all factors that made Fai shudder and leave the staff to it.

Kurogane, on the other hand, was completely unphazed by the squid.

The staff was happy to find ways to prepare it.

Today's Specials:
Calamari Steak
Fried Calamari Rings
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The past weekend had been quite entertaining, but of course was now something that was Not To Be Mentioned Again. At least it was for a certain cranky ninja.

Care Fina was back to its normal self, with the owners present and human again. The staff almost seemed a little envious, somehow.

Today's Specials:
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Chocolate Cake
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
There were a dog and cat chasing each other around the cafe, thankfully not destroying anything but causeing a lot of distraction. The Flatware seemed to have everything under control though even with the owners turning into animals.

Today's Specials
Hot Dogs
Blackened Cat Fish

[Fai-mun and I are going to be gone all weekened in Victoria. So they are animalfied. No OCD, just mod your service as you please~]
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
The sound of a bell ringing from the apartment upstairs was an almost constant background noise that Kurogane was quickly starting to ignore.

The mage had gotten his cold, flu, sickness, whatever it had been and one of the employees had been stupid enough to give Fai a bell to get their attention when he needed something... no one was saying who did it, but he highly suspected Mokona since every time he took it away another one appeared.

Either way the Cafe had to be opened bell or no, so Kurogane sat downstairs behind the counter doing the best he could to look non threatening.

Today's Specials

Chicken Pot Pie
Mac 'n' Cheese
Veal Parmesan
Matza Ball Soup

A sign in the window also stated Help Wanted: Inquire within!

[Fai modded with permission]
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
There were new people on the island!

Some people had left but some people were arriving, so it did all, in the grand scheme of things, balance out. Fai was looking forward to meeting the new students and teachers who were arriving for the new term, and wanted to make sure the Cafe made a good impression.

Which meant putting Kurogane to work somewhere out of the way so he wouldn't scare any potential customers or new hires.

Fai had Kurogane on Handyman duty in the kitchen for the time being, until the gruff swordsman eventualy (undoubtedly) got annoyed with it and moved on to something else. They would deal with that hurdle if and when it came up.

Today's Special:
Double Chocolate Cake

Below the specials sign was another sign:

Now Hiring!

Cafe Fina, Saturday 5/2

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 02:29 pm
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
At the insistence of the kitchen staff, Cafe Fina was open.

Fai wasn't really paying much attention, since Kurogane had developed some kind of cold and was even crankier than usual. So it was up to the cheese grater to take charge and marshall the troops.

"Come on, blow," Fai demanded, holding a kleenex in front of Kurogane's nose. "Nobody likes a Mr. Sniffles!"

The staff was, wisely, steering clear of them.

Today's Special:
Your choice of soup in a sourdough breadbowl
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It was finally getting warmer outside, which meant the possibility of an outdoor seating area. Fai left the kitchen work to the staff, instead devoting himself to making some sketches of ideas to present to Kurogane.

Not that he needed the 'okay' from Kurogane in order to do it, but it would at least make the ninja think he had a say in things.

Today's Special:
Design-Your-Own Panini
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
Kurogane was only too glad that they had missed out on the fandom weirdness that had hit last weekend. He wasn't sure if he could handle a second dose of twins, Fai probably would have had another break down...

Still, things were nice and quiet (as they ever were) and He was willing just to sit around with the comicsnewspaper and read.

Today's Specials
Lobster Mac'n'Cheese
Waldorf Salad
Molten Lava Cake
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It had been a pretty ordinary day for Fai. Get up, open the cafe as usual...check on the zombified employee to make sure he was still tied up in the corner.

Kurogane had disappeared, likely off finding more zombies to destroy, but Fai didn't mind. He passed the time by throwing meat scraps to Warren, clapping gleefully whenever a piece actually landed in Warren's mouth.

It might be a bizarre pastime, but it was actually very fun.

Today's Special
Brain Cake
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It was highly unlikely that anyone would be coming in today, but as they actually lived right above the place, Fai had no trouble opening the cafe.

Stragely enough, there were no barricades across the door or windows. However Mokona was sitting perfectly still next to the cash register in defensive mode, and Fai was playing darts with a dart board that had totally been there the entire time, really.

Anything unwanted that came in would be finding itself repelled.

Today's Special:
Free Coffee and Tea
(Safehouse)

(Zombies welcome. See OOC note)
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It had, surprisingly, been a very productive week. The dishes were working on a new routine, and Kurogane had, apparently, actually gone out and done something social. Fai was quite proud of his anti-social companion.

"Kuro-wan!" Fai called, coming out of the kitchen and dusting off his hands. "You've been such a good puppy lately!" He crossed over to Kurogane and patted the dark swordsman's head, completely ignoring the Look of Death that was aimed at him. "Everybody's so happy for Daddy!"

Fai dodged the glass that flew at his head, and, laughing, went to get the broom to clean up the mess.

Today's Specials:
Fried Zuccini
White Chocolate Chip Raspberry Cheesecake
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
Kurogane and Fai were both working down in the cafe today. Fai to handle the customers with his normal cheery personality, and Kurogane to... supervise since Mokona and Fai were convinced that he was scaring all the customers away when he waited tables.

Today's Specials
Fried Zucchini
Chicken Corn Chowder
Fish 'n' Chips
Green Tea Creme Bruleé

And the cafe was open for buisiness.

[OOC: will be gone for a bit this morning as Fai-mun and I go get a new Kitteh~~~! Then we'll be back! BACK NOW!! YAAAY! Oh and Fai modded with permission.]
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
Kurogane should have known just to go back upstairs after coming down to the cafe and finding all the utensils were all human...

The sense of shock though ended fairly quickly when they still all acted exactly the same.

Still, Kurogane braced himself for anything else weird that might walk through the door when he opened the cafe.

Today's Specials
Comfort Food (You name it We got it)
Pie - various
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai didn't normally open on Saturdays, but he didn't trust Kurogane with the public at the moment. The ordinarily tetchy ninja was even more so, dealing with a hangover from the night before, so Fai had taken pity on both Kurogane and their customers.

Mokona, however, was nowhere to be found, and was likely still upstairs harrassing the hungover ninja.

Today's Special:
Champagne Cake
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The events of the week were a topic that was not to be discussed in the cafe. Fai seemed to be in a bit of a daze - or, at least, more of one than usual - as he rearranged things in the display case. Even Mokona had given up on trying to get his attention, and had gone back to the kitchen instead.

Today's Special:
Southwest Chicken Salad
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Anyone entering the cafe today was risking a flying Mokona attack. Well, not an attack, exactly. Fai wasn't sure how it had begun, other than somehow the cheese grater and Mokona had a Discussion, and now Mokona was launching itself from tables to hug people.

Sometimes, it really was best not to ask.

Today's Special
Chocolate-Hazelnut Smooches
[identity profile] perfectmissyork.livejournal.com
In retrospect, Charlotte was thinking that perhaps, after his little display of his ability to hammer well, she should lightly pester Kevin into flexing those carpentry muscles to build something...anything...for the exhibit, especially since there had been no submissions yet. Sure, it was still a few days until the deadline, but she was a little paranoid polly and it made her flail a little bit. Maybe she should extend it, wait until next week to do the exhibit...

...The usual Sunday tea that was set out for guests was being constantly rearranged out of all of Charlotte's fidgeting.

The York Gallery is open!
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai was still firmly of the belief that Kurogane should continue having a flavor, but sadly that day had passed. Still, Fai was craving chocolate, and that had an influence on the daily special.

Today's Special
Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies

The "Now Hiring!" sign was up as well.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Cafe Fina had been incredibly busy on Saturday; not because of customers, but because there had been an awful lot of cleaning up to do. One of the giant-sized bottles of cooking oil had exploded, making a huge mess throughout the entire kitchen and half of the dining room.

The place was mostly clean now, with Mokona still skating around on scrub-brush skates and singing a nonsense song about cleaning.

Fai was sitting at one of the tables with an untouched cup of tea, nearly asleep. It had been a long, long day and night of oil-slick.

Today's Special
Fried Candy Bars

Jaye was actually at work, and there early for once, which shocked the hell out of Tino. But see, she got to host tonight, and she was actually excited for it. She'd even brought popcorn to watch. Maybe someone could get slapped in three minutes and the slapper would end up in the pond. When people arrived, there was even a sign on the door.

Caritas Presents
THREE MINUTE DATES

Hosted by Jaye Tyler
Reject People! Speedily!

When everyone had gotten there, Jaye took the stage, mic in hand. "Hey there, so you should all know how this goes by now, as we've had way too many for you to be clueless. Unless you're new. In which case, ha ha, suckers. So, dating sucks, so we get you through the process really really quickly. Now you can find out within three minutes that the person you're talking to is not the one you want to spend even four minutes more with.

"Here's how it goes: I call your name, and someone else's. You get together. You talk for three minutes, get to know each other, and then you'll hear this," she said, pulling an airhorn from behind her back to sound it. "Then I'll call your name with someone else's and you switch. You'll hear this sound," she said, blowing the horn again just because she could, "five times total. Any ques- good. Enjoy!"

[Three minutes = ten comments, which means each person gets five comments in a thread. You don't have to do these chronologically, but try not to Joss yourself. Slowplay is totally fine omg.

Also wait for OCD becauase if you interrupt me I WILL come over there. Ready! Set! Go kill my inbox!]
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai wasn't freaking out, screaming, or anything of the sort. No, no...he was doing some wonderfully healthy repressing, instead.

So healthy.

Thankfully, the dishes weren't taunting him or trying to call him Yuui; they seemed to take the Fandom weirdness pretty well in stride this time. Even Mokona was mercifully normal. Normal for it, anyway.

Everything was totally normal now. Yep. Nevermind the way Fai would occasionally go very quiet and still, blue eyes vacant as he watched something only he could see in his mind.

Today's Specials
Apple Pie
Hot Fudge Sundaes

The "Now Hiring!" sign was up, as well.

It was simply business as usual.
[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com
So somehow 'doing something' had wound up with Wade and Nate lurking in a tree. With their squirt guns. It was probably a combination of events that was to blame; Nate's insistence on some cover and somewhere safe, and Wade's...

Well.

Nate clung to his squirt gun and peered out between the leaves. "I think the tree should have a name."

After getting all wet and plaguey in the park, Jaye came to Caritas, just knowing she was supposed to be here. She waved to Tino and walked behind the bar, and frowned. "I can't reach!" she complained, jumping up and down with her hand outstretched. She only wanted some chocolate milk. What the hell.

She did that once, then got bored and gave out. Tino could tend bar, she was going to try to make a fort in the lounge.

Morning found Fai - or, at least, someone who looked like Fai - bounding down the stairs of the apartment and into Cafe Fina. While this wouldn't have been any different than normal...the boy couldn't have been more than about 5 or 6 years old.

"Fai?" he called, looking under one of the tables. "Fai, where are you? I don't wanna play hide and seek!"

The dishes went along with their usual morning routine, leaving Mokona to deal with the little blond child.

"Fai?" Mokona asked, looking over the edge of the table that the boy had hidden himself under. "Are you okay?"

"I'm not Fai! I'm Yuui! Have you seen him?" Yuui's voice wavered, obviously bordering on panic.

"No, but maybe he'll be here later. Let's have cake!" Mokona bounced down excitedly. "Cake is yummy!"

"...Okay," Yuui said reluctantly, scooping up the white creature and going to get a piece of cake from the display case. This would be as good a place as any to see if Fai would turn up.

Today's Special
Chocolate Cake

(it's explained in the ooc, I promise)
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
One of the plates was currently having strong hysterics in the back of the kitchen, and nobody could understand why. She just kept screaming "the cake is a lie!" over and over and over again.

So they baked a cake.

They couldn't understand why she still wouldn't stop calling it a lie...

Today's Special
Cake
(it's not a lie)

And there was still the "Now Hiring!" sign, as well.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It was hard to say why the weetiny pirates thought Cafe Fina would be a good place to pillage. Obviously, they hadn't investigated the place first. But then, they were pirates, and had very small brains to go with very small bodies.

After Mokona inhaled the first two, the rest had run screaming from the army of sentient utensils.

Fai just smiled and leaned back in his chair, watching. Who needed a security system, when you had an army like that?

Today's Special
Root Beer Floats

The "Now Hiring!" sign was also in the window, with a couple of wee pirates hiding behind it.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai wondered if, by opening the Cafe himself, he could force Kurogane to go check out the picnic event at the school.

Probably not.

Still, it was an entertaining thought, and kept a smile on the blond man's face as he put up the signs in the windows.

Today's Special:
Singing for Your Food
sing (or play) us a tune, and eat for free!

Below that, he added the "NOW HIRING!" sign as well.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai opened the cafe a little early today, then disappeared into the kitchen. He was in the mood to help cook. The specials board had been updated accordingly.

Today's Special
Fai's Chocolate Cake
(it's magically delicious!)

Mokona was proud of its sign-making abilities.

Cafe Fina, Tuesday 6/3

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 10:35 am
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The Cafe was surprisingly quiet; not even Mokona was bouncing around yelling. But that was really only because the dishes had a flair for the dramatic.

The entire place went dark inside, a single spotlight suddenly illuminating one of the circular tables...where Mokona and a set of forks began hula dancing in wee grass skirts.

Sometimes it really was best not to ask.

Today's Specials
Pina Colada Cheesecake
Rum Balls
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The arrival of all the new students today was something Fai had taken into account. Even the cheese grater had arranged a new musical number in their honor (not that that was unusual).

To make the new students feel at home, and as a celebration for the students who were still there, they had a special special.

Today's Special
Free Food!

Kurogane was going to kill Fai.

Cafe Fina - Tuesday 5/6

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 07:52 am
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The kitchen staff was inspired by being in Greece, trying various different dishes in order to expand their repertoire of culinary talents. Even Mokona was getting into the spirit, running around in a miniature chef's hat.

Fai left them to their fun, sitting at his usual table with a cup of tea and a notebook.

Today's Special
Raspberry and Oatmeal Swirls
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The Cafe was surprisingly quiet.

Mostly because the singing tableware had been challenged: instead of the usual song-and-dance numbers, they were performing a pantomime. It had been Fai's idea.

So enthused were they on the new show, that the specials board was completely ignored. The "Now Hiring!" sign, however, was still prominently displayed.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai was surprised at how quickly he'd adjusted to being Mommy. But then, he'd had some practice with Sakura and Syaoran...sort of.

The kitchen staff were still somewhat flustered, but the Cafe was running smoothly, as always. To make things easier for them, and in order to appeal to the kids in town, the special today was simple.

Today's Special
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

Fai was already feeding some to his own children. Yuui seemed more interested in getting jelly all over his face and fingers, almost finger-painting with it. Suwa, on the other hand, took tiny little bites, very careful to keep completely clean.

"You two are so cute," Fai commented, wiping jelly off Yuui's forehead with a napkin.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
It was a totally normal day!

Except that there were suddenly little spoons and plates and other kitchenware running around, and the staff was completely boggled. Apparently, even sentient flat- and silverware were not immune to Fandom weirdness.

Amused and slightly curious, Fai painstakingly copied the name of the special onto the board, exactly as the flustered cheese grater had written it for him.

Today's Special
Birthday Cake

Afterward, Fai retreated to a table nearer the kitchen in order to watch the organized chaos within. Otherworld weirdness could be fun - when you weren't the one affected!
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai hadn't been avoiding people...not at all. Just one person. If that happened to take him away from the Cafe and out handwavily exploring obscure corners of the island, well...it did.

But he was in to open the Cafe without a hitch, sitting on rather than at one of the tables near the kitchen to watch the latest dance rehearsal.

Instead of allowing Mokona to write the sign again, Fai had convinced the cheese grater to do it.

Today's Special
Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake

The "Now Hiring!" sign was still in the window.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai was in a very cheery mood. Not that this was abnormal. Still, he seemed to be even more cheery than usual, occasionally joining in on the impromptu dance numbers with the kitchen staff.

It totally didn't matter that he didn't speak French.

Today's Special
Pina Colada Cheesecake

The "Now Hiring!" sign was also prominently displayed.

(BEAR ME!)
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Mokona seemed intent to spend the day dancing with the silver- and flatware. Fai really had no problem with this, amusing himself by watching them all dance together. As long as everyone was served in a timely manner - and really, the staff lived to serve, so there were no problems anticipated in that regard.

Fai directed Mokona to write up the specials board, then sat back at his usual table with a notepad and a cup of tea.

Today's Specials
Baby Chicken Sandwiches

Strawberry Shortcake

Eventually, Fai would learn not to let Mokona do the specials anymore. Or at least tell the white creature what to write.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The sign was flipped to "Open" and the "Now Hiring!" was right underneath it - and not upside down!

The blond half of the owner duo was sitting at one of the tables, his head rested on his crossed arms, fast asleep. The kitchen staff and Mokona weren't bothering to be quiet, but Fai could sleep through just about anything sometimes.
[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com
As it was his first day, he made sure to come in early and get things tidied up. He wanted everything to be perfect when/if Kurogane or Fei came down to look in on him. He took some time to figure out what he wanted to make for the day (which was a thrill, really, even if he felt a little ridiculous for being so happy about it) but finally put out the specials board as he started to work on the food itself.

Today's Specials

Lemon-Rice Soup
Blueberry Buffalo Stew

Butternut and Apple Risotto
Spicy Black Bean & Corn Chili W/BBQ Shrimp
Roast Leg of Lamb

Browned Butter Chocolate Chip-Cherry Cookies

...he'd probably do up less most weeks, but he was trying to impress.
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
Kurogane was a little angry that no one bothered to tell him that their employee for the day hadn't show up.

But you couldn't tell from the way he glared and cracked his knuckles at the flatware everytime they started to sing and or dance.

Still, when Kurogane opened up the cafe he put the "HELP WANTED" sign back out there, just in case.

Better late than never.
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai thought the weekend had been pretty amusing, actually. People suddenly reverting to childhood wasn't something he was familiar with, but he'd taken it in stride with a great deal of amusement.

Kurogane hadn't found it nearly as funny as Fai, which was why Fai was currently 'hiding' in the perk with a large, steaming cup of...something. The barista had called it 'chai', but Fai wasn't familiar with that term. It was good, though.

He could work on his lists here just as well as he could in the Cafe. Possibly even better.

(open as public places are~)
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
Fai had remembered to flip the sign.

He had also prompted the cheese grater to write a new sign to put under the "Open" sign:

FREE CANDY!
Just ask Kurogane!
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The cafe was open...Fai had just forgotten to change the sign.

So the sign said closed, but the lights were on and at least one of the owners was sitting at one of the tables, drinking tea and doodling on a notepad. Fai was still trying to come up with menu ideas. At least the employee situation had been settled.

Café Fina, Tuesday

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 01:56 pm
[identity profile] palestshadow.livejournal.com
It was, Naminé thought, exceptionally nice to have her old job back. And the singing plates and the cheese-grater seemed more thrilled than ever. Viva Fina!

The Specials Board for today:

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake
It's back, how can you resist?

Café Fina was open.

Cafe Fina - Friday

Friday, March 21st, 2008 02:12 pm
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
Kurogane was putting together new chairs and tables.

Why? To stop Fai from whining at him about setting them up.

He was not whipped! Shut up!

Still, so there he was in the middle of the floor of the cafe, with a million pieces around him as he tried to understand the directions.

Who the hell ever heard of a table with a person's name anyways.

And the Help Wanted! sign was still up and promanent in the window.
[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com
Nothing said fun times quite like having a giant espresso filled with sugar and cream and various other things that made his poor body scream in horror at how unhealthy it was.

Deadpool was halfway through the list of coffees today, and excited to get to the end.

Or maybe just over-caffeinated. Who knew?

[[OOC: Open like a coffee shop normally is! - AFK until 9:30 CST due to woooork now.]]
[identity profile] hanged-magician.livejournal.com
The cafe wasn't actually open, but Fai couldn't read the open/closed sign yet, and nobody had bothered to point it out to him.

The kitchen utensils were currently helping Fai clean up, sweeping and dusting and washing dusty dishes. The blond himself wasn't exactly helping...he was supervising. While sitting at one of the tables with a cup of tea, idly writing down notes on a pad of paper in front of him. There were more doodles in the margins than actual notes, but he was trying to get some ideas for a menu. Having politely declined the cheese grater's offer for help, that left the task entirely up to Fai.

And Kurogane, if the ninja felt so inclined, though Fai had to doubt that; Kurogane was too weirded out by the singing and dancing silverware still.

Still, there was work to be done. Once he'd figured out some possible menu choices, Fai would need to see about how to hire new staff - of the human or humanoid variety. There were definitely positions available.

(Cafe Fina is not quite open for business, so no OCD yet. But if you want to drop by and talk to the new owner(s) or anyone is interested in a job?)
[identity profile] wannabe-samurai.livejournal.com
The lights blazed inside the Cafe and the small apartment above it as life returned and. The place was filled with dancing and singing flatware, a blond mage and an animated... pork bun... thing, all supposedly making the place presentable for customers again.

But for Kurogane this place was topping the weird factor. Demon invasions, angel invasions, gremlins, sure. He could handle all of that. But the dancing and singing flatware pushed his limits. Not that he wouldn't get used to them as he did everything and everyone else he was stuck with, but Kurogane didn't want to let any of them know it.

So instead he was sent to fix up anything around the outside of the building while the rest of them worked inside. Kurogane was very afraid of what he'd find when he went back in, but was hiding it well as he hammered a sign into the ground out front up that read:

Cafe Fina!!
Grand Re-Opening Coming Soon!
Help Wanted!!
For Employment
See Fai or Kurogane-tan

Fai made the sign.
