The Community Center was decorated in Fandom's signature blue and gold, with streamers and flags and the odd Fighting Gremlin banner. There was a tasteful amount of glitter among the decorations, assuming that person in charge of taste was a four year old hyped up on candy and Red Bull while huffing glue made from unicorns.

In short, Fandom's alumni, ex-pats, and current teachers should feel right at home, nostalgia hitting them right in the sinuses.

You're welcome, Fandom alumni. Don't forget to donate to the Alumni Association!

In one place, the invitation had said listed the dresscode as 'casual-formalwear.' In another, it was 'formal-casualwear.' Whatever that meant for clothing, it included a DJ, armed with only his collection of 'Easy Listening', and an open bar, but the food was served buffet style, with everyone helping themselves.

Hoped you still liked 'Kiss from a Rose' after the sixth playing tonight, folks!

[Open to all alumni of the school, including those who still live in town, ex-pats, and teachers/faculty of the school. If you need a reason to show up to the island in time for Noir Weekend, here it is. Even if you don't need a reason--here it is anyway! OCD up, have fun!]

Hoshi was feeling awful today. Last night, when she was torturing that dimwit Gunther, she had been this close to breaking him and getting him to reveal what he knew about the Resistance. But then a strange thought occurred to her: her beloved grandfather would have been disappointed in her. She didn't know why, but she actually tended to Gunther's injuries and let him go.

Today, she would not to show any weakness unless she managed to overthrow the Imperious curse again. She was going to take advantage of her shift at the front desk and eavesdrop on conversations. Hopefully she'd learn something more interesting than the fact that the housekeeping staff were calling her a whore behind her back. She'd take care of them later.

Emma was at the front of the room, dressed all in white as usual. Thank goodness summer was almost over, and she could return to New York and the Hellfire Club when this was finished.

"Fear," she said crisply, raking her eyes over the assembled students. "If you don't possess metahuman abilities or magic, it's the best way of making new friends and shaping the way they see things."

"Once upon a time, during the Victorian era, women were not allowed to show ankles or elbows, because it was deemed indecent. That just made people want to see more. Fear works much the same way; if they know the extent of how far you'll go or what you can do, there is no more reason to fear. If you keep something just out of sight, and they know you're holding back, their imaginations will run wild with what they think you can do."

"I have an advantage that I can reach into someone's mind and see what their greatest fear is and turn it back against them as easily as breathing. But what do you do when you don't have my talents? How do you find fear, and how do you exploit it?"

Notices had gone out to all and sundry, inviting both those who still lived on the island as well as those who'd moved away to come back for a dance at the Fandom Town community center, in celebration of the 43rd (give or take a day) anniversary of the original moon landing, as well as the wonderful summer they were having.

Once people arrived, they'd find the community center's auditorium decorated according to the theme of the evening. Silver streamers hung all around, and a few papier mache moons had been fixed to the ceiling. The lights were dimmed, and there were flowers – most white, but some of them colored silver – on all the tables, bringing the faint scent of summer with them.

And naturally, there were big tables full of food, like at any large Fandom gathering. There was also a bar, though those underage would have to content themselves with sodas and virgin drinks. Maybe they could get over their sorrow over that on the dance floor, showing off their best Moonwalk.

Everything was ready for the people of Fandom to have a good time.

Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Welcome, one and all, to the Fandom High Homecoming Carnival! Here you'd find red and white decorations abound, including just about everything maple-leaf emblazoned imaginable, an assortment of moose-related things (including a crossing sign), and an assortment of delicious foods.

Rides, games and activities were set up all over the park, and an enormous set of speakers was playing a Canadian Greatest Hits playlist that seemed to be disproportionately Bieber-centric.

All the joy of Canada was brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Student Council. Enjoy!

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Hoshi had her hands full today. Not only was Gunther short-handed in the kitchen and pleading for her help, but something was bothering Porthos. The beagle was very agitated, running all over the lobby and parking as if something was there. There were a few times he even chased Hoshi away from certain areas.

She grumbled about it the first few times, but then Hoshi realized that the Porthos was trying to warn her that something was very wrong. She knew too well that when things were wrong with the island, it could be very dangerous.

Apparently the sous chef agreed, because he stormed out of the kitchen and tossed his chef's hat at Hoshi before announcing he was not coming back. "Please tell me you're not quitting?" she pleaded.

When you had too much time on your hands, Angela was finding that you could only take so much time out on the beach, and in order to split that an air conditioned coffee shop was a great place to spend a little of that time. Iced coffee, since it was still way too hot out for anything warm, but it still counted.

And she had some plans to make. Which she should have made a few weeks ago, but was getting to now, jotting down ideas of places she could stop in and where they might have jobs going.

When Hannibal wandered into worked, he stopped dead at the sight of Tino in full hockey gear, complete with helmet, gloves and stick. The only thing he wasn't wearing were the skates and he'd made up for that by draping them on the bar.

"Hockey's a stupid sport and you're stupid too," Hannibal said very maturely, coming back behind the bar and smacking Tino's helmeted head. "If I wanted to stick my puck in a net, I'd go have sex."

Tino spent the rest of the night pissed. And in hockey gear.

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

The lobby television was tuned to a World Cup match, but it was on the Spanish language station. That didn't bother Hoshi a bit, since she felt she needed a refresher. Besides, the Spanish announcers were much more entertaining.

Foundation, of course, would come first since the ground had already been prepared.

Hard hats, goggles and tool belts were required and it was going to be hard, sweaty work but it'd be rewarding. The Community Center would be all the better for it.
