StuCo had been busy since folks had last left the park. What had been a very nice glittery picnic had been transformed into a (glittery) fallstravaganza, full of scarecrows and decorative gourds. Crisp, brightly colored leaves covered the ground, despite the still mostly green ones still clinging to the actual trees. The scent of melted butter and warm spices filled the air. They'd somehow even managed a corn maze, despite the distinct lack of anything resembling a corn field having been in the park before.

There were pumpkins literally everywhere.

The weather was threatening to top 90°F, but StuCo didn't care. It was fall dammit!

"Okay," Duke said, looking over the menu over the counter. "That all looks . . . normal. You're not even using cutesy names for your sizes -- which, by the way, I appreciate. Kind of a lot of pumpkin on there, but I guess it's basically the season for it." He finally shook his head and looked at the barista. "So this is actually just a perfectly normal coffee shop."

The barista examined her nails, looking bored. (Also incredibly normal.) "So are you going to order something, or. . . ?"

"Yes," Duke said, knocking on the counter. "Let's do a large coffee with -- do you have Bailey's?"

"It's, like, ten AM."

"It is." Duke pointed at her and clicked his tongue, then resumed tapping on the counter. "Just black, then." He glanced at the bakery case. "And some of that apple pumpkin bread."

The barista handed him his order, money exchanged hands, and Duke went to go find a seat by the window.

Still 100% perfectly, totally normal. He could be in any coffee shop anywhere in the world, here, give or take a few standard cultural differences. He sipped his coffee and made a little satisfied noise. Make that any good coffee shop in the world, that was a nice brew. He leaned back in his seat, cradling his mug to his chest.

He didn't trust a damn bit of it. Something, at any moment, was about to try to break his brain again.

He would be ready.

So, Norman had a class on Tuesday mornings first thing, now, which meant that he was maybe a little bit late getting to work. Which meant that the moment the door was open, he was being bowled over by a three-headed dog who had been waiting, darn it for Norman to get there and he'd been ages and ages longer than he usually was, which meant that the first hour of Norman's shift was spent catching up on playtime with all three heads, and while he certainly didn't mind catching up on playtime - dogs were pretty great, even when all three excitable heads shared one bonus excitable butt that had a tendency to knock over displays when that tail got to wagging - it did mean that he essentially lost a whole morning of work, and he had stuff to do.

Studying, mostly. It wasn't like the magic shop was a terribly busy shop, either, with the exception of the cat who still sometimes came in to do shopping for the ghost who liked incense burned in the graveyard, even though Norman still hadn't figured out how he managed to get that incense lit.

And he was too polite to ask, really.

He did manage to get a NOW HIRING sign up in the window, though! It didn't really feel like much of an accomplishment, but it did involve him actually talking to people if anyone wanted a job, so. A+ gold star business management skills right there, right?

Right.

Man, he was really going to have to think about switching his shift from Tuesdays, though.

Much as the past summer had made it clear to Ender that staying off-island - keeping the kids safe - had been the best option, he also felt strangely regretful about it. No, Fandom had never been home, but then neither had been any other place. To be submersed in all of that again, though-- it was tempting, in a way.

Unique experiences.

But now that they were leaving, he found himself missing little of it. Except for this: the hot chocolate. And so an hour or so before their portal was due, Ender found himself back on the island, sitting at a small table at the Perk, near the window.

Sipping a large hot chocolate with swirls of whipped cream on top.

Watching the people around him move about their lives, and thinking about the transience of it all.

Delirium and Barnabas were out for a wander. She'd checked the island for weirdness, looking under logs and rocks but the only weird thing she'd found were some particularly colorful snails that she'd watched go about their tiny snaily slimy business for awhile.

Things on the island seemed to be back to what passed for normal around here. There wasn't anything bad, so far as she could tell. That was good. She didn't like bad. Especially not the kind of bad she couldn't make be some sort of good if she thought positive enough and maybe tickled it. Bad kind of bad that stayed bad was.. bad.

Finding her way to the Perk, she wandered inside. Barnabas went with her. He was an aide dog and besides, there wasn't a sign saying he couldn't and even if there had been Delirium would have just turned it to bubbles and then there wouldn't have been. She squinted up at the menu first with one eye and then the other but the words stayed the same. The barista gave her a very patient look and waited.

"Um. Could I have a hot chocolate for me with a leeeetle beeeety beeet of coffee in?" she asked, holding her thumb and forefinger up to show how much a leeeetle beeeety beeet truly was. "And could I have a beer for my doggy?"

"We don't serve beer here, m'am," the barista said patiently. Delirium considered the problem and looked at Barnabas. "I'll have some tea in a saucer if you don't mind," Barnabas said for himself. Del just shrugged, "And that." When it came time to pay, she pulled a handful of colorful bills from her pocket and put them on the counter to pick out the ugly only-shades-of-green ones. Then she did some maths until she had the right number of bills and pushed it across the counter, stuffing the rest of the random monies back into her pocket. Quite pleased with her effort. The barista patiently gave her the change but she tipped it into the tip jar because that's what you do with change and she put one of the colorful bills in as well just to make it prettier inside the jar. Probably nobody needed a Zimbabwe One Hundred Trillion Dollar note but now they'd have one, in case maybe they did.

She took her drink and Barnabas' and found a table where she could watch everything. It was a nice night for it. People were out there and monsters weren't. That was a good start to any night.

[Open Perk is open. Del needed to be more active.]

This week? Was driving Prompto crazy. Truth be told, this whole summer was making him crazy, and every day was like a new roller coaster of anxiety and pent up energy and horrible crippling fear, and it was reaching a point where he wasn't sure if he could take it anymore. But there wasn't much he could do about it outside of just hitching a portal back to Insomnia, but, what? What he going to do that every single time?

Well, he could, but he'd feel pretty shitty about.

But what else could he do? Something fun, something silly, something that could be done in the daytime hours before the sirens but that wasn't necessarily outside that would remind them of everything, but wasn't in the dorms, either, because he was feeling a little closed in and trapped and claustrophobic about the place this week...

Then he had an idea, and it was pretty dumb and dorky and kind of lame, but (spoiler alert!) HE was pretty dumb and dorky and kind of lame (SHOCKER, right?), so it worked, and he hit up the emails and the texts to his fellow students:

S'up, everyone!

I don't know about you guys, but this week is feeling all KINDS of BLAH for me, so I got to thinking: I'm gonna do something about it! Kind of. I'm talking Fast Eddie's, pizza, bowling, arcade games, BOOM. Something that's decidedly NOT all doom and gloom and creepy monsters. And early, so the people who need to can get back well before the sirens go off again, and everyone else? Bring your weapons, we can have, like, a super raid party on the way back!!!

Anyway, I'm going to be there either way. Hopefully you'll all be there, too! DON'T MAKE ME EAT ALL THIS PIZZA BY MYSELF!!!

--Prompto!!

And, as the message said, he was there, either way, getting in a few warm-up practice shots before too many people showed up (assuming anyone even will, but, whatever, he was going to have fun and a million leftovers if no one did!), wrinkling his nose at the bowling shoes because he sort of like them for how weird the color combos were, but, man, did they make his ankles look small when he was used to wearing boots all the time!

[[ work is pretty chill this morning and I'm bored af (famous last words!), plus a couple of bottles thrown into the recycling bin sounded like bowling pins to me, so here we are! Invitations went out to all students, but it's a public place, so come on in, anybody! No OCD because that would take me a million years; let chaos reign, I guess! woo! ]]
myownface: The rainbow Pride flag (Pride)
[personal profile] myownface
There was a tradition on Fandom Island, for Pride. The island herself upheld it every year thus far, making a beautiful rainbow arc across the sky for the whole of the weekend. This year was no different; a rainbow, in full colour, reached up and stretched itself clear across the sky, and as it did so, a brilliant blue crept across the sky with it, and then down, until the blue touched the tips of the trees and green started to spread out, as well.

By the time the rainbow had finished his arc across the sky, the entire island was in beautiful, vibrant colour again, just in time for the parade.

Like last year, the parade itself was to start on the Causeway, follow Griffin Lane to Galactica Drive, Serendipity Place, Godiva Street, back onto Serendipity until it turned into Loon, then Chimera. Then one final turn onto Apocalypse before ending up at the Park, where there would be a picnic shortly after!

The weather was great, the island was bright, and there was no small amount of Pride today! Time for a parade!

Where was Zack?

Who could say, really? There were kittens and puppies, birds and fish and hamsters and rabbits. Up on the roof, as always, there were chickens. Heck, there was even a duck wandering around the floor today that somebody had brought in with a hurt wing, so the vet had splinted it and was keeping an eye on its recovery before seeing if it was okay to be set free.

But Zack?

... Well, if you looked really closely in the puppy playpen, one might catch glimpses of a grown man being smothered under dozing dogs of every shape and size, the surrounding area showing signs of well-used tennis balls and squeaky things and rope-tug toys.

What a way to go.

No more vampires, new students day had come and gone and the island still seemed to be standing...

Sparkle was in a pretty good mood today as he opened shop.

Right up until he remembered why he had been in a not so great mood last Sunday.

"What do you mean my order is still unaccounted for?" A long pause. "Wait, what chemtrails?!"

This was his life now.

[OOC: Open!]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
There was some sort of big ruckus on the island, but it wasn't the time for new people to arrive -Del knew that much-; whatever else was going on was gathering people. Well, it didn't have anything to do with her, or it did but she wasn't actually aware of that. Either way she didn't need to worry about it.

Or she did, but she wasn't. Delirium's logic was by default the best one ever.

She was much more interested trying to decide whether Led Zeppelin tasted better than Deep Purple.

Groovy Tunes is open~

[The OCD went to the Meet & Greet to find his Mama OCD and Papa OCD, so we are OCD free today!]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
The outside of Groovy Tunes was a War Zone; Zombie Flying Piranhas versus Fishies in 3D.

At least none of them was entering the store, since Del's army of fishes was actually winning the fight. And Delirium? She was actually cheering the fishes from behind the store; sure she could turn them into pop corn, but for that she would need to remember that she actually could pull such a trick; for now, she was going to hide there and wait until it was over.

But the store was totally open!

[Open! And the OCD ran away because dude, piranhas]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
Delirium had found a couple of magazines, and had been entertaining herself with them for the time being. She had seen Jono playing, but honestly, there was no way she could do something besides leaving everyone in town deaf for a week. Maybe she should get one of those funny looking guitars? She had been earning money, after all.

Maybe she could even buy the game...

Groovy Tunes was open, with Metallica on the background.

[Open!]
furnaceface: (Default)
[personal profile] furnaceface
Jonothon had done it again. He'd gotten up and out of bed, and he'd made his way into town (with his guitar, yes), and to the Groovy Tunes, where, with the exception of about an hour during the day that he was going to take off for class instead of the lunch break that he never needed, he would be around.

All day. Probably well past close, just because he could.

There was a Now Hiring sign up in the door, and Jono was behind the counter, idly picking at his guitar. And if he happened to give a special sort of reverence to Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, then what of it?

The Groovy Tunes is open.

[And, as always, the OCD has been run through the paper shredder.]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
It was silent in Groovy Tunes, and Delirium looked pretty much...regular. Or as regular as someone hidding its head under a magazine and pretending to be sleeing could be.

Still, she had a job to do. It was amazing how she had managed to remember that. She wasn't sure of how she felt, or how she would feel later -she wasn't quite sure at any time, but now? less than ever-, but if anyone came, she would do her best. For Death. For Didi.

Groovy Tunes was open, but bear with the depressed girl on the counter.
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
Delirium was shamelessly asleep in the counter.

Over her, a circle of goldfishes danced in perfect synchronization, singing a little tune. Actually, each one of them singed a different tune. Was that Whole Lotta Love?

Groovy Tunes was...open?

At least Del didn't snore.

[No, really, it is open]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
The store was still there.

Good!

Not that the little Endless had noticed much of anything; she had made her way from her cabin to the town lost in whatever wacky thoughts she had, unadvertedly walking around the gaps in Fandom and making more than one narrow escape without even looking at the floor. Really, it was close to being a normal day for her but

(Didi was missing)

Delirium lifted her head from the counter. The thought hadn't crossed her mind yet, but yes, she couldn't feel Didi on the island. she couldn't feel a number of people in the island. That made her sad.

Everyone was having an adventure without her, so they better got her souvenirs.

Groovy tunes was open, let's hope no rabid dog tries to enter the store.

[No OCD, and lies, if anyone wants to hide from the Groaners or anything else that's creepy inside of the store, do so!]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
There was a Del behind the counter.

There were a couple of CDs opened in front of her, and  a flashlight.

Obviously, Delirium was playing making light with them, seeing the rainbow on the wall, her hair mimicking the colors. Well, not that she knew or cared about her hair.

But suddenly, all the lights reflected on the wall went black. Del frowned. Was she seeing things again? "Colors, colors", muttered as the rainbow appeared again.

It was a normal day at Groovy tunes, with a never ending track of Bossa & Stones or the appropriate metasounding in the background. And lights on the wall went black again.

Groovy Tunes was open.
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
So after the thrill of the first day, Delirium was comfortably resting behind the counter, making a small castle with compacts. What had began like something pretty innocent was already looking like a complicated structure, and with enough time Del would probably start making rooms and extending the castle to impossible proportions. Unless someone entered and released her from the supposed boredom. She wanted to attend someone!

For that matter, Del had put a sign outside of the store, bright letters shifting colors pretty much like her own hair:

Tell a joke to Insanity,
Earn a surprise if you make it laugh
50% of discount if it's a new joke

Groovy Tunes was open~

[OCD-less because...just look at the colors :P]
[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com
Del was feeling a little restless on her first day at work, and weirdly enough, it wasn't because of the job, no; she felt like she needed to be somewhere else. Maybe she could send some fishies to look for Dream? She wasn't sure she could pick up his presence of the island, mainly because it had never occurred to her that the Endless could do that -and since they had the sigils for a reason, the youngest Endless had forgotten that fact-. But she had to stay put and do her job. Delirium working would usually imply her chasing very visible music notes at the back of the store, but not today. Today she was bouncing behind the corner, looking at the door unsure of what to expect. She could totally leave a fishie on charge, they were so smart!

And yet she doubted the fishie would be able to give change to the costumes.

All in all, Groovy Tunes was open.

[Open store is open, but interactions would happen after Del/Didi/Dream interaction~]

Well, this was it, then. This was the business that Jono had more or less inherited, since Alice's leaving the island. And, as far as he was aware, the sum of the parts of Groovy Tunes was Jono, a building, and the music.

This probably had to be remedied. Businesses like this didn't exactly run themselves, after all, and so even if Jono would quite happily spend every waking hour of every day here, there was a sign in the window, looking about as flashy as Jono could possibly make it.

Which meant that the sheet of scrap looseleaf with the words "HELP WANTED" scrawled on it in black sharpie was also decorated with little music note stickers. They were scratch-and-sniff and smelled like blueberry.

It counted.

Ino would be lying if she said that her head didn't hurt from several conversations that she'd had in the last few days. On one hand, she had to admit that it was keeping her busy which was… better than the alternative, on the other… part of her felt bad about wanting to stay busy so that she didn't have to think about things.

It was a peculiar situation, she decided, silently rearranging some of the displays as the radio played softly. No singing today, no.

Luke was new to town, but that didn't mean he was going to let not knowing how things work around here stop him from his usual activities. It was Fourth of July and there were two things you should do on that day: Watch that movie with Will Smith in it and light some sparklers on fire. He had already done the former and, now that it was getting dark, it was time to blow up shiny things.

He had found a spot on the beach where he wouldn't burn anything down, made a bonfire and then snapped up whatever fireworks he could think of. Sparklers, Roman Candles, Wheels, Snakes, Parachutes, and even some of the bigger ones that may have been less than legal in this country (he was debating on whether or not he'd light those). Truly a pyromaniac's dream come true.

Luke snapped up some burgers and sodas and he was ready to celebrate July 4th in style.

Another Tuesday, another shift at the Groovy Tunes!

... Though, now that Jono had two classes on Tuesdays, he was seriously considering if he ought to perhaps talk to Alice about switching his shift to another day of the week. Sure, he worked clear through his lunch break every week anyhow, but having to shut the shop down twice a day was bound to become a pain in the arse, and swiftly.

At least he could pull out his guitar to keep him occupied between classes. And there weren't any rules about staying a few hours late to make up for the rest of the time he'd missed, right?

Her personal taste in just so lead to some overcrowded displays, full of Disney artifacts, chocolate, and floppy hats, but at least she was keeping herself busy and happy.

Squishy flavors: White Chocolate Macademia, Snickerdoodle (Not People), Snickerdoodle (People).
