Beauty was at the counter today, but deeply immersed in a copy of Candide. If someone could get her attention, she'd be happy to assist them.

[ooc: Super busy catching up on work today, so replies will be slooooow.]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty was having One of Those Days.

Which at the moment was manifesting itself in a struggle with the Sorting Machine, which was turning all the mail into full-color campaign advertisements, and had to be coaxed into turning them back. One letter at a time.

So there was a sign on the counter: Please use the Post Box.

[ooc: I am also having One of Those Days, so Beauty is not going to be around for interaction today. Please mod the Post Box.]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
If Beauty had ever discovered the wonder of the iPod, she'd have been bouncing along behind the counter to some kind of peppy music.

She hadn't, however, so instead she was doing the next best thing -- humming to herself and translating Greek.

Yes, this is Beauty's idea of fun.

[ooc: I have a work project today that may take up a lot of my time and brainpower, so responses from me will probably range from extremely slow to almost nonexistent.]

So, there they were. The rescheduling of the date that was actually even confirmed as a date and not just something hanging there in ambiguity. A.J. even held the door open for Beauty as they arrived at Fast Eddie's, although he probably would have done something like that, anyway. "So what do you think?" he asked her as they moved in. "Bowling, video games, or something to eat first?"

[[ clearly, A.J.'s here with the permissively modded da~ate, but the bowling alley's definitely open for all your...bowling alley needs. *nod* ]]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
The cold was mostly gone, but Beauty was still feeling a little on the tired side, especially after spending the whole day out with Greatheart the day before. So although she had a book open on the counter in front of her, she was mostly leaning with her chin on her hand, staring at a spot on the floor where the light came in the window.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
No blonde hair, no guitar, no boobs; A.J. was very glad to say that these were all true. Yes, even the last one. Unfortunately, he could add 'no excuse' to his list, as well, because he somehow didn't think that Yitzhak would be entirely convinced with his excuse on why he wasn't at work on Sunday. However, part of him was also thinking Yitzhak wouldn't care. His special for the day, however, was very reflective of the entire experience:

Today's Special )

Luke's is open.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
It was time for another batch of letters home, so today Beauty was sitting behind the counter with her stationery and pens, trying to filter out the worst of the Fandom weirdness and still have something to write about.

It was slow going, so she'd be likely to welcome any distractions.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty was behind the counter at the post office, reading a book.

The post box was in its corner, doing whatever post boxes do.

Pretty much business as usual.
[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com
Yesterday's weather had worried Willow, but according to the weather report Saturday was warmer and so far snow-free.

Willow got to the Park early so she could set up. She cleared a space for dancing, set up music and some food that she'd brought along, then waited for others to show up.

[ooc: OCD a-coming Up! All are welcome. 'tis very informal in nature. And this only takes up a small part of the Park, so plenty of room for others to do Parky things without being crowded.]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty spent a little time sweeping up around the post office, just to make sure it stayed neat and appealing to customers, then settled in behind the desk with her book.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Ringing in the new year had been a quiet exercise for Beauty, who'd suddenly backed out from going to the party at the last minute (a case of unexpected nerves). Now, as she set herself up behind the counter at the post office with her writing supplies and the beginning of a letter home, she was feeling pensive, thinking about all the strange things that had happened to her in the past year, and wondering what the new one would be bringing.

She wasn't one for making resolutions, but she did promise herself to approach the coming year with an open mind and a sense of adventure.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty hadn't grown up with the flashy holiday trappings she was starting to see cropping up, but they were making her feel a little homesick anyway. So while she sat behind the counter, she composed a set of letters home. Maybe she'd ask A.J. if he'd do a quick drawing or something to include.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty was surprised to find the post office devoid of golem and cat on her arrival, and spent some time searching around before coming to the conclusion that they really were gone. It was going to take some getting used to, being there entirely alone all day.

Maybe she'd see if Annette would loan out her kitten to keep Beauty company while she worked.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
The bit of a funk Beauty had slipped into last week was clearing away now, mostly due to the invitation A.J. had made on Sunday. She had her favorite copy of the Iliad with her today, and was reading aloud to Gladys and Tiddles.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
A.J. wasn't exactly in the best of moods after yet another fallout with Annette, so most of his concentration went into his project for the specials board today. Which included filling it entirely with different colored squares of all the same size, spanning from one end to the other.

Luke's is open.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Since she had no way of going home for the holiday -- and since her family didn't celebrate this one anyway -- Beauty had spent the long weekend quietly and handwavily in her room or with Greatheart. She felt like she had quite a few things to think about.

Now she greeted Gladys and coaxed Not Tiddles out for some pettings, and then settled in behind the counter with a book, unless of course someone stopped in for postal assistance.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Feeling intensely stupid for the confusion and assumptions she had made after meeting an adult A.J. on Monday, and deeply worried about the fact that her roommate had been in the clinic for a frightenly long time, Beauty silently took up her place behind the counter and buried her nose in a book.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
Hey, it was Sunday. He was here in Fandom again, so why not swing by the old dig that added to the long line of counter-jockeying that A.J. would spend his life doing waiting for his works to really pick up? Mosey on down, hop behind the counter and see what's changed in the last couple of decades.

...Which, apparently, wasn't much at all. "Huh," A.J. commented, looking around, and then...

"Oooh, special's board." Delightfully blank and waiting. Time to get to work.

Luke's is open.

Christian was upset when he found out one of the kids had died the day before and was pissed at himself for taking the day off. The island had been through a lot while he'd been here, but one of the kids dying was unacceptable. He was frustrated by his inability to reach anyone outside the island. No ordering more supplies, no consulting with contagious disease experts. If it had only been the adults sick he might have been trying to head for the hills to save his own ass, but he wasn't about to abandon the kids. They had to find a way to stop this. Especially because now a baby was sick.

Wilson had gotten a briefing from Troy before coming in today and had already shut down his OMGWTFPlllllaaaggggguuuuueee response in favor of being able to actually function as a doctor.

Slipping a mask over his mouth almost immediately, he grabbed up charts and began to walk through the cots, getting an update on everyone's status. Next up would be making sure the volunteers were organized and that people who were sitting bedside vigil were taking care of themselves and not starting to show symptoms

These dreams were starting to wear on Beauty's nerves. Last night's had featured a dark forest, like the one outside Blue Hill, filled with the howls of wolves. (Beauty had never even seen a wolf, where did this idea keep coming from, she wondered.)

So today she was writing letters, in hopes that it was simply a bout of homesickness that could be cured by writing home. She even had her colored pens out, to draw another picture for the babies.

Gladys was quietly in her corner with a magazine that Beauty thought was either about pastries or shoes, but she couldn't tell which, and Not Tiddles was hiding under the counter and occasionally swiping at Beauty's feet.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty wasn't familiar with modern Halloween traditions, so she wasn't wearing a costume when she stumbled into the post office, just a little bit late. Unless you consider being dressed like a girl from the twenty-first century, in which case she was definitely in costume, but unintentionally so.

Frankly, she was lucky she managed to get dressed and make it to work. Her head was pounding so badly she thought it might explode. So after mumbling a good morning to Gladys, Beauty climbed up on her stool behind the counter, laid her head down on her arms, and began to pray for a huge rock to fall out of the sky and crush her.

Dick had his laptop sitting on the bar today and was busy bidding on Caritas on eBay. Tino asked Dick if he was planning to do any work today. Dick suggested that Tino should perform sexual intercourse upon his own person. Only in less words.

Dick added a bid of "$156.72 and the guarantee to be the ass part of a pantomime horse costume whenever needed."

Monday morning, and Tink was not that hung over for once. Oh miracle! Oh joy! Had she learned restraint at last?

No, she'd just drank her way through Squall's tequila and found herself too bored to fly to the store for more.

There was absinthe here. She would be liquored up in no time.

Pixie Dust was ever so fabulously open.
[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com
After taking care of Dick for the weekend, Annette was surprised she didn't end up sick herself. But it was worth being around him and helping him because she thought he was feeling much better by last night.

She was in a pretty good mood coming into work this morning, and greeted Gladys and petted Not Tiddles, before she settled herself behind the counter to do post office-y stuff.

A bowl of candy corn was set out on the counter as well as miniture Reeses, Snickers, and Hershey's kisses wrapped in orange and dark brown foil. Yum. She would seriously try to keep her hands out of the candy bowls.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty had been awakened by another strange dream this morning, and it had clouded her mood. She'd had to struggle to pay attention in her morning class, and by the time she had the bookshop open for the afternoon, all she wanted was to curl up in the chair and read, and not be bothered by anyone.

A little part of her grumped that if A.J. wasn't busy painting her room, he could have maybe brought her a milkshake. Then the greater part of her scolded that little part for being petty and ungrateful, considering that painting was being done for her.

Maybe things would be quiet, like they'd been at the post office on Wednesday. And then she could go back to her room and slip into bed.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Yesterday had been an enjoyable and intensely interesting day in a still being played kind of way, and Beauty went about opening up the post office deep in thought. She patted Not Tiddles absently on the head, and waved with a smile at Gladys, before drawing up her stool behind the counter and leaning her chin on her hand.

She'd be happy to help visitors with their postal needs, although they might have to ask twice to get her attention.

[ETA: Beauty is, as usual, not around during second period.]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
With all the excitement of parents weekend, Beauty almost forgot that she was supposed to be starting her new job. She rushed down to the bookshop and hurriedly opened it, then threw herself down in a chair by the window where she could watch people go by.

[ooc: OMG super crazy day for me today, so please be prepared for massive SP.]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty walked into the post office in a distracted mood, waved absently at Gladys, ignored Not Tiddles completely, and sat down on her stool behind the counter. She had a book -- Euripides' Medea, which was possibly not a very good choice for her mood today -- but she was mostly just staring at the same page anyway.

The thought crossed her mind that maybe Willow or Andrew knew some kind of magic that could turn a person into an animal permanently. Things had been a whole lot easier when she was a kitten.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
Everyone was entitled to a bad day, right? Well, today, A.J. just wasn't feeling it and was a little mopey behind the counter, most just nursing cup after cup of coffee and stared a little at the wall, thinking it could use some new paint. The specials were a good indication of his mood:

Today's Specials
Some fish thing
Something healthy-ish with brocolli
Coffee, black

He sighed. It wasn't like he wanted to feel this way, but...ugh. Dammit, his roommate was a freaking idiot.

Luke's is mopey open.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Armed with the book of fairy tales in Latin that Andrew had given her, Beauty arrived at the post office. She checked to be sure everything was running smoothly, exchanged 'good mornings' with Gladys, and managed to coax Not Tiddles out to play with a length of knotted string.

Then she took her place behind the counter and began working on translating a story about a princess with an unusual medical condition into English.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
As the sketchbook discarded in the grass might have suggested, A.J. had come out to the park to do some sketch work, probably to work on the graphic novel or brush up his realism for his *ahem* brilliant new series. But, as indicated by the fact that he was flat on his back, limbs slightly sprawled and letting out the occasional happy sigh, there wasn't any work being done. Apparently, lying in bed all morning hadn't been enough relaxation, but, really, he was just in a really great mood. Life was good, and he just wanted to enjoy it for a bit. Things didn't usually stay this good for him, so, yeah, he was going to make sure he reveled in it a little before he messed something up again.

[[ posted with a particular person in mind, but open for all your park or A.J.-bothering needs. up early because of work later ]]

After two days of not leaving the dorms, Beauty needed to be outside. And for some reason, the beach sounded like just the place to spend her afternoon. So she left her boots on a rock to keep them out of the sand and went for a walk along the edge of the water, enjoying the squish of the wet sand between her toes and the cold lap of water washing over her feet. And trying hard not to think about anything in particular.

[ooc: OPEN! ETA: Due to a particular couple of discussions she had this morning, Beauty's a bit on the emo side.]
[identity profile] misshargrove.livejournal.com
Annette slept too much this weekend if that was possible; she was awake and ready to go today, sipping on a hot white chocolate mocha and occassionally talking to Not Tiddles who was sprawled on the counter as was her norm.

She set out a bowl of candy corn and placed the bell on the counter with a note that read: Ring me for service. Didn't matter that she was right there behind the counter. Sometimes she just liked to hear the diiiiing.

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

A series of tents (in various sizes) and covered walkways had sprung up all over the park by midday. There were lots of open spaces, but one could easily get to any part of the carnival without venturing out into the sunlight. The sounds and smells reached all inhabited parts of the island and it was hard to miss all of the bright colors.

Beauty breezed into the post office, scritched Not Tiddles behind the ears and waved at Gladys, and made a quick check to be sure the Sorting Engine was doing its job. Then she settled herself behind the counter with a stack of books, including the H volumes of the encyclopedia.

She also had a copy of a glamour magazine she'd found. Beauty hadn't quite decided if she was girly enough to read it yet, though.
[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com
Andrew opened the store, took out a stack of catalogs, and began looking at suits and tuxes. Someone was a little excited about Homecoming.

The Magic Box is open!
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
Clearly, A.J. was feeling very much in his usual groove of things as there was not a special to be seen on the specials board, but, instead, a whole confectionary explosion of what looked almost like flowers, but it was hard to tell with the sharp sorts of angles that they took, with bright colors that clashed and collided with each other. And A.J.'s fingers were still itching after he'd made the board a fragmented, fractal floral arrangement so the sketchbook was out on the counter and he was filling pages faster than it took for him to burn an order. Which was pretty fast, you know.

Luke's is open.
[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com
Andrew woke up this morning and realized that he was indeed not an evil wizard. Honestly, he felt a little disappointed. He was also totally weirded out by the fact that he had voluntarily gone to the gym to shoot baskets.

So he decided to get out of the dorms for a bit to ponder life and write some letters. He was sitting in the middle of the park, pen in hand, staring at a blank piece of paper.

[ooc: Post and park are open!]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Beauty decided that it was time to start making friends with the denizens of the post office. Gladys still unnerved her, so she was starting with the cat.

Unfortunately for Not Tiddles, Beauty's method of making friends with animals tended to be to read at them. Which meant Not Tiddles was being treated to a lively rendition of The Encyclopedia Brittanica, Volume Aa - An.

Poor Not Tiddles.

[ooc: Beauty is away during second period, please mod Gladys during that time.]
[identity profile] ladycfitzgerald.livejournal.com
Anne had a notebook and several pens in hand as she opened the bookstore today, thankfully without the spectre of ominous cake-headed-monster dreams to taint it. (But then, last week's mortification had certainly been enough.)

Tea and pastries carefully set out -- and artfully adorned with a few flowers and branches gathered in the park on her way over -- she settled herself in a chair by the window to work on a list of recommended reading for Beauty.

It was going to be a very long list.

[OOC: HI guess who just woke up? Oops. I shall be running out to do errands from about 5-6:30 EST but around otherwise.]
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
A.J. was in a pretty good mood today. No, he was actually in a great mood today. So great, in fact, that he was going to try his hand at work in the kitchen.

...That lasted about twenty minutes, until the kitchen staff threw A.J. out of the kitchen doors with a copious amount of black smoke. "Aw, come on, guys! Like you've never burnt anything before!"

He sighed; he wasn't going to let that ruin his good day. But he did make an adjustment to the specials board so that everything was either Blackened or Charred, because he intended to keep try.

Luke's is open.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
The weather was too beautiful to spend it indoors, even with the window open. So Beauty took the last of her writing paper, a book, and her new pens out to the park. Finding a nice shady spot under a tree, she worked on finishing up her second batch of letters home.

She was also experimenting a little with her new pens. Grace's letter was written half in blue before it occurred to Beauty that she could switch up and finish it in purple. Hope's letter started out purple, experienced a brief red phase before it was determined that red would make a better color for margin notes than full-out correspondence, and then switched back to purple. Now Beauty was working on the letter for her father, which was being written in nice respectable black.

[OPEN like an open thing is open!]
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
Her discussion with A.J. earlier in the day had put it into Beauty's mind to go riding. Not just a quiet meandering down one of the trails in the preserve, but some real exercise for Greatheart, who was probably languishing of boredom -- or beginning to grow fat and lazy.

She found herself drawn to the beach, and quickly fell in love with the way the air smelled as it whipped past, and the muffled sound of her horse's hooves in the sand as they galloped along the edge of the water.

[ooc: OPEN!]
[identity profile] wannabe-pan.livejournal.com
Andrew unlocked the door and said, "Arrgh. The store be open!"

His pirate accent was pretty sad.
[identity profile] comelyhonour.livejournal.com
She'd just mailed a packet of letters, and now Beauty already had new ones to write. Wondering if that was going to be the case every week, and marvelling at apparently newfound tolerance for socializing, she sat behind the desk of the post office and began a brand new set of letters home.

The post office is open for business.
[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com
A.J. hung back a little, leaning against a wall with one foot up as he looked over the ice cream choices to figure out what sounded good while he waited for Beauty. He tried to think of what it would be like to not really know ice cream and was finding it...pretty much impossible. This was going to be very, very interesting. He grinned. Should maybe start with something simple. And sprinkles. He'd have to insist she got sprinkles.

[[ AJ's meeting with [livejournal.com profile] comelyhonour as the post says, but open for all your ice cream needs! Up early to spam the comm attempt to get the most bang out of our SP dollar ]]
