Well. Summer and Shunsui had had their sake and steamed buns (and
far too many S's), and now she was coming into the store with her laptop and a big fat check to get some paper moving and seal the deal. And she wasn't sure how she felt about it, either. Sure, she knew she was eventually going to try to sell the store or at least pass most of the responsibilities onto someone else and actually
leave this planet, this galaxy, this
universe completely, and she knew it was going to happen
soon, but she maybe wasn't expecting it
so soon? But it was the end of summer, her ship was almost ready to go, all she had left was to find a location for her new shop, and now she even had the money (and it was a
lot of money, almost staggering, where the hell did Shunsui get that kind of money, anyway? Did she even
want to know?) for it. Everything was just falling perfectly into place.
And she kind of hated it, because everything falling perfectly into place meant that everything was going to be set in motion soon and she was
not ready.
But she also knew she never truly
would be ready. So all she could do was really buckle down, shut up, and get to work, because delaying the inevitable only just made things harder.
It didn't help that Apu was going to be sending the whole day giving her long-suffering sighs and glares, too.
"Don't give me that look," she said. "You knew this was going to happen eventually, and, hey, it's not like you don't know what you're getting into, you've worked with him before, right? And the store stayed in one piece under his watch last time, didn't it? He can't be
that bad, and, even if he is, you've still got Amaya around, too, right? You know she'll help out if she can..."
He looked wholly unconvinced, but Summer just shrugged. "It is what it is, man. I don't see you stepping up with a big fat check right now, you know, but I'd be willing to take an offer if you got one."
He did not.
"Didn't think so."
