Fixer-Uppers [Wednesday]

There was fiddle music filtering in through a speaker somewhere. William didn't know where, exactly, as several minutes of fruitless (...literally, there was no random fruit today) searching had him no close to discovering the source of the music.

At least it wasn't unpleasant, he mused, as he set to work taking apart one of the bits of tech he'd managed to bring back from the island's new neighbour.

[ooc: blah blah work in an hour blah. though i may actually be home early today due to job action shenanigans?]

"Four amendments left, and only two weeks," Alex said, setting her cup of tea down on her desk. "Three of them are largely procedural, so they're going to be saved for next week. This week, we're tackling the big one, even if it doesn't look like much of a big one."

Post Office, Wednesday

Another week, another strange location, and another strange visitor from the mainland.

This time, it was a disgruntled-looking merchant trying to contact a debtor who'd disappeared leaving a large bill behind. He seemed to think that the strange island would be able to deliver the letter better than the Pony Express, and Rude just shrugged and didn't argue. He didn't have any idea how far Hill Valley, California, was from this part of Colorado, after all. He ALSO wasn't sure what kind of postal code "AD1985" was.

When Lion-o got to work, he found most of the staff milling around outside as the busboy asked if Lion-o had brought his sword with him. "Why would I need a sword? There's nothing invading the island today as far as I can tell," asked Lion-o, who had a very bad feeling that he didn't want to know.

One of the cooks opened the door and a potato flew out, hitting Lion-o in the face. Yes, it was definitely one of those days. It took Lion-o half an hour to capture and crate all of the disobedient potatos.

In a refreshing change from the last few weeks, Kate was actually at work today. And she totally had not considered skipping again just to keep hiding from people. Because she totally hadn't spent the last two days she'd been on the island cooped up in her alcove. Nope.

... Look, it was still better than her reaction to everything last Monday. At least she was around, and at work. Not that she was working, unless looking at photos of her and Bod's room at Charmaine's house on her phone counted.

The scowling box office guy didn't think it did.

There were plenty of interesting things about their current location, but when Alexander came into work that day, he realized that one of them was definitely the fact that there were a lot more things in the store. It seemed that, whoever was supplying the place these days, they had gotten a bit excitable about the authentic relics around them and had stocked the store accordingly.

Alexander had a dull interest in many of them, but nothing quite struck him until he got to a whole box full of spurs, and then he got to thinking of picking out a pair of boots...

...hmmm, and now he wondered if he should throw some chaps...

He shall have to consider this.

Nathan wasn't coming to Caritas alone tonight. Ramona had turned into a fucking blue chick right in front of him and even he wasn't that big of a dickhead to leave her alone in her alcove. So, he'd carried the blue chick to Caritas and was letting her walk around on the counter while he poured himself a drink.

Tino started scowling when he poured some whiskey in a saucer and put the blue chick in front of it. Tino kept scowling when Ramona started drinking it and Nathan just started laughing. He wouldn't let her drink enough to harm her but come on, maybe she wanted to wet her beak!

More often than not, Sam found himself out of the cabins during the evening hours. He didn't mind the small space (his previous apartment had been pretty damn small) or the people in his cabins but he missed things like hitting the streets of Seattle with just his board and his thoughts and riding until his feet ached.

He didn't miss werewolf attacks and while he couldn't rule that out here (which he would have found weird a few months ago), he didn't think anyone was going to come after him on purpose. It made riding his board up and down the boardwalk easier. Riding here, unlike Seattle, meant he could smell the salty air and hear the nearby ocean. The ambiance was pretty damn sweet, he had to admit.

And that ambiance was helping distract Sam away from the fact that Brooke had appeared as soon as he'd started riding and was currently jogging next to him, taking advantage of her ghostly form since it meant she didn't get winded.

"I'm not gonna leave you alone until you tell me about the Council meeting," she kept saying, cutting back and forth in front of him so much that Sam actually worried about hitting and hurting her which was just dumb.

"Not now," he muttered, shaking his head. "I'm kinda busy, Brooke."

"Kinda busy?" Brooke repeated, getting in front of him and running backwards. "Hey, I didn't have a body for awhile and I still made time for you!"

Sam grimaced and said, "Low blow, Brooke. Low blow."

She kept poking and Sam kept avoiding. It was a familiar push and pull.

[post is open and brooke won't be visible to anyone unless they can see ghosts or they get close enough to sam and brooke happens to stick around. if you can't see brooke, feel free to see sam jabbering to the air.]

Jessica was perched on a stool at the bar, trying very hard not to look at the cowboys who had wandered into the club. She was feeling very hungry lately, and TruBlood just wasn't cutting it. How hard would it be to glamour one of them and sneak out and....no no no no.

Instead, she tried to focus on the book she'd picked up. "There is no solace in this place. I struggle to find it, but it eludes me. I have drifted through this castle like a specter, seeking to find one shred of comfort. This place is death. It reeks of it. Tastes of it. I can hear its cries on the wind, and I cannot hide from its cold touch. How very odd that this sad little journal, with its tattered pages and frayed binding, should be my only companion."

Jessica snorted. "You should blog instead," she said to the narrator. "Then you'll get readers to interact with." Which reminded her, she should do an update soon.
