It smelled distractingly like chocolate in here today, and for no discernible reason. The thing was, it wasn't a pervasive kind of smell; it wasn't as if you could walk through the front door right into a (figurative) wall of the scent of chocolate. It was just that every now and then Éponine would catch a whiff of chocolate, and then she had to stop what she was doing and try to find the source.

As far as she could tell, there was no source.

She ended up stopping at the Perk for the largest mocha they had, just to spite the mysterious chocolate scent, on her way back from a delivery run, and considered that if it was some kind of evil plot to get her to buy a mocha it was a devious and highly successful one.

She admired that, really.

Kitty got to work today to find Easter candy strewn all over the bar. Which was weird, if sort of nice because Jewish or not, hey, free chocolate, but the disturbing thing was that anytime she found a chocolate bunny, its head had been bitten off. Just the head. On every single one.

Tino got there after her and insisted he had nothing to do with it, so Kitty was just going to leave the bunnies alone today. But if you wanted free chocolate, this was the place to be.

It was an uncharacteristically cheerful Celia who opened up the shop today, humming off-key as she straightened the magical items she was still figuring out how to even use. She'd brought her books with her, of course, since she was still at work and that was technically magic she was reading about, and maybe she'd actually find answers here, too.

But her mind wasn't on the contract or the challenge or impending doom at all, and she actually managed to break a crystal as she was sweeping and humming to herself today out of carelessness -- which was unusual in and of itself, since she was never distracted, and usually only broke things with magic, not by knocking them over.

It was okay. It only took her about fifteen minutes to put it back together absolutely perfectly, and that was only because her mind wasn't really on it. She'd get back to focusing at some point, probably, but for now she was just going to enjoy the first really good mood she'd had in weeks, thank you.

It was actually a pleasantly laid-back shift today at the Book Haven. Sure, there was a new shipment of cookbooks in today for Evan to go through, but there were no huge mix-ups tucked away in there. He didn't open any boxes to see nearly eighty of the same novel, and while cookbooks weren't exactly light, it wasn't as though they were difficult to sort.

And maybe he was occasionally stopping to see if he could find any recipes that he could recognize. Just because his Ma's cooking was never real didn't mean he didn't miss it.
