Given the completely lukewarm reaction she'd gotten from Zack over text, Iris had taken the hint and not even bothered to go, well, it wasn't home, but to the apartment over the Boards. She hadn't really slept either, having headed over to her (her?) shop to inspect what was going on there.

The reality of it was a far cry from her memories, which confused her until she realized that, having been gone so long… well, it was really amazing there was anything to sell in the shop at all.

Maybe she'd give her minion a raise?

It was something to mull over in the wee hours of the night as she rolled up her sleeves and fell to weeding and inspecting all of her plants in what was, really, quite an impressive greenhouse for them. By the time dawn hit, she'd flipped the sign to open, shoved everything that wasn't her stuff down near the corner of shame (she appreciated the work that had gone into it, but really, she was going to have to teach her minion better) and was at work creating everything she'd need to do a full re-stock.

She'd have to talk to Zack at some point, and soon, but for the moment Iris was fine giving him his space.

A few days spent in Midgar, where things had felt equally as familiar as they were off-kilter hadn't really made her more inclined to want to leave it, but Iris had made a promise, and she did always keep those promises.

Even if the time she kept them in was no one's but her own.

But she was within her week-to-ten-days that she'd promised Zack this time. (By a hair; it was day ten.) He couldn't complain about that and she couldn't complain about having to leave Midgar, and Tseng, behind either. She did, all the time, for work.

As soon as she hit the island, Iris headed for the Perk. It was more neutral territory than the place above the Boards and she was… maybe stalling on that.

She did send off a text to Zack, though:

back on the island & hitting up the Perk. want anything?

Ino was in a contemplative mood as she double-checked the inventory and made note of what she'd have to make before she and Reno hared off for… well.

Work. It was work, really, just not officially sanctioned.

She had a lot to think about.

Silly supervised her brooding and her working with the same beady little gaze as always.

"You could help, you know," she teased her chicobo. "Zack says you think you're eight feet tall and invincible, after all."

It was the sort of night where she wanted to do nothing more than to hole herself up in her lab and just lose track of time. Given who was on the island, though, she knew better than that, and was contenting herself with figuring out what, exactly, to send back with who Reno had dubbed Silver Fox Tseng.

Ino was pretty sure that Elena—that Elena, not her Elena—would also appreciate a few things.

So even though it wasn't her usual day or her usual hours, Ino had figured there was no point in being in the store and not having it opened.

Hey, maybe she'd get herself company while she sent texts to her Elena asking if she liked spicy or floral scents better.

As was quickly becoming fine tradition in these parts, Jono's business was getting repurposed tonight for the sake of a party for Iris. Of course, today it wasn't Iris doing the repurposing. Zack had made his way back after the job fair and had pretty much gone to town decorating the stage area of the Groovy Tunes with... balloons and streamers, mostly.

Far too many balloons and streamers.

He had no idea how parties worked, okay? But since she had gone to town with his party, he felt kind of obligated to organize a party that was at least half as exciting.

So, balloons. Streamers. Cans of silly string because that seemed like a party thing? And glowsticks. Who didn't like glowsticks, right?

... Zack had flailed his way through the party prep, mostly.

Anyway, he'd sent out e-mails to pretty much everyone Iris had sent them out for his birthday (so, everybody?) and now he was kind of just sitting back and looking faintly bewildered. Zack had no idea how to party, no.

Ino cast a contemplative look up at her lab as she wandered into her shop--huh, someone, probably Sparkle, had put everything back out; nice--and resolutely settled herself down at the counter instead.

Man, Sabine had done great work, she decided, studying the impact of the new paint with her shelving.

Good, good. It was good.

Admiring it wasn't going to keep her busy for her whole shift, though, so after a bit Ino got up to restlessly pace. It just wasn't the sort of day to be mixing things up, which left her at a bit of a loss.

Ino had not quite strung the entire park with fairy lights, Chinese lanterns, streamers and balloons, but she'd come close. It was probably also best to not ask where the extra tables and chairs had come from too.

In the sunset light, she thought the set-up looked pretty good. Especially when she figured in the tables of food and drinks would keep people happy and entertained. In keeping with tradition of kidnapping things from the Boards/Groovy Tunes and apologizing to Jono later, she'd stolen the stereo.

(Honestly, it had been the easiest theft ever. All she'd had to do was mention an adventure to the park and it had unplugged itself.)

And, to crown it all off, there was a very large, very sparkly, banner that read:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZACK!!!!!

Well... Kanan had made plans to have a chat with Iris tonight, and while his evening had been... less than fantastic, he wasn't about to break those plans just because he actually wanted to be beating his head against a wall or flying into space never to be seen again or anything.

He did send her a message saying that he'd be a little late, and he was bringing his dog with him, though that hadn't been part of the plan, because... dog. He could use a little bonus grounding tonight, apparently.

He was far more quiet than usual as he walked into the warehouse. Held out a hand. Flicked on the lights from a good few feet away. Found himself a crate to sit on, and then just kind of hugged his dog for a while.

At least he was wide awake? Hera made some damn strong caf.

Another Sunday, another day in Luke's House Of Pancakes, starring the kitchen staff who, to Kanan's relief, seemed to be getting that whole 'waffle' thing out of their system so that Sundays could be pancake days, as were right and proper.

Kanan was still giving the specials board a little bit of a side-eye, though.

Welcome To Luke's!

Banana Rum Pancakes
Beer and Brown Sugar Pancakes
... And The Kitty

Summer was feeling a bit in a funk when she came into the shop that day, and when she tried to think about why, she realized that she'd probably just been working too much. She hadn't really had the chance to do anything really fun since she got back. Just work, work, work. Teach, teach, teach. Pancakes, pancakes, pancakes. Well, the pancakes were obviously fun, but it was all part of a routine and she'd gotten mired into one and she needed to shake it up a little.

Obviously, she needed to have a party.

But not, like, one of her crack-open-a-keg, whip-up-some-jello-shots, try-to-flirt-with-the-cutest-boy parties of old. That was High School Summer. And that Summer was gone, replaced by Grown-Ass Woman who Owned Her Own Store Summer. So that meant a grown-ass woman party, so, like, she didn't know, a fancy dinner party or something.

The idea took traction when she got to the store and, in her downtime, started Googling ideas (in between Googling 'How to soundproof apartment walls,' something she didn't realize she'd need to worry about until Tuesday night), and putting together an idea. She briefly considered a theme based around the awful, terrible, amazing Twitter feed Captain Rogers told her about, but she want to make friends, not drive them away (though she was pretty sure BDG and Hera would eat some of that shit right up). Maybe she could decide on a theme later, sort out the guest list for now. BDG and Hera, obviously, Dr. Lecter and Jono, Cap and Mr. Stark, but those were all couples (shut up, they were), she didn't want to be a seventh wheel at her own party, so some floaters she could think of: that Kaidan guy, the Pastor and Fjord maybe, probably Amaya...

Looking over the list she'd compiled so far, Summer frowned. She really needed to make more lady friends, too.

Eventually she just kind of got frustrated or depressed for one reason or another and then remembered that, oh, yeah, she was at work, and actually had, like, a job to do. So it was back to it, with the occasional dip into Pinterest for inspiration.

And once they had been painted, once they had dried, he reached for another bottle of nail polish and gave them another coat in a different colour.

He'd probably have to, like, stop doing that eventually. But for the time being? Hey, green went really nice right next to yellow. Maybe it went really nice right overtop of yellow...

Sabine was going to be painting in the store this weekend, so rather than put out new stock, Ino lit a few candles--pumpkin spice--and tied her hair back, then got to work on putting things away. Sure, it'd make it a bit of a pain in the ass for any customers who came in today, but it would make things easier for Sabine.

Besides, Ino was making sure to label the boxes, so if anyone needed anything, she'd be able to find it pretty quickly. It was only browsing that was going to be harder and harder as the day went on.

At the end of the day she'd stuff everything in a few scrolls and stick them in the back room.

Content with her plan--and excited to see what Sabine came up with--Ino sang along with the radio, making up the words to the songs she didn't know, as she packed and cleaned.

Some of it, she was going to foist off on Sparkle when he was up to the whole working thing and, okay, some of it was getting dumped on him because he'd made her worry. Stupid minion.

Today had been a pretty decent day, for Vette. She'd gotten dismissed from her one class today early, had gotten a decent exchange rate on the credits she had with her, and was absolutely feeling up to exploring the town to see what she was in for.

... It hadn't taken long. After spending any amount of time on Nar Shaddaa, being able to just walk for five minutes and find a clear edge to the town was novel. It wasn't long before she ended up at the Perk, and it hadn't taken her long at all from there to order the biggest, most absurd looking pastry she could find and a drink to go with it.

She had no idea what a 'pumpkin spice' was, but she liked spicy foods, and so sure, she was game.

She was still smiling as she found herself a window seat. Sure, the population of the island was largely human. That took some getting used to. But at least people watching promised to be interesting regardless.

It had been some time since Sparkle had gone… a bit overboard on cleaning and she was in the mood to do something more physical than play with chemicals and formulae.

Even tiny boss' broadcast, when she listened to it, just made her laugh.

But as the day wore on, she felt... antsy. Something uneasy slinking into her mood and try though she did, she couldn't shake it. Maybe it was because what she and Reno were going to be doing was more than a little insane. Maybe it was that. Maybe it was because Zack weren't going to be happy.

The shadows did not come suddenly. But as the morning progressed, the leaves on the trees became a little darker, and then a little darker more, as if the sun had moved faster across the horizon than it usually did.

It was only by noon that the darkness became so obvious, so unnatural, that anyone might have noticed it. It played between the trees, it tangled itself in the branches.

And on the inside, created eternal night.

Sparkle was here! Still here, yes, after his attempt to arrive in time for his Sunday shift wound up with him arriving on the island on Monday, instead. He'd spent yesterday crashed out at the apartment instead of trying to travel to Coruscant just to turn around and come back again, and now he was sitting at work with a small selection of matted and framed photos, which he was holding on to for Hernando.

He'd picked the best of the best and really only had, like, four of them framed. Apparently having things professionally framed was expensive as heck. Which was good to know. Mostly that saved the other photos for posterity, he supposed, unless these turned out to be a big hit or something.

He was getting so wrapped up in the fact that somebody liked his hands-and-tea photos that he was actually kind of forgetting why he'd taken them in the first place, so sue him.

While he passed the time, he was going to do some tidying around the store, mulling over a few of the summer scents and wondering if he'd rather smell like strawberry blossoms or wild rose for the rest of the week.

The candles made the air smell like vanilla and honeysuckle, and as she reviewed her plans for her next batch of lotions, that alone was enough to make her smile.

With a glance at both the clock, and then the floor, Ino wondered if she really ought to draw up that ad she and Sparkle had talked about. It'd give her something to do, she supposed, while waiting for Seivarden.

It was a nice, slow, boring day.

That feeling filled Kaidan with dread, a little bit, because it almost seemed as if thinking it would cause the island to do an abrupt about-face. It was drizzling off and on, though more on than off, but that didn't bother Kaidan much. Kanan was planning to go to the sparring sessions with him. He wasn't sure why that was causing anxiety, but it was, and the only thing to do about it was to run and burn off all the excess energy.

The park's paths were nice and paved and far less slick than anything near the shore would be, so he hit those and began doing laps at speed, broken by laps of lighter jogging.

He tried to figure out the disquiet, but everything was a nightmare muddle of everything and nothing all at once. He had friends here. He was allowed to have friends here. His friends back home would be happy he had friends here. Why was his brain being so stupid? He didn't know, so he ran.

Ino had sent an island-wide text to the beach: Firework party at the beach tonight!

She and Reno hadn't really had to do much past that. It wasn't a birthday party, or a surprise party, and the beach and the fireworks would be more than enough decoration for a spur of the moment thing like this.

There was pizza (of all kinds), chips, soda, and Reno'd been good to his word for grabbing a few cases of beer and coolers. She'd brought a couple of blankets and lawn chairs down to the beach for people who didn't think ahead to bring their own.

Groovy Tunes had been cheerfully ransacked (she'd left Jono a sticky note asking permission) and so music was blaring out over the beach, inviting people to come on down if her text message hadn't been enough for them.

Sparkle had given serious consideration to just not coming in to work today. Sure, he actually liked his job here and sure, there wasn't a goddamn jury that would convict him for buying some tea last week, in a legal transaction involving putting actual money that he owned into a cash register.

Besides, it looked like Iris did just fine with re-stocking on Friday. He had left some tea in the back, after all.

But he still had a nasty taste in his mouth after his last talk with Seivarden and that fucked-up radio broadcast she'd pulled on the weekend, and while Sparkle was usually one to knuckle down and dig his heels in to escalate while braced for more bullshit, it occurred to him that he didn't want to do anything that might somehow hurt Iris' business.

Even if 'angrily buying all the tea without using the employee discount' was not generally bad for business.

Maybe he was a little bit quick to close up behind him to skip off to the Wednesday school thing this week out of curiosity, though. For the fresh air and not at all because he felt weird about being here right now, honest. He'd be back afterwards. And maybe stay late to make up the time.

Ino kind of figured that, hey, why not she might as well show up at her own business for the second week in a row. Maybe it'd become a habit or something. At least until the first time she was called off on a Friday for a job on Gaia. That did take precedence over… pretty much everything.

In any case, it was a good thing she showed up, because they were entirely out of tea.

"What."

No, seriously, what?

She checked all of the canisters and… yes, entirely out of tea.

"Oh, come on," she grumbled, slapping a bell on the counter with a sign telling customers to ring it for service. "I haven't even had my tea yet this morning."

Then she gathered all the canisters up and stomped into the back room. She had some that she could refill at least partly, but most of them she was going to have to mix up from scratch because she didn't like keeping a huge supply on hand.

Stale tea was disgusting. Ino had standards.

"I hope we will enjoy this time, however tonight is for introductions: please let me know who you are, why you are taking this, and if you have any allergies or aversions to food. Then when we are done with that, I have a number of cookbooks here," he put a hand on a substantial moddable pile, "and access to the internet. It had taken some doing, including a run to the mainland, but mission accomplished. Kaidan closed down the C.I.C. early - most people had stayed indoors and avoided the heat during the day anyway - and hired a rickshaw to help tote things down to the beach.

Once there, he unloaded a couple large coolers, some paper shopping bags full of stuff, a pile of fabric - towels and beach blankets, mostly - a folding chair and a portable grill. He tipped the driver well and arranged for pickup later that night.

A large, colorful blanket was spread out and pinned at the corners with rocks to hold it down. The folding chair was opened, towels draped over the arms and beach blankets folded over the back. Grill unfolded, Kaidan staked the legs down so it wouldn't blow over, and circled the legs with rocks as added ballast.

Off to one side, he set the coolers. One was filled with ice, drinks, containers full of chilled fruit, some packages of ready-cooked brats. An assortment of other snacks was unceremoniously dumped from the paper bags onto a blanket next to the cooler. A disturbingly large container of glowstick necklaces was chucked onto the blanket as well.

The other cooler contained water-filled balloons...that were sitting on large, rectangular blocks of ice.

Okay, okay, Ino had maybe hired a minion and then been the absolute worst at actually opening the shop to the public. She'd been doing a lot of work behind the scenes, making sure there was always new, fresh stock and trying out new configurations and scents for autumn...

But actually opening the store? Okay, fine, she'd been slacking off on that. It was her least favourite part of owning her own shop.

Still, making an appearance now and then was probably a thing she should do, so Ino wandered in, got things set up, and then settled herself behind the counter with a pot of very minty tea and amused herself with trying out new scent combinations on paper.

It was beginning to feel a little bit to Kanan as though perhaps he ought to look into having a shed or something build at the park in order to store the small collection of swords he'd amassed for the sake of these Fridays over the past nine months or so. Which was all a very strange thought for him, considering nine months was generally about eight months longer than he tended to settle anywhere, he'd been on the island significantly longer than that already, and here he was giving some measure of consideration to the possibility of putting up a permanent structure somewhere.

Granted, he probably wouldn't. It was just that he was starting to look the part of a wandering weapons merchant, with a pair of bamboo swords over one shoulder, a blaster and a training remote on one hip, his temporary leaf blade at his other hip, and his lightsaber, actually assembled this week before he'd even arrived, clipped to his belt not far from that. Was there such a thing as accidental sword club overkill?

Sure, but at least each and every one of these weapons had a purpose for being here. Even if, for the time being, that purpose was, 'sit over there by the bench next to Stance.'

Running through his old forms last week as Caleb had actually jogged his memory on a few slightly more advanced patterns he hadn't been able to quite dredge up by muscle memory alone, and so, before it could fade again, he was stepping right into it, lightsaber ignited, throwing his all into brushing up on his Form III, taking a little personal thrill in filling in old blanks with the actual steps, instead of just throwing in whatever seemed like it might work just as well.

Okay, so, having basically everybody he knew on the island meet Caleb was that kind of intimidating that made his brain itch if he thought about it too hard, but the island had also handed him an advanced Soresu refresher course on a silver platter, so he couldn't be too mad.

Ino had… maybe put off calling Tseng about her impending marriage for a few weeks. Maybe more than a few weeks. It was at least a month by now. Not because she thought he'd be mad about it, but because after everything to do with Kueng and all… it had been weird, if only in her head.

But there was only so long she could put it off and the longer she put it off the less she wanted to tell him.

Which was why she was at the Perk. Largest hot chocolate they had in front of her, and an apple fritter to eat after she got this phone call over and done with.

Today might be a state holiday in the United States, but Hannibal was well aware that not all of the people on Fandom were aware of that, and he was quite content to hold class today anyway.

Particularly since "class" consisted of going somewhere lovely to eat.

He smiled at those who showed up as they waited for the portal.

"Good evening. Today is a holiday in the country we are nominally a part of. Apart from its own meaning, for many, it marks the beginning of summer, and as such, barbecuing - cooking outside over an open flame - is traditional. So, today we will be eating meat cooked over an open flame. But not in this country."

He waved them through the portal to a street in São Paolo. "Welcome to Vento Haragano, a Brazilian Churrascaria - roughly translated, a place for barbecue. Their specialty is meat - a wide variety of high-quality meat - and wine, also of a wide variety and high quality. You pay a flat price to dine; the sides are served as a buffet, so you may take what you like of them. The meat is brought around to the table on skewers, and you may tell the waiters how much you would like of each, and what sort of cut you would prefer. I encourage you all to experiment and determine what you like."

They walked in and were led to a small room to one side, where they would have somewhat more privacy than the main room. "The primary language here is Portuguese. I speak only a little of it, but many here will also speak English or Spanish. The maitre d' knows both, should you have questions."

He waved them to their seats.

Jono was just the slightest bit twitchy as he stepped into the music shop today. Not for any reasons he cared to discuss, no. He wasn't completely certain he'd be able to put a finger on it anyway. There wasn't anything particularly the matter, after all, except that the stereo seemed to have settled on a Smash Mouth fixation that came roughly two decades too late to be relevant.

He settled in behind the counter and just kind of tolerated it. If anybody came in, they'd find him just idly playing puzzle games on his phone.

He didn't have to be on top of his game all the time, damn it.

[OOC: Open! The OCD is hiding from the Smash Mouth today.]

Luke's Diner, Saturday

Miguel was almost afraid of what he might find this week when he got to work, but apparently it was nothing worse than the staff deciding that summer was Officially Here and the menu should reflect that. Which for once was just normal, summery foods.

It did mean the only coffee they had made already was iced, though.

Miguel headed for the coffee machine determinedly. "No. I still need coffee, and I'm probably not the only one."

"But it's hot out!" the busboy protested.

"It'll be hotter if I have to go to the Perk and get a cup just to dump over your head."

After that, they backed off, even if there was a bit of eye-rolling.

After bailing on Sparkle—she'd given him more than enough work to do, anyway—Ino had meandered the island aimlessly for a bit, too happy to settle and too unmotivated to find something to actually do.

The allure of fresh baked cookies from J,GoB proved to be too much of temptation to resist, which was how she'd wound up with a bag of them.

That she'd wound up in the park afterwards was mostly… just because she liked the park. It was green. Midgar was her home, and she loved it fiercely, but aside from a few small pockets of green (her rooms, Aerith's home, the church…) there just wasn't much healthy green to be had.

She flopped down on a bench and nibbled on her still warm cookies. Mmmm. Gooey. And chocolatey. The evening air was pleasant and the sun not yet down. She was going to enjoy just being for a bit.

Ino was well aware that all the food she'd eaten today had been junk. But that was part of the fun of being an adult: getting to make all the bad decisions.

No regrets.

Sparkle was rocking the aromatherapy candles today at work. Basically, he was kind of low-key freaking out over Atton, since the situation he'd described hadn't seemed... so great. At all. But if he just, like, wrote a candle off to burn while at work, he'd totally get a solid hit of soothing apple blossom right to the sinuses, and he'd have a nice calming little fire to stare at for a while.

This job was pretty okay. Look at him, all not going out into Baltimore and freaking out and burning something big down. Go team PYP.

There was some bubble bath with a similar scent to it, too. He was so taking that home to try out, dammit. It was possible that his entire paycheque from this place was basically just going to go into buying the merchandise.

It was days later and Sparkle could swear he still had the taste of chocolate milk and ketchup in his mouth. Which was an interesting combination when combined with all the myriad scents around the shop today. There were some nice spring scents out, motly with words like 'blossom' in the name, but Sparkle was coming to learn that 'apple blossom and pickle brine' was not a combination that one necessarily wanted to have filling one's senses.

And on top of it all, he'd brought some accessory pieces for his final project at school, which meant that he was alternating between popping TicTacs like his life depended on it and sewing between customers.

What a Wednesday.

All things must come to an end - and children needed to return home.

As always, the portal sprung into life somewhere after sundown, emanating a gentle purple, and a simple, inescapable call: come home.

Ino wasn't alone when she came in to open her store today. She was accompanied by a teenage boy who looked unfairly like both her and Tseng and who was far too chipper for what he'd been doing last night if radio was anything to go by.

She caught him eyeing the back room speculatively. "No."

Kueng laughed. "I didn't even say anything yet, Mom!"

"You didn't need to," Ino said dryly, as they set up shop. "But no, you may not pick a poison."

"But Dads--"

"Wouldn't want you to have them either," she said, knowing this was true. "Especially when you don't know near enough about them to use them responsibly."

Kueng leaned against the counter. "You could teach me."

The very way he said it, both hopeful and like it didn't matter at all, made her want to sigh.

"All right," Ino said, since how was she supposed to resist that? "I'll show you a few things."

Luke's, Sunday

There was a teenager standing next to Kanan behind the counter at Luke's today. A faintly bemused looking teenager, with green hair and ears that were faintly tinted the same, slurping at a chocolate milkshake and shooting the shit with the kitchen staff while occasionally giving Kanan a speculative glance, here and there.

Kanan was managing to play it cool. He hadn't freaked out over Anan saying weird things about his eyes last year, he was absolutely not going to freak out over Jacen and what he had to say this year.

Nope. Not freaking out.

The specials board was, perhaps, predictable.

Today's Specials:
Pancakes! With any toppings you like!

It seemed fitting for a day like today, all things considered.

You know. Sunday.

The weather was pleasant and Dark Nation was antsy, which had led to Rufus leaving his work and taking his dog out for a long run around the island and then, since Dark Nation had still been energetic, Rufus had found himself on the beach, throwing a Frisbee for Dark Nation to race after like a maniac as the waves lapped at the shore.

The pollen still wasn't bothering him. Too bad, island.

While Dark Nation was chasing the Frisbee, Rufus sent off a couple of texts.

A text from Rufus of all people was likely not what Zack was expecting while out on holidays.

Fair. An associate and I are doing something exceedingly hazardous this weekend. Might I borrow a summons or two?

That was about as polite as Rufus ever got. Be impressed, Zack. Rufus had asked.

The other was much more his usual speed, and to his babysitter: I’m invading a hostile world this weekend to steal a computer.

Then he had to wrestle the Frisbee away from Dark Nation to toss it again.

"Um."

When Zack came in to the shelter this morning, it looked as though the vet on staff had already taken steps to try to nip in the bud some of the ill-advised Easter animal adoptions that had led to them having to put an entire chicken enclosure up on the roof. The usual puppy pen had been repurposed, and several fully grown chickens were pecking and scratching away at some hay that the vet had thrown down right onto the floor.

There was a sign on the pen. Do You Want To Keep These?

And then, beside the pen, one of the larger tanks was set up with a heating lamp to keep the handful of baby chicks within nice and cozy. The sign on the tank? Because That's What These Grow Up Into.

And then, off to the side, another sign standing there on its own. And No, You Can't Have A Rabbit Until NEXT Week.

Which was all fine and good, but what was Zack supposed to do about puppy playtime today?

... If anybody came to Furnado today, Zack would be outside with a good half dozen puppies at a time, taking advantage of Girl's shephering instincts to keep them all from wandering into the road while they got their daily exercise. If you wanted to see a good time, come and witness puppies' first snow.

The arrival of spring meant that all of her wintry scents were on steep discount and her stock had been redone to evoke warmer, funner weather.

(Ino was maybe a bit biased against the cold. A bit. Or a lot.)

Today the shop was smelling sweetly of lilacs as Ino worked over formulations at the front desk.

Spring was nice and all, but summer was even more fun, and she wanted to get started on what she was going to offer then.

Sparkle could be going to China right now. Right now. But instead he was being a responsible part-time college student, and staying behind for the sake of finishing up projects and actually attending his class on Wednesday.

So, naturally, he was kind of sulking today at the shop. Why wouldn't he? Sure, the idea of actually being a chaperone to a bunch of teenagers on a school trip abroad didn't super appeal to him, but it sure beat sticking around here, doing battle with faux fur.

At least his day picked up a little around noon when he realized he'd gotten in a shipment of cute raincoats sometime during the week and they needed to he put out on display. Flowers! Cute fruit patterns! Foxes and pandas and frogs! Yes!

It was no China, but it was still delightful.

Ino supposed that she should probably be vaguely concerned that Zack and mini-Rufus had been off island since Saturday doing something in mini-Rufus' Wutai, but she wasn't really. Zack was a big boy and could take care of himself in a warzone.

Actually, she was kind of relieved he was gone. He needed something like this.

"But I'm still not entirely sure why I decided to liberate you from the pet store," Ino said to Girl, leaning over the counter to look at Zack's dog. "They'd have taken care of you there. I don't even like dogs."

Girl wagged her tail. She clearly didn't believe Ino.

For that matter, Ino didn't really believe herself.

Ino raised her eyebrows at radio.

Well, Zack could be getting the books for work, she supposed, as she swept her shop clean. But it was more likely that he was considering Girl and bringing her home properly.

She didn't let it bother her. He'd tell her when he was ready to talk about it--he'd said he would.

There were more important things to worry about in any case.

It was a nice night, if you asked Zack. The weather was crisp and cool with just a hint of snow, which didn't bother him any. He'd wandered bare-armed through Modeo, after all. This was just... brisk. And sparkly. He wans't sure if the tinsel washing ashore was meant to be here, but in the evening light, it was, if nothing else, pretty.

He turned a little grin toward Ino.

"After this we can go for hot chocolate," he promised. "My treat."
