Marshall had made sure the place was extra clean tonight and that the zombies were extra taped up because of the karaoke contest tonight. He was glad to help the students out but he was a bit pouty. He didn't want to work. He wanted to sing! Luckily Chuck walked in just in time.

"Hey Barney Jr," Marshall said, waving Chuck over. "I've got a favor to ask."

Chuck looked Marshall over. "There's not enough money in the world."

"What? Ew. I don't even want to know what you mean by that," Marshall said, making a face. "Can you tend bar? There's a karaoke contest in here tonight and I want to to watch. Can you tend bar?"

Chuck opened his mouth to say no but found himself getting pushed over towards the bar.

"Great, thanks, don't kill anybody," Marshall said quickly before heading over towards the stage.

Chuck bitchfaced.

As if having been up earlier than usual putting up posters for the karaoke contest tomorrow wasn't enough, Chad came into the store to discover that one of the pipes was leaking.

And it wasn't just a normal leak. Oh, no. It was leaking hot cocoa, which was not only going to be pretty bad for the floor, but it meant Prince Oscar Pedro was trying to lick it up as Chad was trying to fix it, which meant that he was going to have a very, very, very sick cat on his hands later.

Chad? Was not going to call this one of his best days, not by a long shot.

Even though Hurley had said they were fine last night, Chad was still going around the store, with a toolbelt around his waist (well, hanging around his hips; it was more comfortable), checking all the speakers to make sure they were working.

Finding that everything was in order, he then worked on seeing if they could go to eleven.

It seemed like the managerial thing to do.

Chad felt glad that there didn't seem to be anything going on today that would have had him closing the shop early; he felt like he'd been doing his position as manager a disservice by skipping out so much, and made up for it by working particularly hard today.

Which pretty much meant moving things around a lot.

To be completely honest, Chad was really surprised to find that he still seemed to be cleaning up drool from Nana after Friday.

He didn't mind too much, though; it gave him something to do and Nana seemed to have gotten the worst of it in sections that no one seemed to go to anyway.

It was rare that Chad was alone when he opened the store; he almost always had Prince Oscar Pedro with him. This time, though, he had Prince Oscar Pedro and a much, much larger pet with him, too. No, not Teddy's freakishly large cat, but Jeff's freakishly large dog. Chad had jumped at the chance to take care of Nana over the weekend while he and Turtle went away to that wedding, and now, he was attempting to educate the dog on the punk movement of the late seventies. He would totally buy that Nana was a punk rocker.

Of course, this resulted mostly in Chad talking away to the dog and the dog drooling all over an annoyed Prince Oscar Pedro, but Chad didn't seem to notice.

Chad was clearly in the middle of a very productive day at work, if you couldn't tell by the stack of music and fashion magazines he was making steady progress through at the counter.

He might not have thought so at the time, but working the store with Orihime had been a lot of fun for Chad, making it a little bittersweet to have the place so quiet and calm and chill today.

The very smooth jazz playing from the speakers probably only highlighted the feel, but it felt nice. It had been a good weekend.

Chad knew he'd be opening the store late because of the picnic, and it turns out that he was glad he did, because otherwise, he wouldn't have had a friend to help him at the store today.

"Sugoi, Sado-kun!" Orihime beamed brightly, clutching poor Prince Oscar Pedro to her nearly suffocating breaths, "this is the place where you work? It's so big! And you're going to let me help you today?"

"Of course."

"Ooh, ooh! Can I pick the music?"

"Uhh...sure."

This meant there was no way of predicting what the heck Orihime would be putting into the CD player, but it would be...well, it was sure to be an adventure, that was sure.

"You can help me organize the shelves, too, Inoue-san," he offered, knowing full well he should do something to keep Orihime occupied, if even only for Prince Oscar Pedro's sake.

"Hai!"

By some act of Fandom, the weather was behaving itself. Any clouds or rain the weather forecasters had blathered about on the news seemed to have skipped over the entirety of Fandom Island. It was a perfect afternoon in October, just the right temperature in which to spend the day outside with pleasant company. Or even relatives.

A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a bright banner announcing the start of a hopefully calm weekend:

Now that Chad knew that Teddy wasn't dead, he could actually focus on going to work and doing worklike things.

Teddy was practically bouncing as they had walked to the comic book store. There was one on the island now! This was just so damn cool.

...

Yes, cool.

"I'm going to buy the newest trade paperback of Ratman," Teddy said gleefully, darting off into that section of the store. It even smelled like a good comic book store.

The store was opened a few hours later than usual, due to Chad being busy manning his club booth earlier, but it still opened in due time, and Chad, feeling extremely musical from earlier, settled in with his guitar to pass the time into the evening and looking forward to that sushi delivery a certain someone had mentioned.

Mmm. Sushi. And that wasn't even thinking of the dirty connotations the food now had.

Something didn't feel right around the store as Chad came in to open after his earlier class. It was just off, and he couldn't tell why for the longest time until he had to do a double-check passing a calender.

And then he realized it was the same problem with any calender in the store; somehow, they'd all been turned over to October already.

Chad grunted, and steadily set about making that right.

Chad was definitely willing to help cover for Hurley's shift today, although his mood seemed a little on the somber, quiet (well, quieter side) today as he organized some shelves and went through some ordering forms. Everything that had had discussed with Ichigo was still settling heavily in his mind, but in the way that it just stuck to you and plagued you and you couldn't think of anything else to do with it.

So far, today had the feel of a day that was completely and totally normal. Nothing notable happened when Chad got up and crawled out of bed to get ready and have breakfast. Nothing weird was going on with Prince Oscar Pedro, who was mostly in a napping mood. It was feeling very chill, and Chad was very a-okay with that. True, Chad was always quiet, but this was a different kind of quiet, and even Prince Oscar Pedro seemed to notice it, following suit and not running around the store today so much as wandering around and taking a few naps, but always making sure to circle around to Chad and give a little reassuring rub against his leg.

Hurley's worry when he unlocked Groovy Tunes was only dwarfed by his confusion. It was his first day, so he was supposed to be supervised and taught stuff. By Chad.

And yet, no Chad in sight.

After a few minutes, Hurley found the light switches and etcetera, and the place at least looked open.

Even if the person behind the counter had no clue what he was doing. Lucky he had register experience from Mr. Cluck's over the summer.

"Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun the Third," Chad grunted, trying not to sound too upset as he reprimanded the cat. "Would you leave those poor skunks alone already?"

A scratchy meow emerged from a pile of black and white fur, a Prince Oscar Pedro buried underneath a pile of overly affectionate skunks who were having a giggling debate over just how much like sandpaper the hairless cat's skin was or was not like. He really wanted to know where Chad was getting the idea that it was he who needed to leave the skunks alone and not the other way around.

Eventually, he'd manage to escape them, narrowly missing getting sprayed as he darted quickly for shelter under the shelves, but the skunks stumbled after him. "Come ba'ack, kitty!" the leader of the skunk crew hiccupped, and the others giggled. "We wanna find you some fuuuuur!"

Chad shook his head slightly; even if the skunks were cute, he had to admit to feeling glad to have had plenty of coffee this morning.

Chad really didn't know what to think about the fuzzy little balls that were rolling around Fandom; they were a bit different, but, at the same time, it wasn't anything too alarming. Plus, they seemed to keep Prince Oscar Pedro pretty busy (he could only imagine what Teddy was going through with Sir Galliano right now), so he was cool. Alice was having a very nice day, thank you very much. She'd had a lovely date on the beach, and her big brother had been very sweet on radio. Hmmm. She'd have to talk to him, then. Reassure him that she was quite all right, but that he was perfectly welcome to be protective any time he liked. Such things were a big brother's prerogative.

For herself, she was going to skip to the end of her alphabetical study and select something from the Zs. It was more ... relaxed and meditative than her usual, but she found the open spaces nice to climb into. She approved.

Chad usually opened the shop a little later on Mondays since he had class and everything, but today he was even later than usual.

There was a whole debacle with Prince Oscar Pedro and a poorly attended bar of chocolate.

Today was 08/08/08. Chad thought that was pretty cool.

But not as cool as the fact that he'd gotten a call earlier that day from the agency that booked him for that one ad saying that they'd like him to come shoot another one next week. He'd have to skip his workshops, but that didn't concern him as much as skipping work, but, he figured it would be okay. He was management, after all.

It was about halfway through the evening, thanks to flipping through a magazine and seeing an advertisement that featured a birthday party scene where things clicked in Chad's head and he grunted, muttering to no one in particular except maybe the cat, "That's why he looked familiar."

Today seemed the sort of day, as he came in to open the store a little late after his class, where Chad realized things. Things like, hey, we've moved again. Hey, there's a lot of weird birds around. Hey, Danny Aiello was still alive and putting out music.

The most prominent thing he noticed, though, he noticed when playing with Prince Oscar Pedro in his downtime. His little kitten wasn't really so little or a kitten anymore; he'd really grown up quite a bit since he got him. So Chad scratched behind Prince Oscar Pedro's ears and told him, "Since you're big now, you have to make sure to be a good big brother to whatever pet Teddy gets, okay?"

There was purring. Chad figured that was as good of a yes as anything else.

Even though Chad had work today, he still wasn't sure he could bring himself to wear those shirts in his drawer that remained piratical after yesterday. This caused a little bit of a debate in his head, because he wasn't sure he he could do the shirtless thing at work. The whole no shirt, no shoes, no service bit. But he had shoes. Once upon a time, there was a Kaylee Frye who worked at Groovy Tunes. Chad remembered her. But this was different, because this was not only a different Kaylee Frye, but it was also Chad, but there was still a full-circle sort of feeling to it.

And that totally made sense, really. It did in Chad's head, anyway, which was currently in the skull of a much smaller and arguably cuter person.

It was interesting, coming in to open the store after the mind-swap. He actually had to carry Prince Oscar Pedro (who didn't care who was carrying him, as long as they pet him, it seemed) and once he got there and tried to do some things, he found himself remarking, in his temporary adorable girly voice, "....I can't reach!"

Chad settled behind the counter, listening to music, because he wanted to know if music sounded different when you were in a different body, but he didn't plan on staying the whole way through til midnight. He figured being in a different body was good reason to skip work for that party.

After his afternoon workshop, Chad came in to open Groovy Tunes a little late, but he didn't really think anyone would notice. He took a moment to clean up a bit, straightening the magazine racks and a few of the CD shelves, made sure the Now Hiring sign was firmly in place in the window, and then settled behind the counter.

This was exceptionally nice because Prince Oscar Pedro kept returning to Chad, dragging little boxes of chocolate coins over after some wandering through the store. Chad nibbled on them decorously, though, not too much, because he didn't want to have Prince Oscar Pedro feel too bad. He was doing all the hard work in finding them, after all, only to be deprived of eating them because Chad knew all too well what chocolate did to that cat's stomach.

Chad had the weird urge to pick up a Squishy today on the way to opening the store, so he did, and then kicked back to relax behind the counter and strum his guitar a little, expecting another slow Friday night, especially with that party going on, or whatever, he thought he saw some flyers for something like that. If Chad was in a good mood today (which he was), it didn't really show (because he's Chad). But, really, there was only one thing that could have made his day better and that would have been to finally see that the ad he shot was running in a magazine. As he idly waited for the hours of the workday to tick away, he flipped through a few and, sure enough, there it was. And sure enough, there he was, although, in the scope of the ad as a whole, Chad was noticeable mainly because he was Chad, but he was in the background of all of it, barely part of the main ad itself, but he was there and he found it, and this added to the events of weekend made this Monday possibly the best Monday ever.

He was in an ad. Sure, you had to search a little bit to find him, but there he was! It was...so cool.

Prince Oscar Pedro got sick of hearing Chad talking about it in Japanese after a half hour, though.

Prince Oscar Pedro was making a downright ruckus in the store toady, meowing is naked little head off. Chad thought at first it was because the cat was cold (he still hadn't found out what happened to his sweater, and was still in the process of getting another one), but then he realized that it had more to do with the small American flag in the cat's mouth. This confused Chad on several levels. Most importantly was where the hell Prince Oscar Pedro got that flag in the first place. But the more presiding one was the fact that it made no sense. //"We're not American, Neko-kun,"// Chad tried to explain, in Japanese, as if to emphasize the point. He would have done Spanish, but Prince Oscar Pedro always responded better to Japanese. //"Why would we celebrate an American holiday?"//

But Prince Oscar Pedro would not be appeased until Chad, reluctantly and grunting, had a flag in his hand too and, on occasion, gave it a little wave.

He loved his kitten, honestly. But, sometimes, he really just did not understand him.

It turned out that Teyla wasn't feeling too well today, so Chad, being a responsible managerial type person, agreed to come in and work for her. It was nice to think that he was doing it merely because it was the thing he should do and without the added fact of needing the money for a chance. It was going to be a very busy day at Groovy Tunes for Chad today. Beside him on the counter was a large stack of seemingly random magazines, ones that he would be flipping through in between customers and restocking to see if that ad was running yet.

Very important work, of course.

That wasn't going very well, since Chad found himself often distracted by thinks like an article on digital music engineering or Britney Spears' latest trainwreck caper.

Especially that last one. He was mostly just trying to figure out exactly what the story there was because so many magazines seemed to report it differently.
